Prothean.

Thats right. I said Prothean. Just think about it, wouldn't it be awesomely epic if in ME3 Shep finds an abandoned prothean ruin or something and EDI chimes in "Hey shep whats that cold tube over there with all dem lights?"

and just like that (adding in all the stuff Bioware does to make a story more epic than my two sentences of course) you have a Prothean squad mate that wants revenge on the machine devils that wiped out his entire race, not to mention the fact that talking to him ( or her, or it...whatever...dont really know how Protheans do sexes) would be so frigin interesting that it would make talking to Legion look like asking Anderson how he's been for the last two years.

Not to mention that it could open up all sorts of interesting story options to fight the reapers, places to go that only the prothean would know about, etc etc.

LOL not to mention going to Liara with the Prothean..."Hey Liara, remember all those years you spent wondering everything about Protheans? Well...meet Bob! *Liara faints*  :P

(Bob of course is just to say a name, not that I think they should call him that...unless his name is something ridiculously long with B.O.B. as initials...then it could potentially be really funny but also eventually endearing as far as squad bromance lol)

Edit: I really hope they think about doing something like this before they think about giving us another human squad mate like "big ben sniper"

Also, I hope that if they do give us new squad mates in ME3, theres only one or two, cuz I dont want a repeat of ME2 where the main plot was a bunch of well done sidequests to find a team.

indeed

The idea's been put up before, and to be honest, not many people like it.

The problem is lore-wise, it would be a little too forced. As described from Vigil during the Ilos mission, the only protheans who weren't genetically re-designed were locked in sleeping pods until they essentially had the plugs pulled, one-by-one. It would have potential, but I don't know, it's tough to say.

Please no. It wouldn't make any kind of sense from any lore POV I can think of.

These Prothean statues always looked kinda Husk-ized to me.  I wonder if that's what they really looked like normally, or if that's just a representation of them after initial indoctrination (INITIAL, as in not genetically altered Collectors obviously)

ah yeah, I guess I kinda forgot about the whole "making sense with the story" thing and how Vigil says that no protheans were left...but still if they wanted to Im sure they could make it work...

I'd like a Prothean in team... if fact I've said this in other topics too. But he/she should be really, really well introduced and characterized to work well. I mean... there's already Thane who has emo tendencies... I can't imagine how depressing would be having a prothean aboard whining all the time 'cause he's the last of his kind, and that he preferred to die with his civilitazion and so.

This has been posted already. It would really kill the immersion imo.

If they make it work, I don't see why not. Although the only person the squad mate would be able to speak to is shepard since he has the cypher. T_T

could be done within lore, say it was the only prothean in stasis (or whatever they called it) and it had a massive energy sorce. Would make for an awsome squad mate and some interesting dialog.

Not too hip on a Prothean squadmate personally. They've been extinct for 50,000 years, I can handle a rare species making an appearance every now and again, but reviving an extinct species goes a little beyond what I'd consider a believable character.

Now, had we been able to salvage some of Vigil's programming and integrate him into an AI like EDI in some fashion, I'd have been all for that.

I dont think its that epic idea.
Something like that was already mentioned by other people around the forums as a possibility, because the games have been Protheans this, Protheans that.
I expect him to be LI for female character, because he is tragic, lonely and stuff. Who knows? Maybe he is even assassin. Image IPB

I  always figured that statues had degraded and deformed over time.  Heck, I  doubt the Prothians even look much like the collectors and that's simply a result of Reaper gene manipulation.

In short, we still don't really know what the Prothians looked like.

Oh bloody hell, how many times has this suggestion been posted before? OP I am sure you are not alone in wanting a Prothean squadmate as evident by the millions of posters before you who posted the exact same thing. I personally think it is a stupid idea and would much rather Bioware give us a keeper squadmate (and love interest).

Ah yes "protheans" the ancient race that was wiped out by sentient machines, we have dismissed that claim

A little too hard to do it right, unless you get relativity involved. Like he would have to have been in stasis orbiting a black hole at just the right distance so that time dilation would kick in but there was no risk of his orbit decaying and him getting squished down to a quark.

Buuuut since ME has biotics and FTL, hard physics is out of the question. So no.

The protheans have been extinct for 50,000 years... yet you just happen to find one? Right. On the ship as well is a Liopleurodon, a Unicorn, three cro-magnons dressed in Dapper suits and Elivs, JFK and Amelia Earhart all playing poker on a table made out of the bones of the Loch Ness Monster. You then find out that the moon is, in fact, made out of cheese.

There's more chance of a volus squadmate then a prothean squadmate...(not that I wouldn't love Biotic God in my dream team)

Personally I wouldn't care if BioWare made this work lore-wise or not. I hadn't much thought about a Prothean squadmate, but the OP's description actually made me excited for one! We'll see what BioWare does, but I do think a Prothean squaddie would be pretty awesome. And tall - if those seated figures on Ilos were to stand up, they'd be giants. Don't know how we'd fit him/her/it on the Normandy. Maybe in the cargo bay where there's lots of room.

Unless you find one on Ilos in isolated stasis, I'm not gonna call it.

Or an unaltered Prothean/Collector on some Collector ship that makes experiments, now I'm just rambling.
