I'm all for new toys to play with in the sequel. But should it pass that you can have some of the weapons from ME2 carry over to ME3, which ones would you like?

For me, it'd be in no particular order:

Assault Rifles

M-96 Mattock - Not an assault rifle, and not a sniple rifle either. But who cares? It kicks ass! Can reduce armored enemies to hamburger faster than any automatic weapon in the game.

Shotguns

M22 Eviscerator - The best shotgun in the game that isn't the Claymore. More damaging than the Katana or Geth Plasma shotgun and has some decent range too. In fact I'd like this to be the default shotgun.

Geth Plasma Shotgun - A shotgun's kick with an assault rifles range? Why not?

Sniper Rifles

M-97 Viper - Semi auto goodness from long range. The best sniper for a Soldier bar none.

Submachine Guns

M-12 Locust - Accurate as hell and packs a hell of a punch. My only wish is that they up the ammo count for firing.

Pistols

M-5 Phalanx - Some people hate the laser sight. Not me. It helps a great deal in placing shots, especially for a gun this powerful.

Heavy Weapons

Arc Projector - The only Heavy weapon I've used extensively. A godsend against shielded enemies and synthetics.

Collector Particle Beam - For baddies with Barriers and Armor, this is the way to go. Longest range for a heavy too.

All I want is an OSOKing shotgun like the Claymore.

I actually hope they make up some nice weapon branches with some nice things to choose and modify:

Battlerifles (Mattock)

Assault Rifles (Avenger/Vindicator)

Light Machineguns (Revenant)

Semi-Automatic Shotguns (Scimitar)

Pump Action Shotguns (Katana/Eviscerator)

Heavy Shotguns (Claymore)

Precision Rifles without Scope (Semiautomatic or burst-fire weapons with great accuracy and adequat zoom in, but without the scope)

True Precision Rifles (Scope and and such, with weapons varying from Mantis over Viper onto Incisor)

Anti-Material Rifles (Widow for everyone!)

Heavy Gunnery (tripod based weaponry (with or without armorplate), has to get set up, but then rains Heavy Metal all over the place in various forms (does not count as Heavy Weapon for Soldiers (possibly Engineer too/available for other classes as Heavy Weapon)

Light Pistols (large clip-size, faster RoF, lower damage per shot output)

Heavy Pistols (you got the jist of it, didn't you)

SMG (One-Handed and Two-Handed versions)

Each class has multiple weapon proficiencies, but can only take four guns onto a mission. Greater number of weapon types + bigger pool of weapons to choose from each branch makes weapons a tactical choice: Get the tripod mounted Heavy Machinegun to deal with hordes of Melee enemies or pack more longrange weaponry to deal with the sure to come firefights? Want to set up the trypod weapon in the battlefield to deal surpressive fire and risk the exposure, or you want to play safe and pick them off one by one? Your choice!

Also a way to shorten the reload time on xbox for Claymore.

All of them. Just tweak some to balance the selection out.

I like well balanced weapons. The Mattock is game breaking on Soldier and overpowered on all other classes, so I would rather not have it return. They claimed it was balanced by a lack of ammo, but it picks up waaay too much ammo per thermal clip to make that a serious limitation. The GPS is also overpowered.

I really like weapons that require you to control your rate of fire to retain accuracy. The Tempest is great in this respect because you actually have to control your bursts in order to be effective at medium range or more. The Locust is just way too accurate without any need for control.

I liked the Locust a lot and also hope to see the Phalanx again. Other than that I am fine with any single shot sniper rifle with decent damage.

I am bit torn for the Collector beam, though: I used it a lot, but it seemed a bit overpowered.

Bioware told us that those weapons were introduced to break the weapon balance. Were you expecting something different?

All of them but balance them out and add a few more. The exception might be the heavy weapons, I think it might be worth looking at them a little more, most of them are a little bit lackluster when compared to upgraded normal weapons. Possibly look at buffing those weapons throughout the game.

I don't doubt that you can do it on xbox, but the feature/exploit/trick was not made with the xbox controller in mind.  Without the exploit the claymore is not the best shotgun for xbox, imo.  I just want them to design a method that does not require you to have two right thumbs to use effectively.

I'd just like to be able to assign heavy weapons or something like a Revenant to squad members if they are kept at all. So like give Zaaed (assuming any of the ME2 characters return) a Revenant, or Grunt a heavy wep of some sort (Tali the Arc Projector maybe?). I'd be fine with keeping only the Avenger/Lancer and Vindicator assault rifles (so not the Mattock) if they gave them selective fire and made the Avenger upgradable to make it actually worth keeping. I kinda prefered ME1 in that respect in that the modular aspects of upgrades and ammo types meant you could mix n match more.

The heavy weapons don't really find much use for me. I rarely ever use them, and as I can't give them to a weaker squadmate, they don't get taken out much. Strikes me that the whole heavy weapon element is made pointless when the player and NPCs have powers/talents that not only serve in that regard, but are meant to be able to do that, just in case the player hasn't got the right heavy wep with them and so that each big boss fight is not simply a matter of using the same big gun on every playthrough.

I'm willing to trade the Heavy Weapons for an SMG, I like the Locust and the Shuriken has grown on me. Then with the Soldier it looks too busy on the back and the Sniper Rifles overlap with them anyways.

Then carry a Battle Rifle of some sort, the Vindicator is fine, but I really like the Mattock. The other weapons are fine where they are on Shep and I'd go with the Phalanx for sure, the shotties are hard to choose from, I'd like to see them all back.

I'm torn between the Viper and Widow, I've got more experience with the Viper, but the Widow is the long range ace in the hole.

I'd also prefer having the SMG strapped to my left hip then share the space on my right thigh with the pistols, but that's just me.

Edit: didn't think through enough on where to carry the weapons on Shep :pinched:

I want every single one to be imported. It'd be a nice bonus to anyone who played the second one all the way through.

Of course I want new ones to be added as well. Come on Bioware let's have a full on arsenal.

I want all of them back, with the broken ones re-balanced to work more reasonably (eg: incisor and its wacky ammo count; CAR and its crappy dps, etc.)

Of course I'd also like new stuff... the sky's the limit, really, with all the stuff available from ME1. They could just re-invent a few more of the ME1 weapons for all I care.

I actually got great use out of the CAR on insanity, before the Mattock was avaliable. This was probably due to its unique accuracy code for constant accuracy, and its base DPS is only slightly off the Avenger's (145 vs. 153), but it misses far less than the revy or avenger.

OT:
I want to return:
Revenant
Mattock
Viper
Evi
Phalanx

My pipe dream:
a full auto assault rifle that has dps somewhere between the mattock and the avenger

Avenger. The iconic weapon of the ME universe. Just please don't make it crap this time.

Edit: THe return of Spectre weapons would be cool too. Although perhaps with a reimagined design rather than different colours like in ME1.

This. There's technically already such a weapons in the game and it goes by the name of Locust.... but I'd like a two-handed version :P

To be honest, I would have preferred if they'd released the Mattock with half the damage per shot, twice the clip and reserve and gave it a full-auto setting. That would have at least given a good compromise between battle rifles and machine guns while still offering an upgrade to the Avenger. In it's current form it renders all other assault rifles - regardless of their characteristics - obsolete.

I wouldn't mind all the current weapons to return. They just need to rebalance them (Avenger the most) and make sure there is no "better" weapon.

Mostly the Widow. Though I think there should be a "fists-only" option/'weapon" where the trigger is just throwing haymakers. It'd be kinda like a "slaps only" game mode in Goldeneye, except Shepard takes out Reapers with it.
