I liked to romance Tali more than any other. It felt natural and was one of the few romances that took two games to build upon.
So did Ashley/Kaidan and Liara

tali.
why? shep and tali have known eachother since the first game,
and the romance just feels better. nothing is rushed and the romance has a good build up to it, and doen't have a sudden vibe to it like some of the other romances do.
with that being said, miranda's romance is the worst imo.
Miranda:"you saved my sister. let's have sex in the engine room."
Shep: "okay."
seems pretty quick, maybe it's just me.
don't hate me miranda lovers.

I agree that Jacob's was just terrible.

Between Liara and Tali..I'd have to go with Tali. If it wasn't for LOTSB, I still would have been meh about her romance. It felt rushed in ME1. Tali has been through a lot and still manages to be adorkable.
My favorites romances are Garrus and Jack however.

Liara, on the other hand, is much more mature and can stand on her own.
But I prefer Miri the most.

Tali really was a crush. Also, she got very mad when she heard you were with Cerberus. She didn't even listen to learn why.
she learned why, to destroy the collectors and because cerberus were the only onbes willing to help. plus she didn't do a Kaiden or Ashley,
Plus i was torn by not having Tali for ME1 and went with Liara. But i like Tali more and Liara isn't far behind, i played the game with seperate saves for both of them. Tali's isn't rushed, while Liara seems to have Shep pushing her slightly in ME1. I didn't the change of her voice from ME1 to ME2, but i got used to it now.

I forgot to mention, if you ever try to ask the forum on whether to romance someone which includes Tali, the pathetic talimancers will ALWAYS choose Tali since they can't accept anyone else's opinions. They don't realize that she WASN'T supposed to be a LI in the first place and Bioware only made her one to appease the pathetic Talimancers and trust me, that fact shows quite a bit throughout her romance. I actually liked Tali in the first game, but now it's all "She always liked you", "You would make a cute couple", "Tali wants you" "Did you know that Tali likes you?" etc. and that just irritates me since they ruined a completely great character into some thing that just wants to sleep with you and shows no actual redeeming qualities other than the sex, which isn't that great in the first place. Trust me when I say that her romance is just plain creepy as she has an unhealthy adoration of you that borders on slightly obsessive. Her LotSB dossier doesn't do that any justice and she acts too young for Shepherd or anyone really. I just wish that they kept her like she was in ME1 and just kept her as that awesome engineer who helps out and ISN'T a LI for no reason. Just my thoughts but choose Liara since her romance isn't rushed and the LotSB ending really gives off a sense of good luck and prosperity for the future, which doesn't happen with ANY of the other LI. Liara is and always will be my Shepherd's one true LI:wub:
I also prefer Liara

Liara got me with LOTSB, and she has the best chance to be in ME 3 compared to the other LIs
I was actually very disappointed with how she behaved towards her romance from ME1, but LotSB made it a lot better.

I agree that Tali really fits more as a friend than an LI. However, I kind of forgot about her in ME1. It was a little sad.

I'd romance a Thresher Maw before Tali.

Tali all the way, the fact that through everything she has not change speaks volumes of her mental fortitude, charisma and overall tenacity. Now dont get me wrong I am not trying to imply Liara is weak for having change but... it does take a certain mentality to still be yourself after hardship.
Like a poem I like says "if you can endure hardship and not let hardship change you, yet learn from it and make it your own, you are a rare one"

EDIT: Seriously, though, attraction does not care for species. It's about simpler things, like shapes and emotional attachments. And phermones/scent, but that obviously doesn't apply for fictional characters.

It's far more pleasant to see LI on major role than have a cameo (trust to Kaidan's fangirl in this question), so assuming all the other variables are equal - Liara.

Tali, on the other hand, is a 14 year old with a t-shirt Team Shepard. Definitely my least favorite ME2 romance, though I still say every ME2 female LI >>>> every ME1 female LI

Let's face it - Liara can't die during two games already, plus she's a Shadow Broker. Tali can be not recruited in ME2 and even dead. So it's likely that Liara will have major role and many dialogues in ME3 while Tali... her role is still questionable.

The fate of Tali is more variable, ok... but how this have an effect on her romance in ME2? For ME3 we'll see... but up to now I find her romance done better... and I usually romance Liara in ME1, so it's not like I hate her or so, they're far from the others my two favourite female characters of ME.

Do you prefer the Liara romance or the Tali romance, and why?
Also, what would you consider to be the worst romance?
Liara, hands down. Liara was the LI for four of my six Shepards [Devon, Simone, Ethan, Martín] in the first game, and two of them stayed loyal to her in the second game. My other two Shepards [Leah, Ashley] romanced Kaidan, and remained loyal to him in the second game. For the most part, ME1 romances > ME2 romances. Of the two Shepards that didn't remain loyal to Liara or Kaidan in the second game [Ethan, Martín], one went for Miranda, and one went for Jack.
I did the Tali romance with a throwaway "douchebag" Shepard, and I'm glad I didn't commit any of my canon Shepards to it. SO juvenile. I never liked Tali Exposition to begin with, and her constant need to be rescued got even older in ME2 than it was in ME1. She can't even keep a squad of soldiers under control. Seriously, I just wanted a "wow, really?" dialog option on Freedom's Progress to let Tali know that she SUCKS as a leader. And yeah, Haestrom wasn't exactly a resounding success either. I wonder how the geth spotted them in the first place. With their hacking expertise, Tali should have been able to mask her team's presence there, especially with the star providing so much radiation to help scramble sensors and whatnot.
Liara, on the other hand, is extremely independent and capable, recovering Shepard's body and keeping it out of the hands of the Shadow Broker, and then dedicating herself to taking down the Shadow Broker, and becoming a power player on Illium in the process. With Shepard's help, she was able to rescue Feron, and in the process take over the Shadow Broker's vast network of intelligence operatives. Tali just can't compete with that. Liara has depth and character, Tali has lovely lady lumps and an unappealing fawning nature toward Shepard. I choose depth and character.

However, I will say that I think Ashley and Miranda are the two best "matches" for a male Shepard. Liara would probably be third.
