Please, I know that someone has already told me but I can't find the topic. Can you please tell me the link to download a hack from the vault able to improve the camera mode while playing? It's impossible to use that thing!!!!
I need a better camera mod in game!

That sounds interesting. Please, tell me, setting the variable "Camera Mode = 3" is creating a camera not always centred on the selected character?

I guess. I can't tell for sure because I always use exploration mode. If you have SoZ, that's the best mode IMO, by far.

CameraMode=3 is for Strategy Mode (or something like that)
It's an overhead view similar to Exploration Mode, but it can be set so the camera doesn't remain focused on the currently controlled player; it allows you to use tactics without the camera popping around when switching characters. It should also be set to scroll the screen area (like a bird flying overhead) rather than swivel about like Exploration Mode wants to.
I have SoZ and I'm honestly not sure what changes were made (to the camera) from MotB. But I've heard a lot of difficulties with the camera so here's the sections of my 'nwn2player.ini' (MyDocs->NWN2), since I've really worked them over and am very pleased with these settings (whether using Exploration, Strategy, or even sometimes Character Mode). Caveat, I think there's a few extra settings under Options that are not in the .ini file, that should also be looked at closely.

I notice under [Game Options] in the same file there's also
DriveCameraCamera=2
that I've seen take values of 0 or 2 (probably 1 also). My guess is it's an additional Character Mode setting, but I don't use that much at all. In the same section
CameraMode=1
is likely the default Mode that the game loads you into. Lots of things are possible with this system, including getting the camera to go below horizontal (but I found that doing that negated the click-hold movement, which is sometimes handy). Agreed, the system can be very complicated to get working right. Some people have mentioned that if you modify 'appearance.2da', the HEIGHT parameter of playable races, it won't change the height of the character but it forces the camera to focus on a spot slightly *overhead*, when values are increased ~0.5
unfortunately I forget who originally came up with the idea, but doing it effectively turns Exploration Mode into fancy Character Mode (and more).
Oh, before I forget .. if you use your left hand on the arrow keys (like I do), you ought try remapping MouseLook to the Delete key and Inspection to the End key. very very handy

Ok, maybe I need to explain what I am searching for. I am trying to modding the game and to learn texturing outside areas. So I would like to move the pint of view as I want, in order to take some decent screenshots of particular places in the game. I played Sims2 and there is a wonderful camera that you can actually move step by step along all 3 axes, by hitting some keys on the keyboard. Is there a way to use NWN2 camera like this (ie: in order to focus on the exact point of the environment I want)?

Without seeing the character? You can do that in exploration mode, but the character will be always in the middle.
Maybe you can do it with the toolset?

Oh, it's not a problem if the character is in the screen. The problem is that I don't necessarily need the PC in the MIDDLE of the screen...

I think the option you're looking for is
Can be moved freely (Free Cam)
it's not a true free cam, though, just gives a lot of latitude.
You might find the Ctrl + arrow keys useful to swivel, because it's like Strategy mode.

Yes, well, I mean the PC, or another character of your party (the one you're controlling currently).Vaalyah wrote...

It's difficult to explain... I would like something like this
http://www.modthesim...oad.php?t=97642 (pay attention to the screenshots)
to use in game. On youtube there are also some videos to show how this mod works. It's wonderful! I would like something like this for NWN2. Is there something similar?

for #1 & #2 I used Strategy Mode with 'Free Cam' option (my PC is standing to the lower left, outside the pic). The first pic is zoomed all the way out, the second all the way in almost. I'd think this is mostly what's needed for those texturing pics you want ..
All the rest are taken in Exploration Mode, with customization:
Pics #3 & #4, the Guardhouse, are pretty standard, but you might notice that #3 looks more like Character Mode, an over-the-shoulder view. But it just *looks* that way, what's been done is I've bumped up the HEIGHT parameter in appearance.2da for humans, elves, hobbits, etc. (some of the 'playable races' are hard to figure out for sure, who's what); the defaults have been increased about 0.4 - which translates to about 2.5 for normal sized humans & elves, about 2.0 for gnomes & hobbits. This means that instead of zooming straight into the character's back (or back of head), the Exp.Mode camera zooms in, to a spot just *over* the head, hence the clearer field of view ahead.
It's really obvious when playing the shorties, and when done right can give the feel of an FPS (first-person shooter) camera.
The last four are again Exploration Mode (with the HEIGHT adjustment). In pics #5 & #6, if you look closely at the bottom center of the screen you can see the beak of my helmet. To get the close-up of the house I just walked up close to it.
For pics #7 & #8 I set the 'CameraMode=0' option in nwn2player.ini (MyDocs->NWN2) under [Exploration Mode Options]. Doing that allows the camera to angle down, and look up from below the horizontal plane, but I notice that doing that also fools around with other things, noticeably MouseMovement, which seems to then operate similarly to Character Mode camera (when click-hold to move is used). This is a 'your mileage may vary' setting ..
hope this helps

o_O maybe it's just that English is not my language but to say the truth, I'm a bit confused... ok, not just a bit :-D
In short, for having the camera as in your first 2 pics, I just have to set the Strategy mode options as in your first post in this page?

hi Vaal,
yes. Good place to start
But. You probably * don't * have to edit files if that is uncomfortable. Always make back-ups if you do though!
inGame, go to Options->Strategy Mode tab. There is an option
Can be moved freely (Free Cam)
at center bottom.
Click it on.
enjoy ( i hope )
ps. (extra info)
These options on Strategy Mode tab may also affect what you want:
In Free Camera Center Camera on Selected Character if Off Screen - off
Scroll Camera on Mouse Hitting Edge of Screen - on
Use:
Left / Right / Up / Down arrow keys should * scroll * or * pan * the camera around like a bird overhead.
Crtl + arrow keys will * swivel * and * pitch * the camera around much like in Exploration Mode.
MouseWheel zooms in & out.
Double click on character portrait will center the camera on that Character.
MouseLook : Options -> Keymapping -> Camera -> MouseLook / Camera Movement ( holding the MouseLook key down gives all control of camera movements to your mouse )
nb. If the camera movements are too jerky, you should probably copy over all those _Min _Max _Default & _Current settings (above) to your nwn2player.ini file (again in MyDocs->NWN2) under [Strategy Mode Options]
Too much information? The stuff at the start of my posts are what is most important.
let us know how it goes eh
