Oh goody, we are facing Virmire at the character creation screen, actually it's more of a tear jerker than Virmire because at least with Virmire you aren't directly related to anyone.

Oh my lord, I haven't been checking the boards, and I just now saw the screenshots of Carver for the first time.

BWA HA HA HA HA.

The mage playthrough is definitely going to be the comedy playthrough now.

Carver could very well be the favorite sibling here, who knows?

Carver does not have (extremely visible) breasts.  Therefore, he will never be the favorite sibling.

For goodness sakes, Bethany's scarf is just a giant, red arrow pointing down.

This is probably going to be one of the main reasons why people who know before hand are going to choose warrior over mage.

Which is bit of a shame considering all we really know about Carver is what we've seen of him in a few pictures, yes he does look like a bit of a twit, and yes one with a low IQ but I suppose if things get really bad people could mod Carver so he does have breasts just as visible as his sisters so they can play as a mage.....

But... I do want you to suffer. A little.

I find it a little amusing that some people are looking on this as a loss of choice, when it was never a choice to begin with. And it's not really comparable to Virmire-- that was a decision you had to make late in the game after you'd had the opportunity to get to know both of the characters involved.

Personally I think some people just need some time to let their preconception go and allow it to sink it a little. This is actually a very cool element in the story, in particular for those who value story above all else, and the fact that either one character or the other survives is ultimately irrelevant when it comes to your personal enjoyment of the game. You'll see. :)

this quote from the article is kind of weird...

The design team also decided to inject a bit of common sense into the combat. "If you're a mage, and you're carrying around this big stick, why can't you hit someone with it?" asks Laidlaw, pointing out that ranged combatants, like mages and archers, had little recourse when the fighting got up close and personal. Now, rogues and mages also have melee attacks - not particularly strong ones, but certainly better than just standing there and getting socked in the face.

I could have sworn that you could equip two sets of weapons and switch, that archers DID have a melee archer skill (kind of weird, but you could shoot people point blank and not have your shots interrupted), that both mages and rogues had a low level stun ability that allowed them to get out of melee range, etc.

DAO could use improvements in areas, but saying they "now" have something they already did have is kind of odd.

They have interchangeable dialog, don't they? Even the same voice actor. I knew it. :pinched:

As I said in the Bethany thread, if there's a good story justification for this decision it'll be a less bitter pill to swallow.

And no, this is hardly a game-breaking issue for me, just a very annoying decision, one that I will come to terms with... eventually. It's not like I can do anything about it anyway.

I'm trying to imagine Bethany's voice actor going "DERP DERP DERP" but it somehow doesn't fit. ;)

*thinks through scenarios*

1. Varric is making them bigger
2. Hawke feels his/her sister up at some point
3. The game has jiggle animations

So, class decides who sticks around? Kind of a fishy way to go about it in my opinion but oh well. I hope there are story reasons tied into it. Something to do with Flemmeth maybe?

I haven't seen anything that explicitly states that the one that doesn't stick around is 100% doomed to die either.

As for the article. I like the new craft ingredient system. No longer will I feel like I'm a walking garbage truck full to bursting with rocks and leaves and flowers and goopy demon blood. And the combat screenshot shows some very nice looking interior area to play in. Versus Brown House/Hut #5447-387-113-875556 Lot ARL1550.

Interesting about the classes deciding who lives or dies.

Just adds more playability for me :)

This is a very minor observation and I dunno if it has been mentioned before. But it is neat how in the one screenshot with the fire spell in the building it looks like fire reacts to the environment, such as climbing up the pillar.

Or maybe this means that sooner or later the remaining sibling will also die... and... and then there'll be no boobs or derps! :crying:

3. Bioware has Become Gainax

Oh, nice -- this pulled-back perspective is quite a bit better than what I've feared. I'm reassured

Yep I noticed this in the combat gameplay vid as well. Its definitely 1 case where they downplayed something they shouldn't really have. The pulled back perspective is better than I thought it was going to be.

I do believe Mike Laidlaw hinted that the breast thing is an "exaggerated" part.
