I guess I meant befurred. It's like a fancy Circle mage robe.
Indeed, thanks. Hm, wonder if there will be any "winter weather" in the game and outfits to suit?

It's a "gotcha!" moment, pure and simple. Completely ****s over the Carver character because you can bet that most players will play as a Warrior.
Having a orge pick you up and smash you in the face half-a-dozen times and being able to shrug it off.
Metal armor.
Being able to benchpress your companions.
First into the fray.
Being able to protect your companions by serving as a physical barrier with large sword.

Loss is a big part of the Dragon Age story. There's not an Origin where you don't lose something or someone important to your character, even if it's just your own freedom. Doors close upon you all the time in that game, and often it's despite you doing everything right. My Male Alienage Elf still wonders if he could've made a life with his bride, but that path is barred from him. My male Nobel will forever wonder what kind of man his nephew could've been.
Now, my Hawk will forver wonder if there could've been some way to save all of his family as they fled the blight.
Yes but you couldn't hit them with your stick. What's really great is that this was something many people asked for in the DA:O forums from the very beginning. Of course lots of people defended Bioware's choice. It was stupid to hit people with a stick. Mages can't fight and shooting magic from the staff was more magicky blah blah.ejoslin wrote...
The design team also decided to inject a bit of common sense into the combat. "If you're a mage, and you're carrying around this big stick, why can't you hit someone with it?"
I could have sworn that you could equip two sets of weapons and switch, that archers DID have a melee archer skill (kind of weird, but you could shoot people point blank and not have your shots interrupted), that both mages and rogues had a low level stun ability that allowed them to get out of melee range, etc.
DAO could use improvements in areas, but saying they "now" have something they already did have is kind of odd.

hmmm, even if you only get to have one as a permanent (maybe neither of them are) companion.

What I'm wondering is whether this whole rivalry system is less realistic than that of Origins, where companions could get pissed at you and bounce, like people in real life. The article seems to suggest that they will never leave.

My problem is that I do know this and so I will metagame. When I sit at the character creation screen, my thought process will not be 'what class do I want to play?' but 'who do I want as a companion?'

He sometimes chooses to leave, too. Although granted, that instance also causes plenty complaints.
That is a player driven choice though; I'm unsure if you can annoy him enough to just outright leave but the choice at the Landsmeet he tells you what will happen if you decide against him.
The final blow gives you no choice at all.

Yes, well, I've consistently ranked companions as being more important to me than RPG 'purity,' graphics, or combat.
I assume most of the people who are upset about the new UI or hate that they can't dress Isabela in pants would be indifferent to this as it doesn't impact gameplay.
