I felt genuine honest-to-goodness jubilation when I saw and heard this from Wrex (I had no idea he would re-appear in the game back when the game launched and I played for the first time. I had assumed he was cut completely and that the Illusive man's mention of him would be the only reference to Wrex at all).

I love that scene.. because .. it's friendship. I love it more than the romance scenes. True friendships typically outlast romantic love -- most friends we make in life, we hold on as best we can to them.. or at least are careful not to damage it.... romantic love is far more fragile and fleeting.

This is something I wish Shepard would have more opportunity to experience with his crew / squad. The only squad member that comes across as being a friend (if you pursue it), is Garrus and even Tali to a degree... but it could have been taken further for those 2.

The rest of the squad to me, while they can feel like a "pal", they never come close to becoming a friend (romances excluded)... and I use friend in it's original form, not the raped, bastardized version the kiddies use today with Facebook and social networking... I'm talking about the person who'd risk grievous bodily harm to him/herself or even death to defend you, and vice versa.

Joker and Shep shoot the breeze often on the bridge of the Normandy, and Shep is warm / friendly to Jeff (if you're paragon).. it would be nice to see them develop more as friends, especially considering the sheer hell they've been through together... afterall, Shepard died for Jeff and Jeff had to watch Shepard die, as well as cope with that loss more closely than any other squad mate.

The interactions with squad in ME2 were pretty damn good for the most part, but I think a few short scenes where we can see them just as friends together (like we did with Wrex and Shep), would be very rewarding / satisfying as a player... even more than romances would (which I also appreciate though).

However, I definitely don't want the absurd "bro" stuff we see in Gears of War and the like... In ME, Shep goes out of her / his way to help the crew with their personal lives - he or she becomes closely involved with some element of their past... this leaves a great deal of room for real friendship to forge... Like with Wrex - everything from helping him recover his family armor and history to convincing him and earning his trust on Virmire with what had to have been a near impossible choice for Wrex to make... bud he had faith in Shep, and his faith in Shep proved well-founded... stuff like that is the strongest foundation of friendship, and why reuniting with him on Tuchanka was such a heart-warming experience.

Garrus and Tali needed that treatment as well (though they got it to a much smaller capacity).

What about you folks, is this something you'd like to see emphasized in ME3 --- even if it means they have to scale back a bit on romance?

Romance is cool and all... but good character friendships are just as damn memorable and heart warming.

For Wrex this was just PERFECT. But Garrus and Tali? I like them where they are.

Agreed 100% with the OP: friends > romance.  What they did with Wrex was amazing.  As for Garrus and Tali, they have achieved bro status, but I wish the closeness wasn't reserved for romance.

Well, they should have more friendly dialogues even without romances yes. I'd like a lot to have more funny stories sayd by Garrus, or some dialogues about he or Tali survived to the Normandy's destruction.

I loved Wrex's reunion too, especially since after the cold greetings I got from Ash and Liara I was either expecting him not to appear or act very hostile. Honestly brightened up my day when he greeted you like that. And he hadn't changed at all! Still his dry humourous self, which is brilliant.

The stuff you did with Dr. Chawa was very cool.

Ah! Yes, perfect example - can't believe I overlooked it... that was definitely a great moment... guess it slipped my mind though since Chakwas otherwise has no other appearance in game except for being rescued in the suicide mission (Mordin seems to have made her obsolete).

I've yet to come that far with a career in ME2 where Wrex shows up. I kind of expected to see or hear very little of the fellow in ME2. Your vid was great news to me as Wrex is one of my favourite characters from ME1. Liked him better than Garrus, TBH. The reunion with Garrus in ME2 was still one of the best moments in that game, just because of that old friendship you speak of. The new team mates may be cool but they don't have that deeper connection. Now it appears I can look forward to another great moment of this marvelous game. :)

That was the best scene out of all the past team members easily. Ashley was like a rude child and Liara was all "Hey there... do a job for me." But Wrex pushing that other Krogan out of his way so he could shake Shepard's hand was touching.

I kind of liked it but I didn't think it fit his character. It was awkward for me especially after I had just finished a run on ME to import over before I played ME2. It wasn't awkward because I didn't like Wrex. It was awkward because he didn't strike me as the type to do what he did. After that exchange I got to see the Wrex I expected.

That was my favorite "reunion" moment of ME2. Better than when Garrus took off his helmet, better than seeing Joker. Wrex gave me the warm fuzzies.

That level of friendship demands either a dedicated mission in ME3, or DLC mission.

Shepard, Wrex and Grunt practising Urdnot diplomacy with extreme prejudice upon the clans who dont fall under Wrex's banner.

Warlord Okeer is dead.

Of course he is, you're with Shepard. How could he be alive?

To give Liara some credit, she does explain in LoTSB why she did not appear to be herself, but yes it is funny that a Krogan, an awesome one at that, would show the most joy in seeing Shepard.

This was my absolute favorite moment in the game, bar none. I've repeated it to friends and on any message board I frequent because of the emotional impact it had on me. Because ME1 made me care so much about the characters... I was thinking ME2 was going to be the ultimate downer because the old squad just fell apart after Shepard's death. Everything just went wrong.

1. The Normandy crew - a lot of them didn't make it off the ship. Some didn't like it but I thought visiting the crash site was a brilliant idea. Thanks, Council, for not heading Shep's warnings and getting the one ship and commander who could stop it all turned into orbital debris.
2. The Virmire Survivor - Ash or Kaiden spit on you for being a traitor and even accuse Cerberus of being behind the disappearance of the colonies. I could understand it, but damn...that was cold.
3. Garrus - After all my paragonning in ME1, he goes back to C-sec, quits, and then follows in Shep's footsteps to build his own squad, only to have them all betrayed and murdered.
4. Tali - put in charge of a series of missions where dozens of quarians die defending her, and she herself can't quite believe Shepard is back alive. Not to mention what happens to earn her loyalty.
5. Liara - the quiet, shy, bookish archaeologist is now Don T'Soni of Illium, ready to scramble peoples' insides if they don't play ball. Sure it turns out she's got a good reason for being that way but it was really hard to take how far she'd fallen.

And then finally, there's Wrex. If you bothered to talk to him in ME1, you learn that the reason he left Tuchanka in the first place was because he was tired of krogan killing krogan and he tried to change things. His greatest opposition tried to kill him for it, and that opponent was his own father. For hundreds of years he joined his kin as nomadic muscle for hire, at the same time bemoaning the fate of his kind as mercenaries doomed to extinction. But what difference could one person make, right?

So, you approach the Clan Leader in ME2 and who is catching an earful from a rival about changing the old ways? And what does he do when he sees you? He jumps to his feet, shoves his way through his own guards and greets you like you'd wished everybody else had done after believing you dead for two years... There's no talk of treachery, no hint of suspicion... Wrex is just glad to see you again. It was a kodak moment.

The icing on the cake... All that time spent talking to him in ME1, listening to his musings about what was wrong with krogan society... he actually went home to do something about it. I remember thinking something finally went right in the Mass Effect universe. It was a great bit of storytelling, gaming and emotional payoff all the way around. It made me genuinely happy.

Lovely scene. Things to note as to why this is a great scene:

Callbacks to ME1 in music and conversation about past events. Nostalgia through the roof! Love it.

In Dragon Age 2, the 'framed narrative' has a goal to make relationships feel more organic, as if a lot of time has passed and relationships truly developed. I think that is shown with this scene, as time has passed between the games, and you can see the relationship between Wrex and Shepard has become stronger as well.

Situation is well written. It is a completion of his story arc, it is great to see Wrex having taken up the responsibility to help his people. As the previous post suggests, these types of developments over time have great emotional impact. That's why I love this scene.

Best scene in ME2, no doubt about it. :D

There should be some scenes of the crew and squad just chilling together in ME3. Yeah, the Reapers are here, but apparently it's going to be a lighter (in terms of mood, not GB) game, and ME2 was pretty humorous at times already. And I'd agree that Garrus and Tali needed more interaction in general, since the fact that both of them essentially took Shepard's resurrection in stride is odd. Wrex is well-established as stoic as can be and he basically gave me a brohug, Garrus just sounds shocked at first then shifts back into mission mode. No, anyone who knew Shepard in ME1 and didn't know that he was coming back needs to be freaking out with joy. Garrus should've gotten a Wrex-style happy moment at least, and it's suprising that Tali didn't immediately glomp Shepard, based on her personality in general. Even Ashley should be hugging Shepard even without a romance, since it's her CO and he's not dead. Maybe she could still get angry afterwards, but there shoulda been more than just calling me a god and giving a handshake.

Going out for drinks with the crew (possibly to celebrate some victory) would be a great way to get some interactions (hopefully even among the crew, without Shepard involved) and keep the game somewhat light-hearted. Shepard could take a break from making choices that cost hundreds of lives to make up his mind about whether he wants batarian ale or thessian wine for this round. And if Shepard decides to go out on the dance floor and show off his sweet moves, maybe some of the crew can come show how it's done (Legion? Beatboxing? C'mon, the setup's already there).

Got to agree with this. The rest of the ME1 squad reunions felt hollow compared to that with Wrex.

Have to agree with everybody else here. Wrex's reunion was probably the most moving of all the ME1 character's. (Although Tali's comes a close second. ;)) I thought for a moment the big lug was going to start crying!

The Wrex reunion is definitely a great example of Shep friendship (friendshep). Reuniting with Garrus and drinking with Chakwas are also some great examples. I do, however, believe that one ME2 character has shown some friendly (as in of and/or pertaining to friends, not amiable) relations with Shep is Jacob. If you say all there is to say to him as a male Shepard, they just sort of hang out, brofist, and talk about partying on the Citadel. That seems pretty friendly, and the dialog between them does too. Too bad it's Jacob though, there are many ME2 squadmates I'd rather be pals with. How cool would it be to go drinking with Mordin, chill with Joker somewhere other than the cockpit, or hanging with the Illusive Man in person?

My heart swells and my eyes almost tear up every time this moment happens in game. That is 12 times now that I've playthrough ME2, and it still gets me.

Kaidan treated me like CRAP, the emotional, supposedly understanding human, treated me like crap. But the supposedly irrational, blood thirsty, rage filled Krogan warrior jumps up and pats me on the shoulder, shakes my hand, and calls me friend. I love it.

I do find it both interesting that of all the folks from ME1, the one who's unconditionally thrilled to see Shep and actually shows it is Wrex, badass cynical mercenary Renegade Wrex.  Wrex was under no obligation to even help you in ME1, and you only hung out for a year or so, but it seemed to make such a powerful impression on him based on his reaction.  Tali's kinda hung up on Cerberus, as are Ash and Kaidan, though at least Tali joins up with you.  Liara's preoccupied with her Shadow Broker business.  Anderson and Hackett are mired in politics.  I'm willing to cut Garrus some slack since he's a) my favorite and B) in pretty bad shape once you catch up to him.

But Wrex?  Wrex drops everything, leaps to his feet, and greets you as his old friend with a huge grin.  None of the stuff about the krogan or the Reapers or Cerberus matters--all that matters is that he has his pal back.  D'AWWWWW.

Garrus and Wrex reunion's were both my favorite. I loved the moment when Garrus sat down and wearily took off his helmet. I knew it was Garrus when I was talking with Mercs. "He's Turian...." then "....and he's brave.." My thought, ITS GARRUS! And there he was. "Shepard.. " He was so tired and sounded so beat. I just wanted to save him. My favorite squaddie for the game, by far! Garrus goes with my Shep on every mission.

With Wrex. How I wanted the option to hug the guy. A screaming, yelling, tackle hug. He was the same Wrex. It was like... I hate to say this.. like going home. "Shepard.. my friend..." I love that line. There is no better line that makes you feel so darn good. There was warmth and compassion in Wrex' voice as he spoke.

I love this game.

That's because the reunion scene with Wrex was written very well, whereas the reunion scenes with the ME 1 LIs were written terribly.
