My money's on Nathaniel or Anders, and I tend to think it'll be Anders. Which makes me happy (if we do get him) because I liked him a lot but we didn't get to see him a whole lot.

What do you guys think? who is it? and how it'll be explained? considering that alomst all your companions can die / be killed except "Oghren" who was also a companion in Awakening and since we have Varric I don't think we'll have another male dwarf.

Oghren could be killed, if you pissed him off enough in Origins

I did this and in Awakening he was back, you can say "You are supposed to be dead Dwarf" He says he was knocked out and woke up in a bush.

Which kinda means anyone could be back haha.

I'm thinking that we will see Anders as a temporary companion and that he will be somehow connected to a Templar ruckus plot line which we help him out with before he heads back to Ferelden to meet with our Wardens.  Almost certainly not a permanent companion since he can end up dead in Awakenings.  I pretty sure they didn't say the person returning was going to be a permanent companion anywhere.

Anders was an apostate mage, right? And Bethany will die if Hawke is a mage because that would be too many apostates together?

I don't think it's Anders.

If this is true I'm now pretty confident Anders is a companion.

I saw a pic floating around that had the party lined up and in it in the back appeared to be Anders.  Though it could have just been a cameo

And have one apostate why not make it a party!

I would hope its a member from Origins, not Awakenings. Leliana would be my wish.

well if fenris is a warrior then thatd be 2 warriors 2 rogues and 1 mage as party companions. Or for a mage hawke 3 warriors. Im betting that the other mage in the party will be anders though we'll meet up with him later in the game. Otherwise there'll be only one mage either bethany or the pc.

I'd prefer someone from Awakening - Anders, Nate or Velanna, preferably - or WH - Ariane or Finn. I really kind of had enough of the Origins companions - mainly Ohgren - and there would be so many complications with them, considering the possible LI connections. Hawke won't know, and might not bother him, but could very well bother lots of players.

However, since we have 2 rogue companions already (Varric and Isa) I think Nate unlikely, except as a very temp companion. Aveline is a warrior - so is Fenris no? I would expect they may try to keep the companion classes somewhat even, perhaps a little heavier on warriors. Given that you get EITHER Carver or Bethany depending on your class, that makes it more apparent to me that they're trying to keep some balance. Also, history - Origins had 2 mages, 2 rogues, 5 warriors. Awakening had 2 rogues, 2 mages, 2 warriors.

So far, we know of 2 rogues, 2 warriors (Aveline, Fenris), 1 mage/warrior choice issue (Bethany/Carver) and no other announced mages (that I recall?)

So I'll bet Anders, with Velanna and Finn as choices 2 and 3.

I'm betting Anders because of that screenshot and the lack of mages for NPCs (at least so far). I definitely think we'll be meeting Nathaniel at some point, but he won't be a companion.

I'd be happy to see either of them frankly :). What kind of bums me out is that their Awakening stories complicate things so much. Like others have pointed out, they could only be temporary companions really, and it's unlikely they would return to the Free Marches after joining up with the Grey Wardens isn't it? They're not really 'free' to be the best companions they can be to Hawke.

*remembers when this thread cropped up for Awakening and the returning character was Ohgren; also remembers the huge disappointment that ensued*

I'm guesing Anders or Nathaniel. They both make references to being in the Free Marches (Anders' reference is in an epilogue that hints to adveturing with Isabela).

If we're really sticking to Origins characters then possibly Zevran or Wynne (gah I hope it's not Wynne but it would go along with the "we need more mages" theory).

I'd rather see Finn, Ariane, Sigrun or Shale than any of the names previously dropped. Sigrun in particular has great potential.

It makes no sense to use a character from the expansion or dlc. I doubt they'd do that.

I favour Nathaniel over Velanna. In the game, He started off hating the Warden and thinking the world of his father (as sons often do) but over the course of the game, as he met people who told him what his dad was really like, he changed his views and attitudes and matured a lot. Velanna started off as a spitefull snarky woman with an enormous chip on her shoulder and finished as a spitefull snarky woman with an enormous chip on her shoulder.

Nathaniel Howe is my favourite character in all the games.

Just kill me if it's Wynne. She's such a grey character (no pun intended). My bets are on Zevran, Leli, or Sten.

Why not?  It seems to me they have the most potential for character develoment . . . all the Origins characters have already been developed.

I think it's Nathaniel Howe, there was a big thread about it a few months ago, and Mike chimed in then suggesting that it was no coincidence that he was in Kirkwall before he met the Warden in Awakenings.
I'll try and find the thread.

Here it is - http://social.biowar...1/index/3346184

Mike's comment -

"Nathaniel spent a year in Kirkwall? It's like we planned this!

Note: We planned this.

Note2: Wonder how many other side references are actually foreshadowing?

Note3: "The part that will really bake your noodle is whether you would have broken the vase if I hadn't said anything.""
