Keep in mind that Bioware said we would have at least 2 of every class
We have 2 warrior Carver and aveline
1 mage Bethany
2 Rogues, Varric and presumably Fenris

So anders would be my best bet

I'm thinking it's more like...

Mages... Bethany (Damager), Anders (Healer)
Rogues... Isabella (Dual Wielder), Varric (Archer)
Warriors... Aveline (Tank), Fenris (2 Hander), Carver (2 Hander)

And the DLC character included in the special edition (if not one of the above) will probably be a unique class like Shale was. As we know Hawkes class choice will eliminate one of the twins in order to limit role redundancy. I do realize that in this setup it is possible to have two 2 handers in Fenris and Carver if Hawke is a mage, but then again Bioware have never been afraid to stack up on warriors in the past have they? Both characters will have their own unique talent trees to differentiate themselves anyway.

It's Alistair.

Unless I misunderstand the thread . . . this pot of beens was spilled in October.

The OP's link to the article comes up as expired for me, but that's what I see.

Hmm... seeing as we've got no confirmed mages asides from Bethany, I think and/or hope this companion will probably one of these people:

1. Velanna: Most likely as her epilogue never has her actually confirmed dead and I thought she was a pretty decent character, if a little stern.

2. Wynne: Although she can be killed multiple ways in Origins, the writers have confirmed if they want a character to return enough they will make a retcon. Besides, couldn't she call upon that 'Spirit of Faith' to restore her life just as in the Circle Tower? Also, if alive, in Awakening she mentions traveling to the College of Magi in Cumberland, which is just across the border from the Free Marches.

3. Anders: Although he came across to me a bit as an Alistair clone, he was still funny and well-written and he is said to be seen with a familiar pirate woman in one of his epilogues.

4. Finn: Finn from Witch Hunt came across as a new type of character to me and although I sometimes found him annoying he wasn't a half-bad character.

5. Sketch: Sketch from Leliana's Song is probably my least favorite of the lot as he simply didn't have much of a character to him, though I think I recall hearing that a character from that DLC would make an appearance in another game.

I think Flemeth's return would be the most epic and there are so many ways that could go

Flemeth will return, but not as party member i guess.

I think Anders or Nate will have an appearance as party member - at least as temporary party member ...

Wynne ... i don't know if she'll live long enough Posted Image

Oghren - he's a fan favourite.

Also, I do believe that a dev hinted that Nathaniel will be back, although probably it will be for a short period of time, because of Awakening.

There could be far more NPCs than the typical Two-Mage, Two-Warrior, Two-Rogue deal.

Keep in mind that the Dev said 'There will be at least two.... etc. etc' Which may mean a lot of different party members who have different classes, with no shortage of number.

For that reason, there's no way of knowing if the Origins character could be one.. or two.. or multiple people. They may also be characters that 'briefly' stay in your party, considering the game goes over a period of ten years. Alistair may very well be a temporary NPC, as well as Anders, and any assortment of characters you may have kept alive.

If Oghren returns, I just hope he's an optional companion. It's not that I would kill him, given the chance, I just don't want him anywhere near me or my team.

I'd love to see him in DA2, simply because he seems to get drunker and cruder as time goes on, and meeting him chronologically after Awakening would allow me to see what drunker and cruder than Awakening-Oghren looks like... I imagine that by that point he'd have transcended mortal limits of seediness and crudity, maybe he'd try to hump the legs of female companions...

seriously though, he's a survivor, and he fits with the dark tone in that he's not necessarily the character you'd want to survive and keep turning up, he's basically a drunken loser, albeit one with awesome fighting skills and a heart that probably isn't gold but maybe has some gold foil around it, he's the "least deserving" character and thus the perfect one drama-wise for you to never be rid of. Much as you might want to be :P

I'm personally hoping for Shale though, since Wynne got called up to the mages meeting, possibly scuppering their plans to travel to the tevinter imperium together and leaving shale free to wander about the world leaving a trail of bloodied feathers in her wake

Maybe the Keeper's First (can't remember her name) from the Dalish origin; she was technically a party member, if only for a short time.

I would suspect Nathaniel Howe as he was in the Free marches and i would not see how Ander's would be there.

I was wondering why would they make Fenris and Carver both 2 handers and only Aveline with sword/shield.

But it wraps up over Alistair-shield/weapon and Oghren/Sten-2 handers. So it's the same...

Because of this I'm sure that  Bethany/Carver won't be permanent partymembers and won't be in the party past the early stages of the game. I really don't see them making 2 full partymembers for a whole game that most players won't get to see. At most I see a few Bethany/Carver specific family related (side)quests and Bethany/Carver appearing by Hawke's side at some important parts of the game.

So we've yet to learn of at least 2 mage partymembers and only have Aveline - sword and shield and Fenris - twohander. I suspect that by the time we get Fenris Carver will be long gone from the party.

This is how I see it. Since it takes place over ten years, there could be a number of options that change depending on past and future choices, and it seems pretty hard to predict.

She's one of the almost certainly won't return companions...

A. She's DLC.

and most importantly...

B. She can die in origins VERY easily. Like flipping a coin.

When you deny Oghren, you deny yourself. We all have a perverted, drunken dwarf within us dying to get out and molest the Christmas ham.

Monsieur Gaider mentioned, if I did not imagine it, a female character who is yet to be announced.

I'm not sure I'm all that comfortable with my inner dwarf.
