As some of you know we had a press event here at the BioWare studio in Edmonton recently. Roughly 30 press attended for 2 days of interviews and hands-on with Dragon Age 2. Some of the articles are starting to surface and I am happy to see that the first impressions are quite positive:

If you find other articles please post below. Thanks!

German preview and interviews with Goldman; Laidlaw and Darrah (englisch sound and german transskripts)

Edit: The direct links did not work, if you want to hear the audios just follow the edited link and then select the name of the developer.

Yep

Curse: Has max level changed?

Mark Darrah: Max level is now 50, which you're unlikely to get to :). We try, as much as possible, to have the level cap be soft.

I knew they were going to use skill trees. I made a similar thread about it a while back.

The links for the interviews aren't working, though since other have heard them I suspect some sort of site overload.  If anyone downloaded them and would be willing to pass them along please PM me.

You know, I've come to think of DA's first three games as a trilogy. The Mage Trilogy or whatever.

"These moments create a certain amount of distance between the player and Hawke as player-character: Hawke greets players as old friends even though the player has never seen them; supporting characters develop their own nuanced relationships with Hawke that the player is left to parse."

This makes me nervous. One of the biggest pluses (if not the number one) for me in Origins was how close I felt to my warden's character. I really hope this isn't drastically different with DA2.

So your sibling can change as well? Depends on what your gender is?

Surviving sibling depends on your class.

* Mage Hawke -> Carver (warrior) survives
* Rogue or warrior Hawke -> Bethany (mage) survives

^ ah i guess that depends on how much you already know...basically if you've been following DA2 a bit, the're aernt spoilers.(first 3-4 characters may be mentioned.)

dtoid- very brief stuff at the beginning. (the beginning plot, who is Hawke and how the game starts out(dwarf/story telling) paragraphs 5-7 'spoilers')
rpgfan- you can skip the paragraph as the article has subtitles ('story')
escapist- same details as dtoid.(paragraphs 3&4)
mmorpg-  no spoliers
wow.curse-no spoilers
xam-no spoilers
actiontrip- no spoilers

I saw in one of the developer interviews that they"choped of the edges"   and eliminated the "chess" par of the game  did they realy eliminate the tactical genius of DAO  I hope it not due to all the complaining that DAO was to hard when it was realessed.

Hm.  So much for my plan of a brother and sister mage duo taking the Chantry apart, gleefully cackling the whole way.

Ah well. Not like I wasn't going to play a warrior anyway. :)

The hands on reviews all share the same weakness imho:
essence is: 'from the little we've seen it *could* be a great game'
I rather wait for the february or march issue of The Escapist
when it should be more clear wich impact general ea strategies
have on this particular sequel of the series:
- source:
Develop (online) interview with Frank Gibeau december/6/2010

Single player with optional online goodies would be great
- as opposed to 'insert coin to continue' dlc trash with
eyeglint and mindless hack and slash over
quality and story - that stuff may rot in peace.

I don't think it will be an issue.  There is still a lot about Hawke that YOU will determine by your actions over the course of the game, and thus, Hawke will be yours.  From reading the article, all it seems they've done is eschew long, cumbersome, formal introduction dialogues since Hawke knows several of the other characters already, and instead worked the information about Hawke's history with them into the game in more subtle ways.  While this does mean that your character will be familiar with someone that you aren't, I actually like this better and even find it a bit more immersive in some ways.  After all, I have had more than one moment in an RPG when I've wondered why my in-game "best friend" is having to relate his life story to me -- information my character should have rightly known already.

So, either your character knows things you don't, or your character doesn't know something they should.  Each approach has its drawbacks.  I'm fine with how they're doing it.
