rpgfan- you can skip the paragraph as the article has subtitles ('story')

Just give me a gorgeous hunk of a man (femHawke) to romance and I'll be happy. So far, I haven't seen anyone that I like and I preordered. Mores the pity if they don't.

Curse: Has max level changed?

Mark Darrah: Max level is now 50, which you're unlikely to get to :). We try, as much as possible, to have the level cap be soft.

Combat walkthrough video:
http://dragonage.bio...walkthrough.zip

They really seem to have nailed both playstyles.  Can't wait for my copy to arrive.

If the game isn't finished yet, wouldn't it be a hands-on preview

The title is slightly ambiguous, because it could make you think these people are playing the full, pre-gold version of the game.  Really though, they are just reviewing (evaluating) what they've seen so far and giving their early impressions of the work in progress.

Frankly, this surprised me. I mean, in the back of my mind I knew that
when we posted reviews, developers read them, but I had never heard one
openly admit that the criticism we provided on a title was taken
seriously.

Can't believe how naive this "journalist" is.  Positive and negative press will help or hurt sales.  It certainly helps when a developer is also paying very close attention to reactions because they truly want to make a better product for the consumer and not just for the almighty dollar, but it's silly to discount that as a motivation as well.

How long does it take to publish and distribute a game? No, that isn't a sarcastic question, I really don't know.

Since I imagine that it would take far more than a month to make all of those DVDs and another few weeks to distribute them to wholesalers, I would expect that if they haven't gone gold yet, they must be getting ready to do it soon... that or postpone their release date.

Edit: Whoa! I just noticed something after watching the linked downloadable video. At 1:11, Varric is attacking while stealthed! I don't mean that he gets in one shot and then loses his cover. I mean that he enters stealth mode while combat is already underway and then remains in stealth mode as he fires off a few rounds from Bianca.

This has me intrigued! Is this a rogue ability, to enter stealth mode while under direct observation? Could he remain in stealth mode indefinitely and continue ranged combat? Would he even lose his cover if he entered melee? Can enemies do it too?

You have to understand that I'm a bit of a dinosaur. I've been playing DnD since 1976, so the concept is a bit new. Not saying it isn't cool. After all, with fists and swords and what have you flying around, how could enemies reasonably be expected to notice when your rogue just isn't there anymore? It's just different.

You had a chance to enter stealth during combat in Origins/Awakening too if you took the third rank of stealth, while the fourth just improved your chances.  As far as remaining in stealth, you usually broke during your first attack.  It might just be an animation issue in DA2 and they appear to remain stealthed until the attack is over, dunno.  I highly doubt they are going to have NPCs stealthing before your eyes and then running to the back to destroy those with little protection without you being able to do anything about it.

Didn't Shrieks do that in DA:O ? They definitely do in Awakenings, I just got jumped by a bunch of them in my current game.

IRMcGhee, unless I'm mistaken, you're on about enemies (Genlock assassins were also known for this) that are hidden until you approach them (not knowing they are there), and they then attack you - though they remain visible for the entirity of the actual fight, whereas I think what the previous posters are talking about is entering stealth during the actual combat,

Entering stealth mode in combat also depends on the enemy. Shrieks, and indeed most other enemies you meet in DA, are below your character level, and would be unlikely to have the necessary skill to enter stealth whilst being observed by you.

Similarly, I have never had a character / companion with sufficient skill to enter stealth in combat with the High Dragon or Archdemon, even with 4 ranks of stealth. But then I don't usually go above 20-30 in cunning, which is probably the relevant characteristic in the stealth algorithm - though dexterity may also be used, I suppose.

I wonder what the minimum requirements actually are to stealth the High Dragon or Archdemon?

Nah, I'm talking about stealthed enemies that "recloak" in combat. Might just have been the Alpha Shrieks that managed that, too busy killing them to notice :)

Ah, my apologies, IRMcGhee... Now that you mention it, some Shrieks (possibly Alphas only) seemed to "teleport" at points during the battle - maybe they were actually just using short-ish bursts of the stealth technique...

Either way, again, sorry about the confusion.

@Karlojey I love that meme! :)

btw You could give some hands on time to CD-Action from Poland :> They got great reviews of the witcher II this month and they're one of the oldest and most respected gaming magazines in Central Europe.

I can't wait for the next round of reviews/previews/what have you. Most of these are saying the same thing (which is understandably, given that they probably all played the same part of the game and this is what every one most wants to hear about), I'll be glad to see some new info. Things are looking very good at this point- I'm so excited for this game!
