GameZone has their obligitory DA2 preview and mostly its the same as the rest from today with a couple tidbits I hadn't read anywhere else. Such as different world states to import, including what they describe as the "default" world state for DA2, as well as commenting on the linearity of the game and how some Inception like sci fi-esque music didn't seem to fit:

In comparison to the original, the story arc was much more linear for the first 4-5 hours that was played through. The world is much darker  than it was in the first, but BioWare promises that it’ll be a much more reactive story that changes with choices.

Starting out the game,  players are tasked to select from three builds to carry over from the  first game if they don’t have a save to upload. The three builds are as  follows verbatim:

“Hero of Ferelden” (Default )

Ended Fifth Blight by killing Archdemon and survived. Placed Alistair on the throne.

“The Martyr”

Young Dalish Elf who died to kill the Archdemon. She left the kingdom ruled by Alisair and Anora.

“No Compromise”

Dwarven noble took command of Grey Wardens. Exalted Alistair, sent  Loghain to his death against Archdemon, and left Anora as Ferelden’s ruler.

It’s evident that the actions from Dragon Age: Origins won’t simply  be forgotten. The Qunari come back redesigned and more stylized than  ever. The Grey Wardens show their mug from time to time, but BioWare has made it clear that their story has come and past as of right now.

Unfortunately, there were many times the music and sound effects took  the experience and removed it from the high fantasy theme. When entering the character tree, there’s an Inception-like science-fiction echo that is harrowing enough to stick out like a sore thumb.

So the default world state is that the Warden survived killing the Archdemon and Alistair is king....hmmm...is the Dark Ritual the default choice then? Old God Baby for DA3???:wizard:

Wow, they really made it so you have to play Origins in order to make it so you have your wanted choices, didn't they?

Hah, none of those come close to my canon

Well, at least they give you a couple of choices to choose from if you don't have an Origins save to import. If they gave you every combination of every choice, why even bother having a custom import option?

I'm not sure if you're serious.

The closest one of these comes to my cannon is the fact that there is a dwarf noble in it

Interesting.

Nice choices though nowhere near as flexible as an imported save, which isn't surprising.

Don't worry someone will make a save editor program for DAII soon enough

I'm guessing Default and No Compromise are male characters (with default most likely being Cousland).

I'm actually rather surprised there's not a Mage Origin option, given the possible connection between the human mage Warden and Hawke's mother.

A bit disappointing there's not an option for ALL the Origins.

But is there any info on the importing process for those who have DA profiles?

*looks at their descriptions again*

Where did you get that from?

Edit: Other than gut-feeling.

Is "exalted Alistair" supposed to be "exiled Alistair" in the Dwarf Noble choice?

Doesn't look like it, but based off the information from the article, it may be safe to assume that save imports will list some of the stuff you did before importing them.

Who killed the Archdemon.
Who is leading Ferelden after the Blight.

This preview wasn't as good as the others, either, though we did get that bit about choosing what happened in Origins if you didn't play it.

And I say 3 options are better than none - and if you never played DA:O you probably aren't really going to complain about not getting more choices for things you know nothing about.

If the default world state is that the Warden survived and Alistair is king, its not a stretch to think that in that default choice, the DR might also be considered a default choice.

But default doesn't mean that they'd take that one and run with it. It was more towards the little smiley with a hat and wand.

Are those three options final?

Sounds like it, but it also seems like something they could expand on since presumably the content is there for all possible outcomes.

Given that you can still buy Origins fairly cheap on all platforms, I don't think they'd want to have it such that you can come up with every variable to import without having played Origins. I'd imagine they'll simply have a handful like those described in the article for those without saves.
