Bye-Bye Arcane Warrior

So, there is a more sensible in-game reason for it not being there. That's just my two cents though.

Planet scanning was just terrible in my opinion, which many others, including high profile reviewers shared, prompting Bioware to make it pathetically easy, yet still annoying in a patch.
It was boring, but it was what they added to cover the cost of their new inventory system, which were the upgrades.
That's where your inventory went. If you don't believe me, play a no upgrade game of ME2. You'll see it isn't fundamentally different from a no inventory beyond starter for ME1.

Then again, perhaps they would have set up the spell-tree to channel certain spells specifically through attack animations. That would be pretty cool.

Arcane Warrior is perhaps the specialization I used the least in DA:O. Only time I ever use it is from Wynne and that's just so she can use Wade's Superior Dragonskin Armor for the talent decrease bonus. At least Spirit Healer is still on there, a useful specialization in a pinch.

I do it because it's just cool to be a warrior mage.mpdx wrote...
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't someone in BioWare say that Force Mage doesn't exist? I'll try to find a link of that soon, very tired now.

But the arcane warrior allowed me put my hatred of magic staffs aside and I ended up creating one of my faverorite Characters in an RPG.

I agree it was waaaaaay overpowered my Arcane Warrior holds the record for quickest kill of both the ArchDemon and The Mother, I would've loved to see it return in some powererd down form Mages in armor with Bloody big swords how is that not cool?

I think I'll still be able to stab something with my Staff of Parthalan....
Agreed lol...I'll probably just end up spec'ing my mage as more of a "Battle Mage" since I have access to the Staff of Parthalan. Which, IMO, could be part of the reason WHY we can get the SoP to begin with. I could be wrong, which is known to happen. Still on the fence as to whether my first character is going to be a Mage or Warrior though. Leaning more toward Warrior though on my first run just so I can find out what's "new" and what isnt so to speak. I never wore the heavier armors on my AW in Origins anyway. I basically wore Reaper's Vestments, Blackhand gauntlets, and rings that increased spirit damage and/or nature damage. Nor did I use sword and board on him either. I always had him using a Two-Hander with Haste cast to "speed up" my attacks heh.

I should know i played it.
Being one was like being a retribution paladin from WoW right down to the auto attacking.

I kind of got attached to the Keeper spec in Awakenings though. I hope Merrill has some of those capabilities in her repotoire. And so long as 'force mage' means 'attack magic', then I'm as happy as can be!

Bioware, bring back epic sword & sorcery .... and I mean that ... literally!
p.s. if people think AW was op in DAO, just make them only able to wear medium armmor with the spec. not heavy.
Also, remember they had no bonus moves/finishing moves in DAO.

For those of you who disagree based on your preconceptions of what a mage "should be," or of how we're "supposed" to play a game that we've purchased with our money, I suggest you make your own mages back-line fireballers and forgo the passive or sustained boosts which give tank mages their jedi-like coolness. Why worry about what your friend's character build is like if you've made your own choices? Your characters cannot fight each other anyway, so comparing relative power is a bit moot.
P.S. I'd like to share a bit of a conversation I had with a friend after making this post:
Question: "To whom is playing an Arcane Warrior unfair?"
Answer: "The Darkspawn."

I was hoping to make an OP bow wielding mage and pump points into Magic/Dexterity, but booooo at weapon restrictions
