Yeah 'Force Mage' sounds like pure magic dmg or physical dmg spells. Probably along the lines of the Kinetic Weapon/Crushing Prison thing. What is REALLY awesome is that he said characters now start with 6 skill trees basically, or 'Web's as they keep using in interviews. Each one seems to have about 6-8 'use' abilities and passive that up the total to 10-12.

I think he meant that universally too, if so that's... way better then I was originally thinking (3 + specialization). And pretty sure the elemental stuff takes up 2 tabs worth, or 3 for Mage already so would be a bit silly to have a specialization around it. They should bring something very unique to the field not reiterate existing stuff.

He won't be missed. And look, we might get a mage specialization that actually involves magic! Not possession from beyond the veil, or forbidden arts, or becoming a melee death machine! A spec with actual, pure, blasting, magic!
I'm excited about that. I might even play a mage this time around! I can be a magic casting mage! Who would'a thunk that?

Image IPBImage IPBBlasphemy!

But seriously, I agree completely.  When I play a mage, I want to be wearing a dress, standing in the back lines, and throwing fireballs because if I did anything else I could break a nail.  And that's how it's supposed to be. (Exaggeration).

But yeah, I never understood the desire for Arcane Warrior (though I do understand the desire for multi-classing); if you want to fight in armor with swords and such so bad, why not just play a warrior?

Mostly for RP reasons, and it adds a bit of flavor to melee combat.  I just started a new DAO play through and DLed the multiclass mod, I made a 2 hander fighter, with some drain life and raise undead.  Throw in some debuffs and I have a sort of antipaladin type... guy.  It isn't necessary no, it just adds more options to play style.
Of course if I had my way there wouldn't be classes at all.

Image IPBImage IPBFair enough.  I'm speaking more for gameplay reasons, but if you factor in RP value, then everything is worthwhile to someone, sometime.

You actually admitted something intelligent!?:o What are you doing on the interwebs??:kissing:

But for serious, though I will miss the AW (what can I say, I like chucking fireballs into groups of people, then jumping in and stabbing the ones that get up... and then shooting the big ones that are still up full of lightning...)... Considering mages have melee options in DA2, it can still be done... ish. And too bad for the quirky SS....

Only three specializations has me worried though. The only specialization I am only remotely interested in at this point is Force Mage. Could we have a little light brought in on this?

force mage....uhm, force is the multiplier for knockback. Force Mage might be the equivalent of a ME adept keeping crowd control through knocking people around.

Shapeshifter gone? Good riddance it was probably the most hated spec of any in DAO except for that 1 guy that did all those walkthroughs as a shapeshifter, which was an entertaining read though it must be said.

I will miss AW but I expected this and like Relhart said mage is moving close to being an AW warrior anyway so if you want it just spec your character accordingly.

There were only three mage specializations in DAO, though.

There was not and never shall be any Shapechange specialization and nothing you say or do will make me admit otherwise.

Arcane Warrior, Spirit Healer, Blood Mage and Shapeshifter. They dropped us down by one.

Hmm... I gues I might be misremembering changing into a giant spider... or was it a bear... no, it might have been a swarm of biting and stinging goodness.  Or was I hallucinating.

Yeah but they're each going to have more spells.

Clearly you were having a seizure brought on by Morrigan disapprovaing over your reluctance to beat orphans to death with burning cats.

Please, consult your physician.

I am more disappointed in Shape Shifter being cut, now that was a Spec with some serious potential. Instead of making it better it got the Mako treatment. I now believe that Morrigan needs to come back more than ever.

I haven't been following DA2 as closely as I did for Origins, so has word been released regarded the classes of Warriors and Rogues?

You would not happen to know of one off hand.  I might not be well.:crying:

But I thought I did smack around a few orphans with incendiary felines just for Morrigan's approval.

As for more spells in the new specializations, that is all well and good.  I am all for a greater quantity of spells, but personally, I don't like two of the three specializations we have now.

Spirit Healer is my favorite! I'm glad they kept that. I never really used Arcane Warrior....I don't think I ever did actually.

So we get two specializations out of three? Hmmm...

Meh, mages shouldn't be swinging swords anyway. It's un-natural.

Hmmm I liked Arcane Warrior, but Spirit Healer = win. Everytime I read about Force Mage I can't help but think about a Mage using throw or pull.

Yeah, it gives me flashbacks to my Psionicist from Allods.

Here I thought AW is still available in DA2 after watching all these trailers where Hawke acted similar to an AW.

Batlle mages are so fun.   What is better than freezing someone and then getting your own shatter?  It's especially disappointing after seeing the Rise to Power trailer.  I take it that the staff melee attack is going to be pretty pitiful.

There's always Skyrim.  It's a long time til November, though.

I'm more sorry to see Shapeshifter go -- it was broken, but they should have fixed it rather than dropping it -- it was central enough to lore that not having it seems wrong.

Does that mean we'll get to flay people alive... with our mind? Image IPB I couldn't resist. Please don't hit me, I bruise easily.

Maybe we'll find and unlock more specials as we play the game, perhaps similar to DAO? I've had my heart set on playing a shape-shifting blood mage on my first playthrough. :( If I can't shape-shift, I'll just mope for awhile in public; Carver will yell at me for acting like a spoilt child; Fenris will facepalm and follow it with a headdesk; last, but certainly not least, Varric will stand a good fifteen feet behind me and shout to passersby, "I've never seen this woman in my life! Honest!"
