LURadio you need to get wrex's sidequest for his grandfather's armor. Once you get that, go to the planet where it is kept. Kick some npc butt, find the armor, return to the Normandy, hand it over to wrex and viola his sidequest is complete. then when you go to virmire you can calm him down using that tactic if your charm isn't high enough.

BTW I always saved wrex.

My friends know pretty well about my first run in Virmire. I did not talk to any of my teammates except Liara or Kaiden because I thought they were hothothot (can't remember who I romanced first). So I did no side missions. My first femshep was a soldier tank and so I invested little to no points in charm/intimidate.

Then Virmire came along,  Wrex had a ****fit and got shot dead by Ashley. I raged and never liked Ashley till I romanced her in my only paragon run. It was pretty fun now that I remember it, but I was livid.

Now the first thing I do it put all my points in charm or intimidate. Lesson learned. :P

I didn't even know that he was supposed to die until I bought the ME 2. I play as peacefully as I can, so my paragon is always maxed out at the end.

I saved Wrex using my charm on my first ever play through. I had no idea that he could die and was playing through in complete ignorance (I'm new to Mass Effect, but have managed to play through the first game completely spoiler free; bought it on a whim during the Steam sale and I am VERY happy).

I'd been using Wrex a good amount for his shotgunning and biotic abilities, so I actually wanted him alive and on my side.

Really? He's useless in my opinion. I die more with him than with anyone else.

I had him and Garrus with me for that battle and pretty much the rest of the game, and between his biotics and shotgun, and Garrus and I with our tech and assault rifles (I was playing as an Infiltrator), nothing stood before us for more than a few seconds. Even Saren dropped fairly quickly and without too much hassle from us (in fact, Garrus was the one to go down more often; Wrex did really well in that between his shotgun and his biotics).

Oddly, I did find Wrex to be useless for a lot of the early game, but after I upgraded his biotic amp and gave him some decent armor (haven't actually done the quest to get *his* armor; will do that on my new character build) and an awesome shotgun, he tore things up.

I haven't really found any one character completely useless, but I'd say the one I use the least is Kaiden. But, I digress...

Hmm... Maybe I'm just not a very crude player. I keep a distance from any conflict at all if I can help it (though playing on veteran makes that impossible). I like Liara and Garrus with me being a tech or biotic. Sheild batteries (and that other thing that increases shields) are enough to keep them alive outside of cover while I shoot down the enemies.

Just the fact that this discussion can be brought up and sustained for so long when there are so many in-game interactions similar to this one is really a testament to the genius of Bioware. Developers of the decade!

My first time through ME I was totally clueless about Virmire and Wrex, fortunately even though I didn't get his armor back I had enough Charm points to talk him down then and every other playthrough since. I refuse to get Wrex killed off.

I saved him in my first play through. He was one of my regular companions and I really enjoyed him and his grumpiness. I plan on saving him again. I was somewhat erked when I had to start ME2 without a transfer file and discovered the default scenario has him dead. So I look forward to seeing the changes on Tuchanka between him being dead and him having united the clans.

A friend gave me a heads-up about maxing my charm and doing his sidequest, so yes, I saved Wrex.

To be honest, the first time around I didn't realize that there was a way to have him die other than to have Ashley snipe him, which didn't make sense to me at the time, so I just talked him down. It wasn't until later that I found out that I wouldn't have had the option to talk him down if I hadn't saved up enough charm points.

I did because I helped him to get his armor... I didn't even knew that he could die the 1st time around.

I never knew he could die until I saw it on youtube. Only had him die once in my pure renegade pt that I don't enjoy.

I think the one time I killed him, it was on purpose because I wanted to see how it plays out, and then I still said "F it", reloaded the last save and made sure he didn't die.

I didn't know that we could save him. Kinda shocked when Ash killed him. But I'm not his greatest fan, anyway.

I did. On one of my later playthroughs, I learned how to save him without having to use an alignment dialog choice. I don't know...maybe persuasiveness plays a role, even with non-alignment dialog choices, because it got to where I had to make an effort to get Ashley to kill him on her own.

I did even despite not doing Wrex's personal quest. My first game I put a lot of points into both charm and intimidate. It was pretty easy to talk him down.

Honestly, I poured most of my points into Charm for most of the game, plus I just happened to do his sidemission before I went to Virmire, so I did it my first time. Was surprised that it unlocked an achievement.

When I found out he could die, I was kinda surprised and upset. I've saved him ever since, but I've got a few playthroughs where I MAY wind up killing him.
