I knew about Wrex (and Kaiden/Ashley) dying before my first playthrough. I did his armor quest beforehand.

I put the points into charm because I like playing silver-tounged devils who can talk themselves out of anything.

I was just wondering how many of you have actually prevented Wrex from dying in your first playthrough of Mass Effect. Whether it be through doing his sidequest or charming/intimidating him.

Edit: Also what was your reaction when you saw Wrex die or first heard he could die?

--Raises hand--

As player of previous BIOWARE games, I was aware that it was important to raise Charm/Persuade/Whatever in order to beat the "convince" test, and that said test would have big implications if not passed.

I only killed him in my last playthrough just to see how it looked...

Wrex is the greatest krogan ever born. I would have sacrificed everyone in my team to save him (except Liara).

Didn't have the charm, but was able to save him first time thanks to his sidequest.

Pretty sure I saved him the first time.

Of course with my very first playthrough I ended up re-starting before I got to Virmire (even before leaving the Citadel) since I missed the importance of Charm/Intimidate skills and how much you needed to invest. So I believe the very first time I got to Virmire I managed to Charm him. Though generally now I just do his armor quest before hand, unless I'm doing a really fast playthru.

I don't think Wrex has ever died on any of my playthroughs ever. I would literally have to intentionally do it on purpose, which I likely never will. If I wanna see what happens with Wrex dead I'll just use a fresh ME2 character.

My first playthrough I went crazy with the paragon skills as I didn't want to miss anything. It's a good thing I did, too, as I kept Wrex alive. I have every time too, whether I did his side mission or not, aside from my evil play-through where I killed him myself.

I didn't save him my first playthrough, not for a lack of trying. I reloaded that part of the game multiple times to see if there was any combination of replies that could save him without the charm/intimidate score.

Needless to say Ash was left behind on Virmire after she shot Wrex.

Did the same there. I wasn't too pleased with her killing Wrex.

It was pretty easy. By now if you don't know to go on someone's side quest and put points in to speech in a WRPG...

I saved him during my first playthrough, as my Shepard had already done his personal quest and he was a paragon character.

I did intentionally kill him during a renegade playthrough once.

A friend told me he had no option but to kill him in his first playthrough because he didn't bother talking with him until that moment.

Did Wrex's loyalty mission before Virmire. Said I did more for him than his whole family and he trusted me. It was win.

I did, but only because I had played ME2 first. I bought ME1 specifically to save Wrex.

First play thru and all subsequent plays I saved Wrex. It was purely accidental Shep was able to talk him down. I had completed his personal mission thru exploring the universe, landing on planets hating the Mako etc.

Wrex was a standard mate, I liked his offensive abilities. Suddenly there is the cut scene when we hit the "hideout". I had no clue as to what had he was talking about nor the impact the event would have on Virmire.

Without Wrex, Krogan become two dimentional warmongers in ME2.... in my opinion.

Everytime I've played ME1 I've saved him :0)

My first run, I was doing it for the main plot, lasted only about 12 hours. Because I was so focused on getting Saren, I neglected to talk to any of my crew. I read no reviews and knew no spoilers, so everything was new to me.

Needless to say, wrex died. :( I was way more torn up about it than the choice between Ashley and Kaidan. Even as I watched Kaidan die in a torrent of nuclear fire, all i could think of was how I had failed Wrex :(

I have saved him every time since.

I did. But I'm a completionist. Before I even went to Feros or Noveria I did every other mission you could in the game. I liked the exploring aspect. Plus I like extra dialogue, so my initial adept had like 12 charm and 6 Intimidate by the end of the game. Wrex didn't have a chance. I had his family armor and the charm to talk him down. The second decision on Virmire caught me off guard. I had picked Tali and Garrus as my squadmates though, so it wasn't as bad as it could be.
