When moving the mouse around the menu the mouse leaves trails where the background is and these mouse trails flicker.

How to fix?

Sounds like your video card is giving you trouble. Take a look at this thread.

Demonstration of the bug when using 2D and 3D modes.

Yeah, this is a common issue with Nvidia cards. Did you see the thread I linked to? It contains various fixes that may help you resolve the issue:

I dug up another thread on the old BioBoards that might be useful, too:

I went through the first post of the first link and none of it resolves my issue, the 2nd link mentions and links to a Nhancer profile, Nhancer doesn't work on drivers newer then 250.xx.

Sorry, didn't know nHancer's now obsolete. Other than that, I don't know what to recommend. A lot of people report success using Microsoft's Compatibility Administrator and 'ForceDirectDrawEmulation.'

The only other thing I can say is to make sure you're not forcing anything from the Nvidia control panel (e.g., triple buffering is a known offender), but you likely already know that.

Franpa, go back to the first link, page 5, 2nd last post by 'eddy'.

Also that happens when you use an unsupported resolution.

From the Readme:

Note that I DO NOT RECOMMEND to use this patch with Baldur's Gate 2

Now you might not have realized I was talking about this game but it's the only one I know of that uses a hardware accelerated 3D mode (OpenGL).

My monitor/video card support all the video modes that the game can use.

Edit: The patch doesn't apply even if I wanted to either since the game isn't supported by it and thus the patcher stops it self.

I don't use the widescreen mod. I do however use version 2.5.26461 of the game, not sure what the latest version number is. (Is it 26498?)

Thats the ToB patch.

Its definetly a resolution problem, before my first response, i installed a fresh copy of bg2 soa n tob and ran it on a few different resolutions, when i tryed 1280 by 960, i got the same exact thing in the videos that were linked.

How do you work the Widescreen mod? I install it to my games folder, run it and tell it:

English

No readme

For the original infinity engine

1920

1080

and it keeps asking for the last two options in an endless loop. game continues to run at 1600x1200.

Have you patched your game? Widescreen won't install otherwise.

Yes, you're right. I'd completely forgotten all about the 'unsupported' resolutions. The only unsupported mode that has ever worked consistently for me is 1024x768.

Delete it form ur bg2 directory. Launch the application from somewhere else, tell it to install in the BG2 directory, press option 1, the one it tells you to..then it wil ask for for x coordinate...then y. So if u want 1920 by 1080....first one is x, second is y.

If it keeps asking you then on a loop...wait till it does its thing for the last coordinate and just exit it and use the BG2 configure option and choose the first unsupported resolution, 1024 by 768.

Btw if u still want to use that high resolution...it wil work, but u will notice the game screen becomes a box and becomes smaller with black areas filling the gap from the box, to the edge of ur monitory screen.

My max resolution is 1440 by 900, but i use the same as sponge, 1024 by 768...game still looks great.

Franpa, there's a bug in v3.00 of the Widescreen mod. If you haven't already seen it, the workaround can be found here.

All you need to do is apply the change in
widescreen/lib/get_dim.tpa
, and then install as usual.

Thanks a butt load, that works perfectly and the games engine doesn't decide to be a dick with the 1920x1080 resolution either. Like with 1600x1200 it should work fine as I run other games at that fine yet the Infinity Engine fails at that resolution.

End result: No glitchy menu and I can live with it being centered/not scaled.

Edit: What are Jarno Mikkola's for? I don't follow his explanation for his changes that well or how to implement them.

Trying to change the resolution via the Wide Screen MOD doesn't seem to work after the initial change to 1920x1080. Now the game stays at 1920x1080 regardless of resolution I set via the Wide Screen MOD. Heck uninstalling the MOD doesn't let the resolutions available via the games configuration tool work either.

I'm after trying 1600x900 as I find everything a bit too small at 1920x1080.

Here is a log from me uninstalling the MOD, uninstallation does not seem to work as I can not use BGConfig to choose a resolution anymore, it is stuck on 1920x1080.

Man just do a fresh install of BG2...use the resolutions in the config....or download widescreen from another website.

Can't say I understand what's going on, either. The debug log looks fine. At this point, I agree with ZombieChow—try restoring a clean installation and re-installing Widescreen.

Here are some instructions for building and maintaining a clean install, so you can avoid further frustration in the future.

The Widescreen mod has also been updated to v3.01, so you can install that from scratch, too.
