Shouldn't Bioware reveal something about "bonus character" before SE preorder expires?

That would give people time to mull it over. A short deadline means impulse decisions. I guess they believe the second scenario will provide a higher number of preorders.

This assumes the companion is exclusive to the preorder. Not sure why people are assuming that.

Played by Robin Sachs.

Who was betrayed by his partner and shot in the face with an arrow, thus the scar.

It has been announced as a Signature Edition Exclusive feature, unless I misunderstood the signature edition presentation. The preorder automatically upgrades the regular edition to Signature, no charge added.
That's why I made the assumption.

That was kind of implied.

Of course, I have no doubt it will eventually be widely available, but still.

I allways figured we would get some code with the game, like we got for Shale in the first game.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's how it will work.

but the implication - or at least, how I understood it - was that the bonus content was exclusive to the pre-order SE.

Yeah, because really the main incentive to preorder is the character. If the character is just going to be in with all new copies like Shale or Zaeed anyway, then I don't care too much about some weapons and the soundtrack.

Where did you read that? The only item listed as exclusive on the site is the 'digital armory.'

As long as he's still voiced by Robin Sachs, I would be totally fine with this. And I never even used Zaeed.

And lo, an angel of the night appeared before them... and as the forum threads parted, thus was born unto them, a babe - and the fangirls rejoiced.  So it was written, so will they beg for romanceable options with high maturity settings and great tension....

Uh, so I am basically down with the hardass bounty hunter and mercenary thing.   You know, in the name of lore and all that.

True.  I couldn't care less about the soundtrack or a fancy box.

The weapons, somewhat.  But I do want the character, and the mission, which I fully expect to be reminiscent of Shale.

Only thing to bear in mind there, is that Shale was not originally intended to be DLC.

Shale was cut from the game due to issues (due to not being able to fit through doors), then re-worked and re-added at the last minute via DLC.

Already having a bonus character planned, is a different scenario altogether. ;)

Though you'll probably find it's made available in some form at some point.

That which is listed as 'exclusive' is exclusive.

And the name RAD! Don't forget that ;).

On a slightly related note, I named my Origins Human 'Manly Cousland'. I nearly died laughing the first time he went "I am Manly. Pleased to meet you"

Awesome! I'm totally for a fangirl rivalry between Varric and RAD. I think I'll throw my fanboy support behind RAD though, as he's revealed much the same time I arrive at the forums :-P

Quoted from the promotion

Contains the full version of Dragon Age II plus $20 of additional content including:

  • A download code for a bonus playable character and missions
  • Downloadable game soundtrack
  • Exclusive in-game digital armory featuring multiple weapons
  • Additional downloadable items

The italized part makes me believe that the companion, while available outside the Signature Edition, will have to be bought separately as downloadable content.
Though I admit, the wording is tricky enough to be misleading.

Well either the playable character or the additional downloadable items will be part of what is given to everyone like Shale and Zaeed for the bonus day one DLC. Given the two examples, I would lean towards the playable character.  Whichever it is, they do have a value since it will be something that could be bought by second hand owners and would be included in that $20 of additional content.

The full version of DA:O did not include Shale. The full version of ME 2 did not include Zaeed. Those are both DLC worth $15 given to people who buy the game new.

I'm guessing:
The four items <- Exclusive to SE
Bonus character/quests <- Day 1 DLC or new copy
Soundtrack <- Full soundtrack on Amazon
Additional downloadables <- The DA 2 version of Cerberus Network

I never paid for Shale.  I had a code for her and it came with my CE of DAO.  Acutally, she came with two of our editions.  The pc version and the PS3 CE version, along with the Blood Dragon Armor set.  Then I got a promotional item (a dagger) when I registered my game.

That sounds about right. They'd hardly put a value on what you're getting, unless they planned on selling it to regular owners later or  from the start.

It also seems rather unlikely to go to the trouble create an entire exclusive companion and associated side missions for the SE people. They might as well make money from people who want it later with a used copy.

And the four items do seem like the only actually exclusive things

Yes, but if you had gotten a second hand copy of DAO, that code would have been used and you would have had to pay for Shale seperately.
