Shouldn't Bioware reveal something about "bonus character" before SE preorder expires?

No matter how amazingly written, character might still be unappealing because of personality, appearance or combat role. And in this case, it makes a difference between pre-ordering for full price and waiting for a sale/Ultimate edition.

If you plan on getting this game, and I figure most who frequent its forum months before its release do, then buy the SE.

It costs the same and has extra things in it. I see no reason to whine. There is no downside.

The special items are just silly as a boon.

If I want overpowered weapons early on, I can just find some mods.

Only on PC. And some people, like ,yself, prefer a particular console. And I want overpowered weapons. I miss times when you could have real cheats in games, like god mode, noclip mode... Anyway, big part of appeal of an RPG for me is the sense of being incredibly, ridiculously overpowered.

I agree and we on consoles can't mod like you PC players can. (Atleast not easily.)

Well, there is a downside. With all the info unveiled so far about the game itself, I'm on a fence between buying it soon (SE or not), and just waiting for a price to drop/Ultimate edition with all extras. The information about bonus companion might be just what I need to make a decision.
Though, of course, I understand that Bioware is unlikely to reveal anything, so people would buy for fear of missing content. I know I'm driven to.

The whole signature edition thing sounds like a marketing scam. And it works. They (EA) don't even have to release a finished or polished game if they can get enough people to pre-order, without them even knowing what they get.

And it is sold as extra content for free, yay!

With so many games being released where parts are obviously missing from the normal edition (unavailable areas, open companion spaces etc.) it looks more like special offers like this or additional DLC are the only way to get the actual full game as it was intended, specially when the content is already finished at the release date.

There is no word on how much additional playtime the content has that will be blocked out for normal buyers, or how much impact it will have on the story, or what kind of extra character it has. It is just some marketing words thrown out there to make more people pre-order blindly on good faith.

Of course it's marketing. For the rest of us too smart to fall for the trick, there's always the option to wait for the eventual all-DLC-in Ultimate Edition equivalent with a price drop that may or may not take up to a year or more worth of waiting.

Riiiiight.  Because refusing to preorder means you're intelligent.  Whatever.

Me, I believe in putting my money where my mouth is.  I've been having a blast with all the Dragon Age stuff thus far, and I'm quite happy to pre-order and show my support.  I put a lot of money into a select few games instead of picking up a bunch of games on the cheap shelves.  It's been paying off for me lately--when I actually follow games and get only the ones that show real promise, I have a lot of fun.

Heck, I spent over $200 for Oblivion if you count the graphics card I had to buy to play the damn thing.  And it was totally worth it.  Plus, hey, new graphics card.

Hmm, maybe I'll preorder ANOTHER copy for my housemate for Christmas.

Capitalism! It sort-of works!

The preorder bonus is an incentive offered to early adopters. It is not a "trick." It presents you with an alternatively superior cost-benefit option at an increased level of risk. Take it or leave it.

Personally I'm trying to reduce that risk by holding off on preordering until Jan 10.  That way I will have the most potential information possible before the deadline before making a decision.  It's still going to be a calculated risk, like any early adoption.

You know you're going to buy the game. Everyone knows you're going to buy it. Why pretend there's a chance of you not buying it?

I agree with this, it would be nice to know a little more about this special preorder character before the preorder deadline expires.

I mean, even though I already did preorder.

Good call. We should reveal something, in fact. It would be a good move. ;)

I'm betting that the DLC character is Anders. it's obviously a mage based on the outline.

Well, just going by the characters we already know and what we didn't see in DA:O, I'd expect a female elf and a qunari to be announced. The special character could be one of them. I'd expect a qunari to be available in the base game though, considering that the qunari invasion is part of the plot.
