Which NPCs Do You Wish You Could Hire On as Normandy Crew?

I think Lia’Vael, the quarian girl who was getting harassed by C-Sec and Kor Tun, would make a good addition to the crew. The girl claims to have experience in EVA repair work, a good skill set to have on a ship like the Normandy.
Also I think Conrad Verner would make a good addition to the crew. He could start off as Mess Sergeant Gardner’s assistant, and work his way up from there.
Despite his persona, Conrad Verner is not without value. He did manage to organize and run a fairly prominent charity organization, not “galaxy changing” stuff by any means, but still notable. That and the shear fact that the man was able to survive for two years poking his nose into Shepard’s life is frankly impressive, though they say God watches over fools and children. Either way, it’d be a good idea to have him around, he could very well be the Normandy’s albatross!
Who do you think would be valuable or useful additions to the Normandy?

I guess that the Normandy is pretty much perfectly balanced as is, or that none of the NPC's really stood out enough for me to consider hiring them.

Shiala is boring and Giana Parasini has a cool job where she is.

She'd make a great Master-at-Arms!
Someone to maintain good order and discipline aboard ship and coordinate the remaining crew to repel boarders during those times when every single combat squadmate piles into the Kodiak and flies away for some reason.

Other than that: The Asari from the Citadel souvenir shop. She seems to know how to keep fish alive.

Agreed. Now that TIM hates me, Conrad would be indispensible to me as PR guy and fundraiser. He can work with Kelly to develop a galactic fundraising campaign. Also, putting him under Gardner would be beneficial in getting him to learn what *real work* is like.General User wrote...

I was orphaned at a young age, so I never really had a mom. Aethyta could be my mom.Aigyl wrote...
Matriarch Aethtya (spelling?), the Asari Bartender on Illium to tend the Normandy bar. Kasumi is hoarding all the drinks for herself damnit.

Elnora. She seems redeemable, and I'd find a plot involving that rather interesting.
Or further corruptible for those Renegades who didn’t shoot her.

Urz - Just because my Shepards might want a pet that they can interact with, instead of just look at through a glass box. Urz could be similar to Dog in DAO, except he wouldn't come along on missions. Conversations that involve Urz wandering around the Normandy and interacting with the squadmates or other crew members have the potential to be hilarious.
Random store owners - The ones who get along well enough with Shepard, of course. In ME1, there was an Alliance guy who sold armor, weapons, upgrades, etc. to Shepard right there on the Normandy, so trips to the Citadel weren't always necessary. There isn't as much need for it now with the inventory change (and I like the change), but it could be cool.
Rana Thanoptis(?) - Is that the name of the asari who worked in Saren's lab in ME1, and then Okeer's lab in ME2? If she has any research that could be useful to Shepard, it might be interesting to have her around as a scientist, sort of like Mordin but without the squadmate status.

This. Aethyta is awesome, and she'd make a good surprise for Liara.

The NPCs that I want to bring along would be squadmates rather than crew - Kal'Reegar and Aria, as others have already suggested. There are a few others that would be nice to have around though.

These are really good ideas!
Every ship should have a mascot like Urz.
Rana Thanoptis would make a GREAT lab assistant for Mordin! Wouldn’t hurt to have her some where you could keep an eye on her either…
Even if they aren’t dealing with licenses and such, every ship needs Store Keepers’ Mates to track all sorts of supplies a warship goes through, food, tools, etc. And the chaps from Rodham Expeditions and Sardonis Applications seem like eager, experienced, decent blokes to me too!

Yeah, a few store owners on the Normandy would have been helpful towards the beginning of the game when they wanted Shepard to buy food and some other upgrades, rather than looking around the Citadel for it all. I can see the turian store owner joining a Shepard who saves the Council, but not one who doesn't (because he really seems to hate Shepard for that). There was a quarian who had his own shop too, and one of the other store owners was giving him a hard time. Was that on Omega? Shepard could have brought that guy and his supplies along.

Aria -- Would be interesting as well. I'd be eager to hear/see her interactions with Samara. Although I don't know of any reason for her to join, she seems to have all she wants on Omega.
