I'll point out here that some of the people asking for elven love interests were on the DA boards before DA:O even came out asking for elven love interests. They're a bit like the fantasy equivalent of men who have a thing for Asian women because they're supposedly feminine and submissive.

It has nothing to do with cultural conflicts in the setting and everything to do with a specific personal preference.

I'm not saying that you're this way, but there is a specific group of posters are adamant that they *cannot* enjoy a romance with humans and that they only way they could be happy is if the love interest is of a specific race. I understand the writers not being happy with that.

Oh, yeah, and I understand that (edit: what you're saying/what the writers are unhappy about, not the elf kink bit) completely. I'm not trying to argue, persay, but more to point out that not everyone is coming from the same place. So to discount it all equally is a little unfair/ intellectually dishonest, and using a straw man. I love human LI, enjoy exploring all LI options usually, but it's really based on personality of PC and personality of LI and how they go together.

One of my favorite quotes: "To argue against an idea honestly, you should argue against the best arguments of the strongest advocates.  Arguing against weaker advocates proves nothing, because even the strongest idea will attract weak advocates."

Love interests being another race does not inherently make them more interesting.
It's how you use the fact that they're not human.

This is it, exactly.

I don't think he really cares or notices. For awhile, I referred to him as G-Dawg.

The reason people want inhuman romances is because they cannot have inhuman romances in real life, (at least nothing that legal anyways)

Or maybe because people want to play with the dynamic of inter-racial coupling that they are unwilling to actually do in real-life because of social stigmas that come along with it.

I think there are various different reasons that people like romancing non-humans in a game, you can't really simplify it to one reason.

It's Taboo to date an elf in real life???

..no I mean, some couplings IRL are taboo (I don't want to get into a religious/political discussion here) just as some relationships are taboo or unpopular in Thedas.

Anyway I love how you managed to ignore the point of my post altogether with your silly assumption.

That is a start

I think Isabela would want to know about people's stances on Elf/Human or even furry relations if they are using Hawke to court her or as a reason not to court her

Perhaps the pair of nugs will make a reappearance? *privately hopes not*

I see this Hawke could potentially have some Demon's to excercise

Given Aveline's background surely she musnt' feel too keen on this aspect

I'm just trying to make all these thread plot holes not plot holes and fully answered!

I doubt Isabela would want any plot holes affecting her ship

This thread is about Isabella and Aveline

Sheryl and Lukus both stay in hiding while David and Mary frequently roam the forums.

Winter Wraith wrote...

And how did Aveline find herself in the position to need to try benchpressing a cow?

Aveline frequently attempts to lift and benchpress things. It's one of the reasons her idle animation when Varric is in the party is so funny.

I didn't ignore it. You said people want to act on taboos in the game that they feel in the real world. Which is a broader extent of what I said.

You are not fogiven this easily, first write 100 times "I am a devious developer who trolled people for not agreeing with my opinion about RPG romance preferences, also, dwarves are awesome."

Take it to fanfic, spanky.

Image IPB

I never got the obsession with video game romances, myself. It's an interesting distraction sometimes, but it's not exactly srsbsns. If you don't like any of the love interests, there's always the brothel. Or something like that. Maybe I'm in the minority.

I can't speak for others but I did write some minor novels that got published and played RPG for more than a decade, and I also like Star Trek and some other stuff I won't begin to list here.

Ergo: as said speaking for my little old me alone, I take game romance just as much seriously as anything else in games: culture background, wealth of character, upbringing, race, gender or racial inequality in the setting, preverences and phobias of a character, and in scifi ship types  and on greater scale galactical entity (empire, federation, ect) resource and planet control is also added to list

In short: I do take this also seriously just as any other of the listed things but only as far a game can go without getting back at you negatively in RL, you won't see me nerdrage over that a Star Trek ship doesn't look as it is "supposed to do", neither will you see me cosplay at conventions (although I do admire those who actually look good while cosplaying), and definetly you won't see me try to mix up reality with fiction, but yes I will also join the group that speaks up for more diversity and non-human romance in games and stories of various kind

and yes, I do think elves and dwarves are awesome (but I also think medusas, leprechaunts, satyrs and fairies are too)

Isabela totally understands the desire to try something new and taboo. Aveline doesn't understand how anyone could find elves attractive but totally gets the appeal of dwarves. That said, she sticks to humans.

Ah, no, I doubt that either, but I care. I haven't found a way that doesn't feel clumsy to use.

Is it really so much weirder than to say one likes europeans/asians/blacks/blondes/redheads and considers them to be more interesting and "tromancable" than others?

Not really, but if a friend of mine said that he thought a girl he doesn't know must be boring because "she's not Asian" I would still call him a freak.

sure that is true, but there is no harm done in having expectations based on experience or just pure whims

a guy who prefers blonde US girls is still not unlinkely to fall in love with a brown haired european girl, it only becomes freaky if that guy dismisses any possibility to get together with anyone else than just blondes from US origin or maybe even harasses people

PS: you know, you're not that bad a discussion partner once you stop posting flamebait on arrival   =]
