No, some of them are aimed at young girls. The story might involve them being a new student at a school where there are a bunch of cute boys. They'll have to learn what each boy likes and then attract him. It might end up with a kiss and one of them declaring true love.

Others are hardcore porn, horror, or mystery games.

But it has dating sim elements. It may be an RPG but that does not limit it to being more than just that.

My take on this is roughly the same, but I might phrase it a little differently. RPGs, and particularly Bioware RPGs, are ultimately about story. The gameplay is largely a (very important) vehicle for progressing within the framework of the plot. Inside the context of a story (Especially ones where young attractive characters are thrown together in trying circumstances), it's perfectly plausible (and extremely probably) that romantic attachments and entanglements would develop. Therefore, the inclusion of romances is merely good storytelling, and since player agency is a primary attribute of RPGs it makes sense to have various options. Once options are introduced, it's reasonable to expect the player to desire choices that correspond to their individual preferences.

Now, how they might choose to express those desires, or their disapproval of the presented options, is another matter, as is how effective that expression might be. I will agree with the point that threatening to not buy the game based upon the romance options seems a little extreme, but everyone values and weights the various components of a game differently.

Sign me up for the neither camp. Isabela, much like Zevran, is the type of person I don't enjoy to be around in real life so I'll leave her in the corner. I'll give Bioware the benefit of doubt on Aveline as their characters have surprised me countless times. I think my Hawke will join my ME1 Shepard and 1 of 3 wardens in not forming that sort of relationship which will probably not affect my enjoyment of the game in the slightest as I didn't like the female options in DA:O either and still enjoyed the game.

Better about Sir Jory. Oh wait, he's married, so...single. Seriously though, I don't get how you folks can be drawing a line in the sand when you've never even spoken to Aveline. Okay, Isabella might not be to everyone's taste, but we know nothing but good things about Aveline. And given the writers, she may well have an unexpected sense of humor.

I think some people aren't mad about getting non-human love interests in order to get interested in the game, it's just that they would like the offer available to them. The characters in dragon age with different races often have different cultures and ethics, making them have different views on life that other players would be interested in romancing someone like that.

Or maybe that's just me? Personally I had no problems with Leliana and Morrigan both being human I was just glad they held different views to add to the experience.

A non human one outside the party if I'm lucky. I don't like Isabellas lip-piercing nor her likelihood to have Thedas AIDs. Although my Warden did her though, he survived the taint so AIDs won't kill him anyway. Aveline is a bit to masculine for my tastes, buffed out badass warrioress with a dead husband. I also don't like the idea of only having 2 LI's, BOTH OF WHICH ARE HUMAN YET AGAIN! They could have made Leliana an elf. I liked the fact Morrigan was a human, matched her personality. But Leliana was a rogue that used her charm to lure her marks, so being an elf would have made her more attractive. But I'm rambling. In short, I want a non-human LI. Perhaps an elf or qunari

I dunno, you can get something of a sense of people by their looks. Hence when people say things like, "I didn't expect his voice to be so high," or "I didn't expect him to be so soft-spoken" or whatever. They got a sense of what the person was like based on looks, which in this case ended up being wrong, but it generally isn't.

And I wasn't lacing that expectation with derision or anything, I just thought it was humorous.

Heh, I know. And I know what you mean, I just think it's a little harder to tell when people are pixels who are specifically written to be interesting.
