A History in Easter Eggs
Easter eggs have been done, and been successful - i.e. the bizarre dopefish in 3d realms games(as well as the first 2 quake games). Bungie especially are infamous for their subtle red herrings - The Scarab Gun, Talking grunts in the maw, the skulls, and the literal fan base in Halo reach are some examples. Adding them into a somewhat more linear experience, how does one keep them well-hidden? Many of bungie’s easter eggs besides the scarab gun were all put on the hardest difficulty - Although not the most creative way to do things, it certainly prevented a lot of people from losing the immersion from the experience.
Tailored to Miss. Bee W.
One element that is specifically tailored to any bioware-developed product is the involvement of relationships and player choice. I’d say that could make for some cleverly designed conditions: Say in ME2, an easter egg would be triggered if you let absolutely no one unnecessarily die due to player choice or intervention(Maelon, Mordin’s assistant, your crew). That’s only an example by the way, it doesn’t unlock anything, particularly in the collector base mission, where you’re under biotic protection from a squad member. >_>. Anyways, I’d like to hear some fresh ideas from the minds of the other forum-goers online, I’ll throw an idea out to give you an example.
The Reaper Gun
Yep, you may have known this was coming. This should probably be built for those who have already beaten Mass Effect 3, or at least be restricted to one particular mission like the original Scarab Gun. Remember good old Glowy-Eye Reaper Larva? He shot some serious hadoukens. Well, combine the massive blast from the human-reaper hybrid with the futuristic equivalent of a pea shooter, and you’ve got yourself an easter egg.
Is this whole idea absurd? Well, that’s partially the idea with easter eggs, but let me know what you think in the comment box below. This would be an interesting opportunity to throw in a healthy dose of humor and fan kudos into a seriously potent game. Thanks for reading.
