It's a system that while limited in the TW games, could easily be expanded I think. Furthermore there's another strategy game by Paradox Interactive called Crusader Kings that is based mostly on running a medieval noble family, and takes that idea even further.

You can involve RPG elements fully within a tactical wargame. All that RPG elements are, effectively, is the dialogue interface and choice variabilty you have as a player.
When you put aside combat, what distinguishes Vampire:The Masquerade:Bloodlines, ME1, ME2, and DA:O? PC VO to an extent, but really it does not matter if you have an FPS, a semi-FPS, or a more traditional RPG. The RP element can be given exclusively via the dialogue system and character gen. system.

I also like the family dynamic aspect of it. It has been a long time since playing a game with a sibling (think they mentioned BG and Imoen and that really is the last time that I can remember.
Thanks for the link. Very good read.

As a kid? Wasn't Dynasty Tactics released in 2002?relhart wrote...
The first thing that popped into my head when I read it, (probaby because of all the Dynasty Warrior comparisons floating around this board) was Dynasty Warrior Tactics. Which, to those of you who didn't play it as a kid, was a story driven, cinimatic TBS.

In Shogun 2 they are expanding it as well. Or at least how you interact with them, I believe they said you could tell a general to commit seppeku or arrange them to be married into your family, etc. to help with loyalty.Upsettingshorts wrote...
The Total War series has generals and officials with traits and attributes that give them personality. They can range from fertility to battlefield competence to tax efficiency.

One of the many things that I'm really looking forward to. I'm 100% sure the AI won't live up to the hype, but anyone who is a devotee of that franchise probably sees that coming too.
Really the only thing I've heard about Shogun 2 that I don't like is how mod-unfriendly it's going to be. Shame.

Well maybe, keep in mind I'm 25, I'm pretty sure it was a PS1 game however. Maybe I'm misremembering when I played it.
Edit, Ok, it's a PS2 game, and yes, 2002 was when it was released.

Was that the subtitle before the decision was made to go without one?

Why is there no subtitle for this entry in the series?
Mike Laidlaw: [...] we said, "Let's call it Dragon Age 2 and then if we do expansions, it'll be Dragon Age 2: Blah.
What? What happened to "Dragon Age 2: Rise to Power"?

Interestingly, about the no subtitle part, I've seen some of the pre-order sites call it DA2: Exodus.

I can't remember where, but I'm pretty sure one of the devs did mention DA2 was known as DA2: Exodus for a while.

Fits the "rise to power" thing quite nicely, and it's good and short.

I can see Carver/Bethany calling you bro/sis, your mother calling you something adorably embarrasing, party members going by Hawke and most people by "hey, you" or, once Hawke gets his/her position, "Champion".
Besides, I liked being called Warden. It beats being called "duster scum".

MD: One of my long term goals for the Dragon Age franchise is to have it be one of those fantasy IPs that's up there with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter... That's a very grand thing and we're not going to get there tomorrow, but definitely more games in this vein, more games advancing the storyboard. We've got anime coming from Funimation, more linear stuff — comic books, books, things like that. But also other games around the peripherals... mobile stuff. I could easily imagine us doing some sort of strategy game in the future, especially if we want to get into very large, political stories where we have nations fighting against each other. So there's a lot still to be done.
so are we gonna get a Dragon Age anime now from funimation!? That would be awesome? Can someone tell me what they meant by that they got "anime coming from Funimation"? What will it be anybody know?
