Collectors Editions on the other hand are great for both...but I agree normal ones looked meh...

Personally, I wish they wouldn't use a marketing Shep - Dragon Age did perfectly fine without one :/  Interesting that they now have one for DA2...  I think ME might've set a precedent for Bioware RPG's in this regard...

The ME1 cover is pretty good actually. It captures the spirit of the game really well. ME2 cover art was ugly as hell so I got the collectors edition because of that.

Yeah, I see why a lot of people don't like it. In my opinion, though, I think John Shepard is somewhat of a symbol of the Mass Effect saga that could be associated with when discussing the topic of our favourite Commander. Customization is, of course, a must for the game, and an awesome option, there wouldn't be diversity otherwise. But for me, the default appearance of male Shepard will always be the one I associate the Commander with. It wouldn't be the same without one.

That wouldn't work for everyone though, that's the problem :P

I think they should be as inclusive as possible and try to leave Shep as ambiguous as possible e.g. offer female and male covers that we can choose from (without showing Shep's face for either).  Alternatively they could do what they did with the ME2 collector's edition cover, which was just a close up of the N7 armor (although I wish the marketing Shep wasn't shown on the tin case inside).

I'm Anti-Marketing Shepard. It cannonizes the game, and makes it weird for me to play as a non sheploo, which bugs me
