I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but I was browsing through Amazon.com and found the listing for the PC version of MASS EFFECT 3 as being for Mac as well as PC.

I wonder if this is an error in the listing or if this is something Bioware will be commenting on.

I didn't think anything ME was available for Mac. Would seem silly to bring the last episode of a trilogy to a new platform (for lack of better wording?)

right. actually, this question was up in Steam forum. there were several people argued. I just added my opinion. but it was silly that people expect mac version of mass effect no matter what. people still don't realize? mac is not got gaming. developers make games for money. it's simple. mac game doesn't make any money. so mac users stop saying non sense. even just take a look at Steam online store. how many new games you mac users can get it from? especially, 2009, 2010 games. none. if you want to play games, use bootcamp or get PC. don't complain. mac is good computer. but it is not for game.

I have a PC and I play Mass Effect 1 and 2, not to mention Dragon Age, on it. I'm asking the devs because I'm curious.

Don't turn this into another Mac vs. PC snarkfest. it's tedious.

I'm curious too. I use my Mac for just about everything but gaming.

The ones saying that Macs are not for gaming have a point though.
If you compare Macs and PCs in light of gaming, then PCs are where the money definately is as they are more widespread and the gfx-cards in Macs are often underclocked to achieve "silent running" in the system.
Not hating on Macs here, it's just a fact.

Unreal Engine 3 supports OpenGL so that it can run on Mac OS X, I believe. The OGL support is also needed for the PS3. It shouldn't be too much of a stretch that the game could be ported to OS X.

No, the main problem with gaming Macs is that there is no "mid range" system. By that, I mean a desktop that's in between the iMac (a somewhat underspec'd desktop) and the Mac Pro (a ridiculously high-spec'd desktop, including two processors, etc.). Still, UE3 isn't CryEngine 2. It runs well even on modest hardware.

It also seems to me that the people arguing that "Mac games won't sell!" are assuming that said games are Mac exclusives.

Steve Jobs doesn't like ME's romances.

They're "porn", apparently.

I was about to say "there's no reason why not to port it to OS X", but then you brought this up. Yeah. I forgot about Steve Jobs's infamous pickiness.

I know he's trying to be a good man, but my God, he's just trying too damn hard. It makes him look like... God, I dunno, just really, really, really annoyingly picky. :?

No wonder so many people think that Mac users all wear turtle-necks. :P

Don't care. I run ME1&2 both on MacBook Boot Camp. System spec is below minimum requirement for ME2 but performance is flawless. I hope BioWare don't port ME games into Mac. All Mac ports  of PC games suck.

They released Dragon Age II to be compatible with both - not a port but seemingly designed to be compatible with both from the start at launch. I suspect they're doing the same thing with ME3

Every so often I like to walk into a crowd and just totally out of nowhere shout, "Mac!"

It's the perfect idiot detection system that never fails to bait them into saying something ignorant and stupid.

For the record, I play Mass Effect 1 & 2 on my 27" (damn straight bigger is better) iMac.

I hope they will make it available on both platforms as they did for DA2.

Heh, pretty much. ;)  Right tool for the job, I always say ... that's why I use Macs, Windows machines, Linux, and BSD on a regular basis =P  BSD/Linux for back-end and network infrastructure, Macs for getting real work (music production / network administration) done, and Windows for ... playing games. =D

(Typing this on an iPad, surrounded by my Mac Mini server, FreeBSD NAS RAID, Mac Pro audio workstation, and self-built midtower "Hackintosh" (i.e. standard PC components with OS X running via some creative bootloading =P) ... the Hack dual-boots Win7, but that partition is solely for games, it's kinda like having an Xbox on a hard drive partition (with better graphics =) )

I think the only reason Mass Effect hasn't been on Mac yet is due to licensing issues with Microsoft. Remember that the first Mass Effect came out on Xbox 360 and PC and Microsoft wouldn't let EA bring ME1 to the PSN...at least not yet.

The truth of the matter is, only 6 games out the 22 that BioWare has made haven't been available for Mac...and besides MDK, Mass Effect is the only current one that's not available for Mac. Even Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age II are available for Mac. Heck, they've even said that Star Wars The Old Republic is going to be on Mac eventually. And, I'm sure Mass Effect will be available for Mac one day. If I were BioWare, though, I'd actually wait and market all three games as a box set for Mac.

Heck, BioWare's already made Mass Effect Galaxy for iOS. So, it's not like they don't have the means to bring the Mass Effect triology to Mac OS X. But, like I said, if I were them, I'd wait until ME3 was out and had all it's DLC and then make a Mass Effect Ultimate Edition that would include all three games plus their DLC content and have that be Mac OS X compatible.

Unless you're on an old Power PC based Mac, and let's face it you should have it in a glass case in a museum, just get yourself a decent graphics card (if your Mac doesn't have a decent one, and plenty came with pretty mediocre ones) and a copy of Windows so you can Boot Camp the sucker and buy PC games. Goodbye waiting a year or more for an OS X port, so long paying ten or twenty bucks extra for it when it eventually does come.... if it ever does come. Hello cheap games from Steam and the game stores' used bins.

Due to the increasing unreliability of my Windows computer, I eventually gave up using it and started using my Mac more.

Just now I tried to install ME3 on my Mac and was rather annoyed to discover I could not.

What makes me particularly annoyed is that I noticed Dragon Age 2 was available to install on Mac.

I'm aggressively opposed to fantasy games/genre because I feel the very existence of this diminishes the presence of sci-fi in the entertainment medium.

And this discovery has just given me one more reason to hate fantasy!

Unfortunately, it is true that very few games are Mac compatible.

I'm sad about that.

And it serves no purpose to bash Mac users, it's just provoking animosity.

I agree it is a stupid thing, but EA has done it before
