You can be as sarcastic as you want to my response, I was trying to be helpful but if thats really the case im just gonna tell u to get the standard edition and stop whining over a few weapons and a quest that will become £3 DLC a few months later anyway.

Wasn't being sarcastic. I thought you didn't see Chris's reply.

You are assuming I'm going to get the game. I haven't seen anything so far that makes me want to get it at all; Mass Jade Dragon Age Effect 2: Rise of the AWESOME BUTTON isn't my style of game. Something about kicking breakable flask grenades and firestorming your own party but only hurting/killing the bad guys just doesn't sit right with me. And the only "whining" about weapons I've done is "whining" that my sword and dagger rogue can't use a sword, and my twin axes rogue can't use axes, and my warrior that uses a bow in situations that are appropriate for it can't use a bow. I had no idea there were any weapons included with whatever is included with the signature edition. Once I found out about the changes of what I liked about Origins, like the no-longer-silent pc and the weapon restrictions, I haven't paid much attention to things. I'm only hanging around to find out who the va is for femHawke. Call it morbid curiosity; I disliked maleShep's voice to the point he never made it off the ship to Eden Prime in ME. They've released a clip with maleHawke's voice, and I might have been able to tolerate it. Now I'm curious about femHawke. The game might be an eventual on sale buy from Steam some day in the future, maybe.

I apologize then I mistook the tone for sarcasm. I share a few of your worries as well and they are all valid points. I'm gonna remain optimistic until the end myself when all my hopes are crushed under foot or rewarded with 24 carrot gold bars worth of gaming :P

I'm overjoyed that EA doesn't use Steam. As long as Steam makes patching mandatory, I will not use them.

Right Click... properties... Do not keep this game up to date. Keep a backup copy of your steamapps folder and you won't need to reinstall via their download and it won't be updated on reinstall. If you do get it patched, you can roll back by restoring the backup.

Nice tip.  That will work after the first activation (which necessarily includes patching if there are any available), but this would solve the problem if you always bought the games new and installed immediately.

What...not coming to steam....why the heck not...it is the easiest way to preorder games. And the fact that you are making us order 2 months before release to get the 'free' goodies just makes it that much harder.

to any Australians in here, where are you guys going to preorder from?

OK this sucks no Steam and I've discovered none of the other digital distributors have the game available to Australia. For anyone in Australia who has pre-ordered where did you pre-order it from? Electronics Buotique has an inflated price and I really don't want to go the EA route.

No the Signature Edition offer will not be available through Steam.
Edit: Misspoke.

Understood. But, the Signature Edition... without free upgrade?? (I mean, paying for the extras like DAO Collectors Edition Steam´s version)

Pre-ordered DA:O the hour it became available on Steam. This news is dissapointing to say the least.

My guess? Steam wants a larger piece of the cake than other retailers, download or not, I believe it is rumored to be ~30%.

I would say Steam is at least 50% better than the nearest competitor so you can justify it in that sense I suppose.
I am the same as a previous poster, I consider Steam a gaming platform in its own right, just like the consoles.

Yes, but consider it from a business point of view.

Bioware/EA wants to make as much money as possible, if the revenue lost to the people who prefer Steam to a point where they will not buy is elsewhere is less than what would be lost by refusing to use steam and have those willing to buy elsewhere, at least for pre-orders, they would be shooting themselves in the foot by agreeing to steams policy.

This is all just speculations though, these deals are carried out behind closed doors.

It is important to remember that there are no villains in this - if steam is not an attractive outlet then it makes no sense to use it, and steam has to maintain their position least they risk having to lower their advance on other game from other publishers.

Personally, I purchase where I can find the best deal, ME1 I got from the EA store, the rest from D2D - Steam seems pretty expensive unless there is a sale, they absically convert dollar prices to Euro.

Not sure if it's available in Aussie land, but have you tried gametap.com?

Well, that's lame :(

I find this to be very weird and with that it actually makes me wonder: Will Dragon Age 2 be available on Steam at all?

I use Steam sometimes. Heck, I got ME2 on Steam. Yet if someone actually said "FU" to them in this case, I kind of approve.

No offense people, but my OP was if
this was getting released on Steam or not. It was not intended to
invite a discussion about why some people think it sucks.

Mods, you can close this thread now, thanks.

Yep, that's about right. The original question has been answered: no DA2 Signature Edition on Steam. Any additional Steam-related discussion is off-topic for now; I'm sure if anything changes (and it's not likely to), we'll know about it.
