...and then in, in the Darkspawn DLC, one of them is revealed to be a desire demon. That's right, only gay couple in Dragon Age: Origins isn't actually a gay couple.

But that is not canon. And they appear in Awakenings.

How do you know for certain?

Somehow I doubt that "everyone dies" is the canon storyline.

On topic, my reaction was: "Yay ^_^"

They are incredibly out there and adorable, without being over the top. You may not have seen it because those relationships typically aren't portrayed in videogames or the media in general unless they are mocking them.

I wouldn't have seen a relationship if either was of the opposite gender either. To me it looked it it was just a business relationship.

That was my impression as well.

I was pleased neither one ended up dead by the end of the game.

There's only room in the fridge for the gals, or so I'm led to believe.

You've never heard of the Bury Your Gays trope?

It was a wonder I was able to squeeze Isolde's big fat head in there.

Huh. I thought it was Bring Out Your Gays.

Sort of like the guy who roams the streets of a plague town. "Bring out your gays! Bring out your gaaaays!"

Clearly I need to re-think the plan.

Wat

Women in Refrigerator Syndrome is a comic book term in which a female significant other is killed off for the sole purpose of shocking the superhero into becoming awesome at his job. It's inherently flawed because character development does not translate into skill. Also, it is incredibly sexist and poor writing. Uncle Ben from Spider-Man barely misses becoming a Man in Refrigerator because his death actually shocks Peter Parker into becoming a superhero, whereas before he just used his powers for ****s and giggles. Joss Whedon uses a variation of Fridge Syndrome on the audience.

After the transformation the demon casts a teleportion spell and that violates the basic rules of magic in the setting. It is cleary stated in the codex that teleportation and bringing dead back to life are not possible to achieve with magic in Thedas.

Well, until Dragon Age: Origins it was 'not possible' for a Grey Warden to survive slaying an archdemon either...

But on topic. Why would anyone be surprised about Isabela being open to s/s, given Origins? *shrug*

If it makes you feel any better, that was the way I saw it too.  Even after I knew they were a couple, I still don't really see them acting really couple-y.  Wade just seemed kind of clueless, and Herren seemed like he was trying to exploit Wade's cluelessness.  I wouldn't have been surprised to find out that Herren was stealing most of the money that came into the shop.

Edit:  On topic...yay, I guess?  I'm glad they're there for the people that want them, and I might play through them once, but their existence/non-existence doesn't really matter that much to me (though I'd say the same thing about romances in general, so...there's that.)

I always enjoy the romances.  It adds an interesting level to the main plot.  Plus with romance options comes some nice extra dialogue that could really help reveal your parties' personalities.

I have enjoyed S/S romances in the past and thought they were well done and added some flair and some reality to the world.  So I am very pleased to see them return.  :)

I can´t help but think that all this ****** stuff has a lot more to do with political correctness than with actual plotline, and that unlike inter-race romances (female elf romance anyone?), homosexual romances are some kind of "must" these days.

I can't help but call bs. If they ran with your logic, this would be an exclusive game indeed. The whole world is playing their games, they don't need to reflect a cultural vacuum.
