I'm happy for anyone who is going to exercise the option. I dont plan on it and I didny in DA:O but this game is meant to provide a customizable role-playing experience for everyone, not conform to political correctness or the views of the average bigot.

I'm fine with it. It makes the game more inclusive and recognizes a group of people who are more often than not excluded from things. I personally prefer heterosexual romances, but I'm glad the variety of options are there.

Immersion breaking? So you have never been hit on by a gay guy? They are out there, lerking in the shadows.

On a serious note, gay/lesbian gamers do exist. Given that this is not a linear story with a predefined protagonist, should they not have the rights as us straight gamers?

Can't say that I have. And what guy is going to hit on a badass in full plate and an armory worth of weapons? Somebody who isn't thinking clearly.

There is no "right" to have a gay LI. Their only right is the same as everyone elses which is that they own the game they spent money for. Yet I'll buy the game anyway so it's just a minor annoyance. I'm just sure there will be more "we demand this pre-established character to be gay" topics.

Hey now I wouldn't talk about yourself like that. Not good for your mental health.

I'm very happy to hear that BioWare decided to include s/s romances. I would have played DA II either way, but having this option makes it much more enjoyable.  :)

So you're saying that your response to being approached in such a way is to react violently?  Well then.  To change the subject entirely, anyone want to go to the Christmas wish thread and second my request for a proper ignore feature?

No I'm saying that your brains must be broken if your a man and you hit on a guy who doesn't take crap from anyone, kills things and burns towns for a living, and generally looks like somebody you don't want to mess with. It's common sense if your concerned about your health. It would be like asking a gang member a really stupid question. You don't know how he's going to react so your not going to do it. Common people acting like they don't care about their physical well-being is not very immersive.

Roc was gay. And he could probably take out a bunch of guys. So how does sexuality relate to badassness?

For the same reasons women may be attracted to such a male, perhaps?

A misconception, there, no one who buys the game owns it, Those who buy the game are granted a licsense to play the game.

Is that the best you can do? I'm sorry if I'm not acting politically correct enough for your tastes my lord.

I wasn't aware gay men would randomly approach Hawke and start flirting.

But it'd be okay for a woman's health to do so?  That's what you're saying, right?

But did guys go around hitting on him? No becuase if your a badass and your gay, you're the one hitting on same-gendered people, not vice-versa. You don't ask somebody who may kick your ass a potentially offensive or rude quesiton. I don't see what is so offensive about that.

People will try to relate real-world prejudices and expectations to Thedas despite a lack of evidence that such a connection exists.

I think in your case an emphasis on "prejudices" would be appropriate.

Just because there is an s/s option does not mean that gay men will be hitting on Hawke. With the possible exception of Zevran (in whose case it made sense based on his characterization), that did not happen in Origins, and we have no evidence that it will in DA 2.

As for my reaction to s/s romance being confirmed? I didn't think it needed confirming, especially with Isabella there. I would have been slightly disappointed if it was left out, but not terribly.

Gay people do take a risk if they hit on someone of the same gender that they do not know. The person being hit on could react very badly. I hate to bring this up, but look at what happened with Matthew Shepard. He got in the car with the wrong people. It sickens me that things like that can happen and I hope that people in general are more respectful and would politely refuse if they do not accept the advances. You or I could not possible know what that is like.

So not wanting something makes me prejudiced and ignorant? Good to know. So what was the point of this topic exactly? Praise is only acceptable and if you don't like it your ignorant?

I don't see why that aspect of the real world wouldn't carry over to Thedas. You've got what you wanted from Bioware and I fail to see how not wanting immersion breaking behavior from NPCs is such a crime.

Indeed, given the negative response to his boldness I would imagine it would be something they'd seek to avoid.

It's a waste of development time, and I'm totally against it, but I'm going to buy the game anyway. Yep... Just don't have guys everywhere hitting on male Hawke and other immersion breaking nonsense.

But politically correct stuff like this isn't going to do a thing to appease those demanding this sort of thing. They're just going to move onto the next thing.

How is this a waste of development time? Are you just against romances in general?

I don't think anyone is capable of telling how the other person will react when hitting on someone, straight or gay. It all depends on how you approach the person. I also think gay people can tell when someone is interested in them as much as straight people can.

Also, the idea of risk is... questionable, given that the people likely to be asking about it are fellow party members, i.e. people about as dangerous as Hawke.
