Welcome news!

I'm a heterosexual male (despite my avatar), but will almost always play the female protaganist if given the choice, why:
1. to be honest, it's just easier on the eyes.
2. I'm a heterosexual male.

If given the choice to have a F/F romance in the above situation, I will most assuredly embrace it, why:
1. see number 2 above.

I know a lot of male gamers who feel the same way.

And what about M/M romances?

Never, for the reasons given in my post.
I've nothing against it, just out of my comfort zone.
I dig chicks...er, women.

This is really great and all but where exactly is the interview/preview in question where that was mentioned?
Gairder posting in this thread confirms it, I know but I'd like to read that regardless.:)

It was confirmed in that French preview.

See, and that's why it's not happening.

Too old, too ugly and too dwarf-y.

I'm guessing it's Anders. Fenris is probably gonna be the game's badass so I doubt they'll make him bi.

It was in a series of brief interviews following yesterday's French article.

I am pretty sure he asks you at a point if you mind him fancying you. If you then answer that you don't mind then nobody can help you. At some point you simply have to read his intention.

I never got that dialagoue apparently.

You only get it if you ask him what it is he fancies.  but Zevran, you flirt, he checks to make sure you actually mean it, and if you say, "oh, i didn't mean THAT" the romance is over.  Forever.  All you have to do is tell him you're not attracted to men, or that he shouldn't flirt with you, or whatever.  That is, if you ever even flirt with him at all.  Alistair is the same way, you flirt a little as a female, you have a rose!

That's why I said females probably aren't as bothered by it.  we're more used to unwanted sexual attention than men are :)

Or because you're not getting unwatned attention from those of the same sex.

Reminds me when I had 2 mods installed for my femWarden so I can romance everyone and nobody got jealous. I de-installed it for my male playthrough, but obviously not thoroughly enough, so I still got Alistair's rose. Probably most awkward moment ever, especially since I got nobody but myself to blame for it.

It is just as uncomfortable when a guy flirts with me whom I'm not interested in (well, aside from the fact I'm married so it's ALWAYS awkward).  It's not a same-gender thing.  It's a not-attracted-to thing.  Women just have to be more tolerant because many guys do NOT get this.  Some guys even get mad if their interest is not returned, which can lead to some very ugly scenes.

That Alistair and Zevran back right off if told to is refreshing.  [edit] not wanting to break up with someone because you're afraid of approval loss is a fault of the player, not the character. There are a lot of gifts to give Zevran to make up for that approval loss. [end edit]

Edit:

You know, it IS awkward telling someone you're not interested in them, and it's worse in some ways when you SEE the approval in the game because of that with such good voice acting (gah, some of those breakups have me feeling like the biggest heel in the world).

Have to agree it's more awkward getting hit on by a woman. It's more rare so not expected, for one thing.

Oh it wasn't about that, the mods helped doing all romances and seeing them through in one playthrough. I didn't feel like doing 3 playthroughs with the same origin to see all romances.

Gonna disagree here. I've been out dancing and had a guy I'd never met before slide up to me and begin grinding his erection against my ass. I recall the time a guy I was chatting to at a party leaned over, kissed me, and managed to suck my tongue into his mouth before I knew what was happening. (which was actually ickier than grindy guy)

The most aggressively a woman has hit on me? Uh... a woman I just met told me I had a great jawline. One asked me if she could buy me a drink.

I'd say that was sexual harrassment, a little more than getting hit on. Maybe I'm a prude...

I can never understand why heterosexual men confident in their orientation are ever bothered when they're hit on by a gay man. They should be flattered. Gay men tend to have higher standards than their straight counterparts. Hetero men that are offended when a gay man flirts with them are probably just upset that they're being seen as a piece of meat... which is exactly what most hetero men view women as! So when the tables are turned, and they don't like it one bit. I say, get over yourselves. Be thankful someone is attracted to you enough to pay you some attention!

This may have more to do with orientation expectations--guys expect women to be hetero (and interested in them), while women interested in other women may attempt to test the field.

Which is why I enjoyed Leliana's romance.  She clearly was testing the waters before out and out hitting on.

Still, it would be nice if we had a LI that would be more initiative or aggressive when it came to a romance.

Also, ick those experiences are.

I did manage to stumble into that Zevran romance by accident, because I don't think just complimenting someone's handsomeness means I want to have sex with them. But I mean, it's not like one can't simply break it off immediately. Yeah, there's an approval hit, but oh well. I just chalk it up to a miscommunication.

I agree Maria Caliban.  Awkward I could handle.    I've had a few dates where the guy thought no meant try a little harder, one to the point I was fighting.  He did call and apologize the next day.  Asked me out,  said no thank you.

I am glad they will have a same sex romance available in the game.  I'll probably play them all.

I may have done a little dance when I saw that s/s romances were confirmed for both genders. Isabela turning up made it almost certain that there was an f/f option, because it would be downright weird if she'd have sex with a Warden of either gender and Mike Hawke, but baulk at Lady Hawke for some reason. I was somewhat concerned, however, that there wouldn't be a m/m option.

I'm glad that there apparently will be, both for reasons of social justice and because I will hopefully get to watch Mike Hawke make out with a hot guy. (Yes, women are allowed to be shallow about these things.)

*scratches head*

As a straight male who doesn't "get" the appeal lesbians have to other straight males - it's not as if those women have any such use for us, at least in an equivalent sense - I can't say I get that either.

If I can't picture myself in the relationship, I can't imagine how it applies to me.  I can certainly appreciate a M/M or F/F relationship at a distance, but that's because that's the only way I'd ever really experience them.

As such in video games with those options I tend to pursue M/F relationships even if I'm playing a female character.  At least I am able then to relate on some level with at least one participant.  Even though they are third person narratives I like to maintain some connection to the protagonist, and that's the part of my approach that I feel makes me empathize with gay players who want to be able to experience S/S relationships in Bioware games.

I'm sure there's an explanation for all that, though.

Indifference.

I don't play Dragon Age because I want a dating simulator. I play it because I want a well-written fantasy adventure.

I think it's a number of things. Sexuality is a complicated beast, that very rarely comes down to simple reasons. Here's a couple of the top of my head:

A lot of our self perceptions are based on external reinforcement. The message the hetero guy in that situation recieves is that they have been percieved, at least potentially, to be gay or bi. It doesn't need to question their orientation to be uncomfortable, just question their view of external perceptions of their orientation.

Then there's experience of the situation, dealing with the unfamiliar. I think peoples level of comfort with sexual relations, or relations generally is related to experience, and being hit on as a straight man is an unsual, if not unique occurance, with which they have limited previous encounters from which to draw on for a response. It coming from a guy just complicates matters further.

Complete indifference. I don't do S/S relationships, and don't buy games for the relationships anyway.

I guess it's cool for people who want it. That's about it.
