Is there any way to beat this guy without exploits? He spams several high level spells, including Finger of Death, Horrid Wilting & Power Word: Kill (aka, bye bye Aerie).
I can beat him by throwing a few Cloudkills into the fog of war, but if I try to fight him head on, people in my party start dying.

This is definitely a difficult quest and that's why it is almost always one of the last I do in Ch 3. I take the Warden out by hitting hard and fast. Have true sight running before you get to him to dispel his illusions and haste everyone so they can get to him and start bashing before he can get any of his nastiness off. Also, I assume you've destroyed the orb so that all you are fighting is the Warden himself?

With enough truesights, dispells(or breaches) and deathwards, some hasted characters should be able to whack at him fast enough to stop him from doing too much harm. As always you can simply lead with summons. What works even better than throwing cloudkills into fog of war for this battle is seeing him, throw cloudkills then disapear down one of the teleports... Also whatever you do, don't wish for horrid wilting on everyone in the room as it will kill your ability to return to your own plane(need protection from magical energy on those you do not wish to die for this to work).

Scorching Ray and Fireball work well for me. I try to keep Aerie away from anything that can cast Horrid Wilting (Often by leaving her at the circus.). What I find more frustrating is the stun effect the Demon has.

Finger of Death - Necromancy
Horrid Wilting - Necromancy
Power Word: Kill - Necromancy
Perhaps Aerie could cast spell immunity: Necromancy?
Bahahahaha!

I just realized the topic should've included Planar Prison rather than Planar Sphere.

The planar warden cheats quite a bit; he uses his spell triggers and spell sequencers in the same round he casts a spell, something the player isn't allowed to do (and fortunately, few other enemies do this).
Part of the problem imo is the logistics of this battle, getting the party up a narrow corridor with the floor traps to the room with the demon, then spreading out to avoid his wiltings etc., and given the demon's ability to see invisible enemies stealth is no option.
Death ward, pro magic energy and chaotic commands all last for hours.

Conjuration, actually. Personally I find spell immunity - except immunity:abjuration, for which there is no substitute - to be inconveniently short duration compared to other protective spells. The Potty 1 wrote...
