I think women can be every bit as violent as men, and often more vindictive.

Women can, and are, as aggresive as men are. But women are not stereotypically violent. Physically threatening and/or indimidating someone, to the point of using your fists in a violent fashion, is far more a masculine trait than it is a femine one. And this is something Aveline is similar too.

''Macho'' is nothing more than a gender stereotype.

Beating a darkspawn to death with one's fists is not inherently masculine behaviour.

I think physical violence is masculine behaviour.

Perhaps in the real world. In a video game, violence is gender neutral.

Just what about Aveline has said she's "macho"? The fact that she's muscular?

That and she murders a darkspawn by beating it down with her fits.

'Macho' is more than violent. Macho is an attitude. It has a certain in-your-face bravado. If Aveline is humble and plain-spoken the majority of the time, that she beat a darkspawn to death when it attacked her husband makes her more of a mama bear.

Maybe it's just my taste in women, but in my experience they can be every bit as fierce and feral as men.

On topic: I don't really care if we get anymore female companions, and I don't really care about the ones we have. All I ask is that whatever companions we get don't annoy me. From what Ive seen of both Isabela and Aveline, they seem fairly tolerable.

Of the people I've known who have punched someone in response to some remark, they have all but one been women. Granted, they represent a small majority of the overall people I've known but the claim women are less violent is something I find unlikely.

Open aggressiveness is a male trait; I find men tend to be more aggressive in attitude but generally more bluster than action.

Ever look at the statistics of violent crimes committed by men versus those of women?

I'm not say that woman can't be dangerous, just that they are less likely to be so.

Yes, men are more likely to commit violent crime.

At the same time, we're talking about a video game where you will literally kill over a thousand different things before you finished. That means that all your companions, the people you're likely to work most with and get close to, will have to be violent.

I don't consider Morrigan and Leliana masculine characters. Leliana is one of the most feminine and girly companions I've interacted with. However, if someone she cared about were attacked by a darkspawn and looked to be in danger, she wouldn't hesitate to whip out her daggers and gut the attacker.

Within the narrative of DA, and many video games, violence is not odd. It's the standard way of dealing with the world.

I was not limiting the reports to domestic cases. How many women do you think rob places? Or murder, or just plain get into altercations?

I'd hit it.

Sadly, Aveline would hit back.

That is more thanks to culture then anything else. If in whatever culture in Thedas for instance women and men are equally raised when it comes to violent behaviour, how to deal with conflict, etc. I expect there be equal violent crimes between men and women.

Or templars.

Both Isabella and Aveline are attractive and they're bound to have that rare thing in video games: personalities. Sounds like that's what some guys are scared of here.

What?
Morrigan and lily had personalities as well we like them just fine for the most part.

I don't like Isabella because she's slept with every man she's met.
I don't like Aveline because she looks like conny the barbarian

But if we're talking about impressions, it's the real world that matters.

That wasn't the impression I had with the term. When I think macho I think of hyper-masculinity, which to me is a matter of high aggression and a tendency toward physical violence.

If Aveline is plain-spoken, but coarse and prone to physical as opposed to relational aggression, I see that as stereotypically male behaviour.
