Misogyny seems to be a card some people think is acceptable on these forums, along with racism, homophobia, and a whole list of derogatory language aimed towards minorities. Its nice to know a majority of the folks here don't let crap like that slide.

Go take your sexism and leave it on the curb, kthnx.

If you don't like Isabela, just say 'Isabela doesn't do it for me'. Name calling her and depreciating her based on what she does with her body in public is grounds for ass kicking.

I was going to reply again, but I going to take your advise further up.

I'm not seeing any etymology for the word on dictionary or webster.com. Just says "origin unknown." That's not to say it doesn't still carry those definitions.

As long as she's practicing safe sex (gogo pig intestine with lyrium spermocide), I frankly don't see the problem. Besides the risk of STDs (which isn't going to be a factor for, as you say, a fictional character in a Bioware game), having lots of partners is not intrinsically "bad", it just... is. She likes sex, so she has lots of it, and that's her personality and outlook on the subject. You may not like it, but all that is is an opinion.

Dude, there is no way I would let lyrium near my junk. Have you not seen what it did to the Dwarf merchant?

I can't tell if you're reffering to me, but if you are, how is it sexism?

...Well, it (kinda) worked with Sandal.

The girls seem to be going crazy for it over in the Fenris thread, though ;)

Plus, Lyrium is the fantasy equivalent of a radioactive substance, and we all know that radiation (a) makes things bigger, and (B) gives one superpowers.

Yeah. Gaider revealed to the Fenris thread that his lyrium marks are downright painful for him, to the point another person can't even touch them.

One person assumed it may even drain someone's energy if they get too close. Its pretty interesting.

I would guess the mage was trying to use him as a battery, much as Wilhelm did with Shale.

I see you breezed by wiki & a few others an internet search list, so how long did it take you to find that?

I googled the word and hit the first dictionary link I found?

That would have been wikipedia no?

That's another idea that I find interesting, now that you mention Shale. That Fenris maybe the organic equivalent of a golem, which makes sense considering the ingredients are : Lots of Lyrium + Living Subject = Golem.

I honestly want a female LI that is not human. the only LI in Origins that wasn't human was Zevran, and intimacy with a submissive assassin guy isn't my thing. I also think dwarves are too short, thus I have never been able to complete a playthrough as one. I'd prefer Elf or Qunari LI for my MaleHawke, but we'll see what happens

Do you guys seriously not understand the offensive connotations of the eord "skank"? It's not like it's a pleasant word. It's quite mysogenistic.

It is? I always thought it was gender independent.

Certainly not in its usage by the masses.

It isn't. People try to use it to speak of both genders, but it mostly refers to women and is quite insulting.

This reminds me of Bill Mahr's attempt to make the word bimbo gender independent.

If there is an air of misogyny, I notice the air of misandry floating about the place to go with it wasn't mentioned.

When you're talking about it in terms of promiscuity, it only applies to women.

Its sort of weird hearing some of the things said about Morrigan and Leliana in comparison to Isabela. Obviously Isabela has a rather promiscuous past, but I don't see it being properly compared to Morrigan or Leliana at all. Sure, Morrigan may have slept with a fair number of men, but there's no evidence that she slept with any men (or women) that she didn't 'have' to sleep with in order to survive, they were trying to kill her and her mother so she seduced/killed them, that was something she was taught to do by her mother and she didn't have any choice. In the many playthroughs I've had, I've never seen any evidence that Leliana ever slept with any men at all, and if she did it would've been part of the whole 'seduction' thing she did as a Bard, which again was part of the whole not getting killed thing. Leliana only ever slept with one person that we know of, Marjolaine her ex-boss/girlfriend, for reasons that weren't job/safety related. Of course maybe there are tiny comments in the whole 'random companion comments' that I either didn't see or am not remembering, but I've played a LONG time, and there's just no evidence that I can recall that suggests either woman being 'loose' aside from what they had to do to survive. Maybe they could've made better life-choices, like Morrigan leaving the swamp instead of staying and having to do all that, and Leliana could've stopped being a Bard, but aside from that I think they're pretty much normal women when it comes to romance, much moreso than Isabela has been in the past, and I'm hopeful that she will regret/change her old ways when she finally meets up with Lady Hawke, and be a one-woman-girl just like Leliana was (and like Morrigan was for my Female Warden, thanks PC-mods :) ) .

Okay, what about the "w" word, it crosses both genders.

It's heavily implied that Morrigain was taught to seduce men as a skill in its own right, and that she had done this before. In her dialogue with the Warden, she makes it sound like a very 'sex-buddy' sort of affair.

In the many playthroughs I've had, I've never seen any evidence that Leliana ever slept with any men at all, and if she did it would've been part of the whole 'seduction' thing she did as a Bard, which again was part of the whole not getting killed thing. We don't technically ''know'' that she slept with Marjolane. She just tells us she loved her. Leliana even had a story about seducing and killing one particular man, though, so it's safe to say Male Warden is not her first. I believe she also worked in a brothel once, as part of being a bard.

Of course maybe there are tiny comments in the whole 'random companion comments' that I either didn't see or am not remembering, but I've played a LONG time, and there's just no evidence that I can recall that suggests either woman being 'loose' aside from what they had to do to survive.

I don't think there's a need to make a value judgement here, and I don't think we saw any sign of Isabella ever being 'loose'. She flirts with the PC a bit, but it's the Warden who offers the sex, and Leliana or Zevran then but in at that point and offer to join. I'd certainly count a potential foursome or threesome with Isabella as putting Leliana on the same page as her.

I doubt anybody would be confused by what you mean if you use the term, I'm simply relating the correct dictionary usage.

Aermas wrote...

Assuming you don't mean waffle, and assuming you mean what I think you mean, that also only applies to women when it is used properly. At least, that is how is it is used in the English language, American English is a whole separate language so it may have broadened its horizons.

But strictly speaking it means a prostitute, I don't know as anybody has suggested Isabela is a prostitute.
