Hello everyone!

After spending hours on trying to fix this, I'm getting desperate, so I hope somebody here can help me.

I tried to install "Golems of Amgarrak" today and received an error message saying that I had to install patch 1.04 first. So I did, but nothing changed, the Golem DLC still wouldn't work and kept telling me I needed version 1.04.

So I checked my DA:O folder and realized that apparently parts of DA:O were installed on my C:/ drive and parts of it on D:/, where I keep all my games. I don't even remember installing DA:O on C:/, because that drive has very limited space. But anyhow, parts of my DA-files were there and I decided to move them all to D:/.

After that, I realized that every time I launched Dragon Age from that moment on, a BioWare////Dragon Age folder was created in C:/ again and Dragon Age was reset completely, because it was still launching from C:/. So I finally decided to change the default location of the My Documents folder and then copied all the DA:O files into the Dragon Age folder there.

Now Dragon Age does launch from D:/, but all my DLCs including those from my Collector's Edition are marked as "not authorized" even though I had used them all when playing "Origins" months ago. Plus my DLC "Golems of Amgarrak", for which I've already paid, is gone, too, as if I'd never downloaded it.

I'd really appreciate some help and advice here. What did I do wrong, how did I mess it all up? And how can I fix it? Any ideas?

Thank you very much in advance!

Wow that's confusing. Which files exactly did you move and to where? Have you moved your DLC files?

To be honest, I don't remember exactly which files were in C:/ and which in D:/, because it was like six hours ago. I just moved everything I could find in C:///BioWare///Dragon Age to the files that were already in D:///BioWare///Dragon Age.

Is that of any help? Sorry...

I think that's your problem now the game can't find the files because they are in a different location and they are coming up as unauthorised you may need to uninstall and reinstall everything again.

Isn't there some way to change the path that the game uses? In other words: Can I somehow get it to access just D:/ and not C:/?

To uninstall and reinstall everything again has come to my mind, too. I was hoping there might be another solution, but I can't think of anything else right now.

Here's what the DA:O Customer Support said about my issue. It didn't help me, because my CD key is installed, but just in case anyone else is experiencing similar problems:

We have received a variety of reports about DLC not functioning
properly for some users. Many of these issues seem to be impacting users
that do not have a CD key installed in their registry.
Symptoms of this issue that users have reported experiencing include:

  • When speaking to Shale the conversation will be reset to the first
time you speak to her, with only two dialogue options. The player will
also be placed in a "bad" location on the map.
  • Various DLC items removed from in-game inventory. This includes Blood Dragon Armor, Warden's Commander Armor, etc.
  • An inability to access Warden's Keep, Honnleath, or the storage chest at Warden's Keep
Until we can provide a patch with a permanent solution, we recommend
checking to make sure your CD key is installed in your registry and
logging into the server at least once before continuing to play if you
experience any of these issues.
If you are unsure whether you have a CD key installed:
  • Run the daoriginsconfig.exe application
    • This should be found in the bin_ship folder in the directory you installed Dragon Age to.
  • Click Game on the bar on the left side of the application window.
  • You should see a box near the bottom of the application window called Product Keys.
  • If you have a CD key installed, it will be listed in that window. If not, please install your CD key.
To reinstall your CD key:
  • Navigate to the data directory on your installation CD.
  • Run DragonAge_code.exe
  • A prompt will now appear allowing you to re-enter your CD key.
Please note that if you have saved your game while experiencing any
of the symptoms, installing your CD key and logging into the server may
not restore functionality to that save. While we are still looking into
an official fix, for the time being you may need to reload from a
previous save game that has not exhibited any of the symptoms.

They also mentioned, that you can save the installation files in other drives; however, the game progressions would be saved in C. And you can't do anything about it.

Actually they save wherever you've assigned [your docs] to be, which is usually C: but can be somewhere else. Knowing that would be varying from the script that they've memorized.

Do you know how to access the services list on your PC? If you do, check the properties of the Dragon Age Updater service, It's probably trying to start from C:.

I'm trying to wrestle with getting Dragon Age installed in the D drive now, too. New computer, SSD drive with limited space on C. Having both the game, and 40+GB of mods is a good chunk of my drive. Is there a guide anywhere for setting this all up? Thx!

This post many months old but I found it via Google this evening while myself looking for a fix. I would also like to report that I have found the solution.

What you will need to do is to relocate the Users/Documents folder. You can find many tutorials online for how to do this in various Windows versions.

In Windows 7, its quite simple.
1. Go to the Users/YourUsername folder, and right click on the My Documents folder and choose Properties from the menu.
2. Choose the Location tab.
3. Change the default directory to your preferred location. For me I just changed the drive to G: instead of C. Press the Apply button.
4. Then click the Move button and it will copy the entire contents of the Documents folder to the new location as well as automatically make all the necessary system changes for you.
5. Done!

Have just now tested with both DA and DA2 and working fine.
