Wait so PS3's version of ME2 is superior? Comparisons say otherwise..

Ok, I play on a 4 year old HDTV capable of 1080i, so had my settings up to 1080i, but when I turn it down to 720p, it actually seemed to improve the quality of the presentation. I could not detect the same level of screen tear as I clearly did - and the pic quality (color scheme) seemed a little less muted....than my first playthrough
720p > 1080i 99% of the time. 1080i is only superior when the actual source has 1080 lines of native detail.

Okay, I gotta be honest... I own all 3 consoles this gen, and like them all equally. And IMO, the PS3 ME2 Demo looked great. I noticed no screen-tearing at the beginning, the graphics looked sharper, and the framerate appeared to be higher than the 360 Version. My ONLY complaint is that the lighting is too bright in some areas, and too dark in others, so I had to do some adjustments.
To all the folks who aren't Xbots and are legitimately experiencing blurry graphics, make sure that you have 720p set as an option under Display Settings. Alot of people don't know this, but if you have your PS3 only set to display in 1080i/p and play a game that doesn't support anything over 720p, then your PS3 defaults to displaying the game in 480i.
It seems that the PS3 is simply not capable of HDR (without a huge processing cost). HDR adjusts light in dark areas, similar to your eyes adjusting to the dark.
Whatever it is, the lighting in PS3 games always seems flat.

It exists because Sony and Microsoft made competing consoles. We are discussing the merits of each console based on Mass Effect 2.JrayM16 wrote...
This thread may be the worst thread I have ever seen. Not sure why it still exists.

Yeah, will pay attention to that on the game box more in the future....
Anyone experience glitches in the demo? When you first pick up the heavy grenade gun, the door/elevator was locked and stayed that way....I got stuck....weird

You're wrong about both.
PS3 is fully capable of HDR; although it usually comes with some performance penalty but it can be relatively small.
Also, HDR isn't just about adjusting light areas, it's about using the proper math to perform lighting and reflection calculations, preserving the color range of the textures and so on. Modifying the exposure after rendering (similar to how cameras do it) is just a bonus.

Err, what? I don't buy it... can you source this claim?
EDIT: http://wikibin.org/a...-ps3-games.html this site claims this only applies to 1080i
That aside, to the people who keep saying it's no big deal, I can guess that you all are probably not PS3 owners, and if you are that you aren't planning to play on the PS3. Stop fanboy-ing please. That's just as bad as the console war trolls.
Frame rate drops are not conducive to high action fps games. And the tearing just cheapens the feel. To be honest I didn't notice the lighting too much when I was playing the demo, but seeing the side by side screen shots with the xbox, I cant help but feel disappointed.
Having played the game on PC previously I was hoping it would have been possible to have a consistent gaming experience across platforms.
To the people who say "ZOMG ALL THIS OVER JUST THE DEMO" the demo provides a definitive view of what the game will LOOK like-- it's just short on content. So the it's just a demo cry simply doesn't make sense.

I agree about the demo. It is unlikely that a demo would change at a fundamental level. Particularly since it would be bad marketing.joltmajor wrote...

The Xbox 360 and PS3 are two different consoles. PC is a whole other beast. Unless they design to the very lowest standard, getting the same look and feel is impossible. So, they should be able to make Tetris look identical on all platforms, but a game like ME2 pushes the hardware too far for consistency.

I own both systems and I can't honestly say that one is "better" than the other. The main advantage of the PS3 is that the blu ray has alot more disc space so what takes 360 two disc plus a decent size hard drive can be done on one blu ray for ps3. The PS3 only seems to outshine 360 when it comes to the graphics of exclusives eg. Uncharted, MGS4 etc.
... and knowing the graphics capabilities of the PS3 based on its exclusives, there is no excuse for multiplatform games to look like garbage compared to the competition - especially if they used an update graphics engine.

And Bioware, I'm not HATING on you or the PS3. I know you guys are doing the best you can to fix these problems and I have the utmost respect for all of you as fantastic game developers. Good luck to all of you and your entire staff and continue to make great games for years to come.
