A sad fact of life is that the PS3 was not designed very well. How many bad cups of pudding do you need to eat before you realize that Mom needs to change her recipe?

Wow people its a bloody demo when did a demo show the full game? The demo was most likely made during early stages. <_<:pinched:

360/PC still look better to me.

This makes me nervous, considering Casey Hudson was stressing hard how much better the PS3 version will be, and that indeed, this will be the same engine for ME3.

From those pictures, I will take the 360/PC version no doubt.  BioWare, if you're out there, please explain.

They still have a year to make sure everything in ME3's final engine is nice and neat.   ME3 will probably look better across the board from ME2.  The PS3 version of ME3 may look worse than the 360 and PC versions, but hopefully they've learned some lessons from putting the ME3 engine into the PS3 version.

People are also forgetting something: they've done nothing new to the models, textures, etc. that were created for ME2. They just repackaged them for the updated engine. I.e., none of them were designed with the new features (and the pitfalls of those new features) in mind.

Wow, the 360 version blows the PS3 out of the water (the facial textures in the PS3 version look like crap imo).

Shadows and lighting look much better in the 360 version as well. And Miranda's eyes don't have that reflection (like a normal eye would) in the PS3 version.

Look, I love Bioware, I'm a ME1/2 fanatic... but even I laughed when I read they were "using the ME3 engine for ME2".

The "Me3" engine is a tweaked ME2 engine.... which is a tweaked ME1 engine... which is a customized Unreal 3 engine.

It was / is very clearly a marketing ploy to dazzle the typical gamer who don't understand the basic concepts of things like game engines.

Me3 will barely look any different than ME2... it will have some more polish, some refined particle effects, perhaps (hopefully) some up-rezzd textures and most likely tighter optimization to ensure smooth frame rates (which ME2 already has.. so they only need to optimize enough to keep up with whatever minor modifications they make).

Other than optimization and bug fixing, little they're doing for the ME3 engine on consoles isn't something that hasn't already been done by modders for the PC version of ME2 (various mods increasing texture resolutions, etc).

Rebel you've already made your damn point like 20 times, no need to repeat it over and over again, it's useless ¬¬. If BioWare wants to talk about it here, they sure will, as no doubt they've already read your post. So try to calm down a little bit.

Forgive me for being an idiot, but I don't see why we are assuming that the PS3 version has the actual ME3 engine. ME3 won't be out for another year. I would assume that there would be at least some engine changes in the meantime.

We're assuming it because the guy in charge of the port said straight-up (and I quote): "We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine."

I can't understand why people are saying the ps3 version looks worse. To be honest they just look different. I think there are flaws and strengths in both sets of pictures, it's hard to come to a solid conclusion without both versions running in-front of you. At this stage I'd say it just comes down to personal taste more than anything, which is a good sign for both versions being 'equal'

You know, this could just be saying that the engine made for Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 is the same that will be used for ME3.  I hope not...

Honestly, both console versions look like complete ass compared to the PC version. I don't know why people are arguing about any of this.

Understood, but that engine is still going to be under some level of development for the next year.

Eh, I don't know. As a PC user I don't really care about the whole X360/PS3 antagonism. Honestly, it depends on the screenshot. PS3 has the bloom toned down and more accurate it seems, which is great. Plus facial shadows seem softer and more natural. Mass Effect 2 tends to "burn" the blacks too much and dark areas become pitch black instead of just... well, dark.

A few screenshots just look better on the X360, though. More natural.

See this thread: http://social.biowar.../index/797393/3. I've tweaked the shaders and the bloom (through the coalesced.ini), so I've toned down the overly blackened shadows and excessive bloom, but it's still richer in colour than the PS3 shots (and, IMHO, more accurate as far as lighting is concerned). Looks better than both.

The biggest change is Ashley's armor in the prologue screenshot. It's not the Pheonix anymore, maybe the Hoplite? I wonder why they changed it, plus she doesn't have a transparent visor.

EDIT: Okey, found some PS3 gameplay videos. They don't look superior at all, esp.comparing textures on the PC, minus one thing: the bloom is not only far less, but it's also far more accurate. I guess I'll lower the setting on my machine even more, the PS3 definately looks cleaner and nicer without the excessive bloom on every surface...

I think (some) PS3 users are raging because ME2 on PS3 isn't significantly better than the 360 version. They expected it to blow the 360 version completely out of the water. You know, "The power of Cell!", "Magnificent Blu-ray!", "blabla!"

Come on, did they really expect he game to be that different from the 360 version? Really?

To quote Priestly -

This forum is NOT for Xbox 360 fans, or PC fans, or PS3 fans to say "I
am cooler than you because I use "X" and you don't". If you cannot keep
your narrowminded platform bigotry to yourself, you will not be posting

For the Demo they use high compression resulting in smaller file size, or would you want to download 6 or 7gigs? That is why it is blurry and pixelated.

Because that's not Ashley.  It's Liara.  Neither Ashley nor Kaidan can appear in the prologue sequence of the PS3 version.  The ME1 recap comic doesn't kick in until you've gotten to character creation, meaning  PS3 players have no prior romance or Virmire choice recorded for the game to use in determining who appears.  And, for whatever reason, they decided not to stick with default for new characters on the PC/360 of Kaidan for FemShep and Ash for MShep.

They probably had Liara there to avoid any issues that might arise depending on who the player chooses to be the Virmire Survivor. After all, if Kaidan was there for FemShep to help her off the Normandy but then the player kills them off at Virmire in the comic that whole opening sequence wouldn't make much sense. Liara cannot be killed by the players in the first game, so while she might not be chosen as the LI she does make sense in the fact that you won't be retconning anything with the comic.

Just my two cents. :3

Is this really the case? I hope so, but this does nothing to explain the lighting issues, the inconsistant framerates, and the frequent tearing.

And for all you lame xbox elitists, enjoy your cheap glory. I played it on a tricked out PC on the highest settings, with mods for higher res textures... and it looked BEAUTIFUL.  Way better than the comparatively ugly 360 screenshots (and even worse PS3 ones).

But the prologue has Shepard.  And they'd need to have a definitive sex for Shepard.
