1) Fixed mining. Its not the tedium so much (it was actually somewhat fun for me), but it always.. felt wrong. Human colonies are disappearing, weird signals in space.. but the hero of humanity is taking time off to do mineral surveys. Doesn't quite fit, you know? What would fit though - especially after all the build-up of rep in 1 & 2 - setting up / sending out your own mining missions, piracy sorties, buying up your own businesses and hiring who you want to run them, setting up trade lanes.. I'm not talking Civ or Master of Orion here, but more like fire-and-forget things you set up that will pay off over time, and that might even generate missions 'Your shop on Citadel is being made an offer you can't refuse. Go refuse it.' 'Your adviser's want to set up a trade line through sector X, can you scout for the best location?' Fits the theme, generates money, can still be made into short little mini-games (stock market, mini 'strategy games' like connect-4 with ships), no tedium. Woo - or even mercenary missions!
2) More RPG during missions. I know ME2 had more missions.. but it never really felt like it to me. As soon as the 'you killed my master - now we fight!' began it always became a straight-up run of the mill shooter. Fun enough, but jarring to go from RP to shooter so blatantly. There were moments when that was broken up and it really felt like 'shooter with story and important choices', but they were few and far between.
3) More action during RPG. Guess I'm beating a dead horse, but just blurring the line between 'now you're doing a mission' and 'now you're safe'. I liked how in ME1 I could suddenly find myself in a fight without expecting it, it made the space feel more alive. In ME2 it felt more like 'ok, now we enter the dungeon, get your swords ready'. Along that same lines, larger spaces to explore. I was So excited to finally see the Krogen home world.. yea, it was a little valley, a lab, and a guy fixing his truck. Oh, and of course then there were two linear dungeons. I really don't know why ME1 felt bigger even though I know ME2 was.. but it did.
4) Please please please tell me when conversation options open up with the crew. The nifty secretary could hint 'hey, go talk to so and so'. Or visually they could stand different. I just feel retarded when I try to strike a conversation with my crew and they tell me to go away and stop pestering them. How long does it really take to clean a rifle anyway?
5) Lose the ammo. Or let me carry a lot of it Get what you were doing with it, had some fun tense moments with it, but I never touched my heavy weapons for fear that there was a boss around the next corner (which means lost all the fun I could have had with the heavy weapons), and if I'm playing a sniper I want to be able to cheerfully snipe to my heart's content instead of counting down bullets. I also want to figure out why oh why I can't carry more than 13 bullets. I'm rich, let me buy pockets so I can bring another clip along. (So here's more constructive criticism - let me choose out how much ammo I carry by swapping stuff out, old-school backpack style. Ammo is this big, you have this many spaces / can carry this much, how do you want to allocate it? Want a whole bunch of ammo for your sniper rifle in turn for those unused pistol-clip slots? Lose access to the assault rifle to carry more sniper rifle? Have at it.)
6) More chances to pick up powers from a different class instead of having to play just that class. Maybe let me do a cloaking adept so I can feel like a ninja. Or a charging soldier. Etc. (Basically let me customize my growth tree a bit more) For some it will give more replay value, and for those who don't have time to play a lot it will make the few replays that much more enjoyable. And maybe let us drop some existing powers to swap it out for others ones. Never plan to use 'Throw' or 'Concussion Ammo'? Why not swap it out for something you'd have fun with playing? (And of course more points so by the time you finish the game you feel like you did in ME1 - large and in charge with your dots lit up like lights on a Christmas tree)
7) Please don't waste a lot of time on multiplayer. I have Global Agenda, I have Unreal, if I'm buying the 3rd Mass Effect its not because I need another multiplayer FPS, and no one is going to go 'yea.. I'm not going to buy ME3 if it doesn't have multiplayer, what's the point'. If they bought ME1 and ME2 as single player, they want ME3 as single player. Just spend that time making ME3 truly epic instead!
8) Oh, and yes, I'm a fan of adult-content. My gf has boobies. I like the ones in games for the same reasons I love the ones on her - they are lovely and they make me happy. Not saying anything gratuitous and over the top, and if they don't fit don't put them in, but given that the average player age is 30 I think it should be safe to do what movies were doing 20 years ago and a side-boob won't kill a baby-angel. Unless the baby-angel is on Fox of course, then it will massacre the little git. Anyway so.. whatever you feel is appropriate, no more and no less.
9) This is just a bit in the field because I think 9 is a prettier number than 8, but more interaction with squad-mates during missions, so the one you took with you made more of a difference. Did really no one care that I was walking through major cities next to a Geth? Were my constant companions no closer to me then the guy I always left out by the garbage compactor because I didn't like the way he smelled? Let me chat with them sometimes, let me see the Krogen dance - it would add so much replay value if I felt compelled to see how different people would react to the worlds I am on, or even the missions! Also, point (6) should also help with how I'd have to take particular crew members because they filled in holes in the gap of the current class, instead of who I'd actually rather be fighting beside.
Ok, so that's my wish list Santa, good luck at the end of the year, hope you make it come true!
(Oh! one more! Can you make the Renegade-gaining options feel more like a tough-guy who does what needs to be done and less like a three year old who wants to pull the legs off baby-kittens? To me Renegade should sound more like 'You have orders to kill the next person walking in the room and its a kid, what do you feel? The recoil of my rifle Sir!', not 'I am going to push my potential hostage / manipulation tool out the window 'cause he smiled funny at me' There. 10!)
