Also, I have removed the Game Informer award because it was removed from the Wikipedia source and I did not find any other source. If anyone has it, please post.
@Mr Mxyzptlk: what about God of War 3, Heavy Rain, StarCraft II, Gran Turismo 5, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (and Vietnam), Civilization V and all of the other brilliant games? 2010 was an extremely rich year for video games, although I cannot help but feel that 2011 is going to surpass it, mainly because of the trio of BioWare releases.

I think 2010 is probably the best year in gaming ever. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a masterpiece and has the best soundtrack ever put in a game. StarCraft II is also brilliant.Mr Mxyzptlk wrote...
I must say it has been a pretty poor year for video games, apart from ME2 and RDR there was no real competition so it isnt surprising to see them take out most of the awards.

This has to be the most awards and recognition Bioware has ever received for a game. So to all the naysayers out there, how do you feel?
Annoyed.
This game was way overrated on all the review fronts.
If this game was so good, I would be on your side (and so would the vast majority of this community). Unfortunately, Bioware did such a good job bringing in a new fan base, that they alienated the original group.
GOTY for me was Heavy Rain.

I think Eurogamer is one of the best, if not the best, gaming site out there. So I'm really happy that ME2 is goty there, it certainly deserved. Not only eurogamer's but every single one of those.
They spent two pages ripping into the game for excessive streamlining and tearing out the heart of the Mass Effect franchise, and then they (seemingly reluctantly and begrudgingly) awarded it Game of the Year.
Shows how the credibility of game review sites have deterioated over the past decade, and how their accoldades mean diddly squat.

You must be reading the Eurogamer article from Earth 2 or something, if that's what you got out of it.

I was around since the first Neverwinter Nights and BioWare has done the exact opposite of alienating me. Dragon Age and Mass Effect series are the best franchises in gaming for me. Each of these games have been true masterpieces. It's one thing if you don't like the game and you constructively criticise it but to proclaim yourself as the voice of the community and speak in the name of those who might not agree with you is a completely different story.

Oh I never said I was the voice of everyone here, just that alot of genre loyalists feel a bit betrayed that Bioware copped out of making RPG's for a more "action" oriented game. Alot of hardcore genre producers are following suit, Bioware is just the latest...
Tom clancy did the EXACT same thing, by making games that are more for the casual gamer and not the hardcore/ immersive crowd. I used to feel so refreshed playing a game that took itself seriously and portrayed the gaming world in a REALISTIC fashion on the level that Clancy games used to. Not anymore.
I feel awful about this developer appeal towards the mainstream; as a result, gaming quality for the hardcore has all but become extinct.
The only real developer I have faith left in is Valve (Half life is the most epic saga in gaming history), but I'm awating the day that they hop on the money train and do as everyone else does.
I mean, think about where games have gone in the last 2 years... every single game aside from the E rated and sports focalized games involves a GUN/weapon of some kind. Destruction and violence has become synonymous with gaming, cuz if games don't have guns, they ain't good.
Did you know that Chaos Theory could be beaten by NEVER using 1 single bullet? And you actually got rewarded by not confronting people violently or even being SEEN... now that is refreshing for those of us who don't like taking lives unecessarily, even in games.
Remember back in the day when KOTOR came out and persuade skill points could be used to avoid confrontations altogether? KOTOR wasn't about the action, the blood or the gore; it was about the lessons and philosophy or choice in video game RPGS.
It seems that now, we need to have more gun ho cutscenes where Shepard breaks 3 guys necks and detonates a nuke just to keep the game "entertaining". That's just lazy writing. When action becomes the focus of a videogame, the game is no longer story immersive and the target audience is no longer "hardcore", but mainstream, casual, and dumb. Writing becomes secondary and explosions become bigger.
The same thing is happening in movies also, and frankly I am tired and numb of all the retarded action and CGI that people throw into films so that people get a 5 minute thrill and walk out of te theater so hopped up on mind numbing violence that they actually believe the film was "awesome".
Here is a tip for Bioware... if you REALLY want to appeal to the average gamer, don't make your games 30+ hours long anymore. Aim for 10 hours, add a gun battle every 2 seconds, remove all unecessary in-game dialogue and throw in a multiplayer component, then EVERYONE can enjoy Mass effect! And of course, there will be a GOTY award waiting for you at the end of the year guranteed!

That's a gross exagerration. There was exactly ONE contributer out of those interviewed that seemingly harped about the game to no end in their alloted section, and they were also the ONLY one talking about too much streamlining and ripping out hearts, Kristan Reed. Everyone else had more good things than bad things to say about it and NO ONE else was any where near as dramatic about it.
Of course that's par for the course on these forums, ignore the sea of people disagreeing with you and exagerrate the claims of those that do.

X2
I spend a lot of time here defending ME 2 and prefer my gunplay to behave like straight shooters in RPGS that are going to give me a targeting reticle to place on enemy dome pieces so a lot of people assume all I do when I'm not playing ME 2 is play COD or Gears. I've spent a ludicrous amount of time with past BioWare games like Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Kotor, and many other straight RPGs. I like the genre, I just also happen to like other genres and hybrids as well. I don't feel at all alienated by what BioWare did with ME 2, in fact I wholeheartedly welcome the vast majority of changes.
