I'd like to see how Mass Effect fairs next year with some actual competition. ME3 will have to stun us all (in a good way) if it's gonna pull another GOTY.

Even if 3 is better than 2, I don't think that it will get as many awards, due to the competition.

Wow ME2 manged to beat Uncharted 2 in the amount of the awards! I didn't think it was possible heh. Bioware you can be proud of yourself. ME2 totally deserves all those awards.



As for ME3: In 2011 there is gonna be a lot of competition from RPG games alone: DA2, Deus Ex 3, Witcher 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. And ME3 will release quite late in 2011 so it might not have enough time to beat the competition. Unless they release it in Jan 2012.



If ME3 is better and gets better reviews than ME2 did then there is a chance that it might become highest rated Xbox 360 game of all time.

I doubt it, the IGN awards were only given just yesterday and its Saturday now. I hope we see this article posted but somebody might consider floating a news source like Kotaku or something an email directing them to the list on the first page.

Amazing stuff.

Hopefully ME3 will surpass this, if it can overcome certain things like Skyrim which will be one of the main contenders.
Edit: Actually, even with Witcher 2, Deus Ex 3, SWTOR, Portal 2, DA2, I still think it will come down to Skyrim or ME3 for the most part.

@cachx: the Wikipedia article is the only one I found that contains a comprehensive and thorough list of all the awards together with the sources for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and since we are doing the exact same thing here, I think it is safe to say the information is, although unofficial, accurate (the number of awards for ME2 could only be bigger than we listed it if we missed some awards - it most definitely can't be smaller). And don't forget that the Wiki article about Uncharted 2's awards includes Best of E3 awards - if you add ME2's Best of E3 awards, the number is even larger.

Regarding the ME3 debate: let's not forget that ME2 already had really fierce competition this year (especially with RDR and SC2) and we cannot say just yet if all the heavy-hitters of 2011 are going to meet the expectations. I remember when ME2 was launched any GOTY debate didn't go by without someone pointing out that ME2 doesn't stand the chance with the likes of GoW3 and GT5 coming later in the year. Now, any site that awards GT5 with Game of the Year is not going to be taken seriously. That said, I'm really looking forward to the great RPGs coming next year and I hope that they deliver so that if ME3 wins the most awards, it will mean that much more.

ME3 will NOT get as many awards as ME2, no matter how good it is. This is because

a) the competition is a lot tougher in 2011. Only RDR was a challenge this year.

ME3 will mostly be more of the same and hence it won't impress critics as much.

c) the very late release date means people won't be as familiar with it as ME2 which had an entire year to spread its fanbase, gain popularity and be replayed and analysed in depth. ME3 might simply not have enough time to impress.
