Now the AIAS awards, next the BAFTA awards!

Mass Effect 2 doesn't seem to be stopping this record-shattering record streak.

I can barely imagine the pressure at Bioware, each passing day of Mass Effect 3 development must be pretty tough.

What I'm seriously exciting about is that ME2 won because of such good writing and storytelling combined with the solid mechanics. It's already clear that other game developers are moving in the same direction. Gaming has a very fun future.

so with this pressure, the developing time seems too short. don't you think?

If there's an area for Bioware to improve,it's as technology masters. You play Uncharted 2 and you have to respect the incredible work as far as sound design, level design, how cinematographic the game is,camera angles, etc. It also won 10 AIAS compared to 3 for Mass effect 2 (which won for best story, rpg and game of the year).

As far as rpg developers are concerned,Square-Enix still has the best tech behind their games. It's obvious when I look at the upcoming FF versus XIII that there's still great engineers working for SE (that's about all they have these days, tech and art design).

Western rpg developers are mediocre as far as high tech goes.Bethesda is sloppy in every area,Obsidian is almost inept and CD projekt are on par with Bioware which is decent. When will we see a wrpg developer who's able to push out superb technology in their rpgs?

Let me see if I understand this right...

This year we saw Bioshock 2, Starcraft 2, Grand Turismo 5, and Red Dead Redemption...

...And the best game of the year is a game that claims it's an RPG but is actually a shooter with AI from the mid 90's, a dodgy inconsistent story, and mind numbinly bad minigames.

This isn't striking anyone else as odd?

Nope, since every game you named had flaws as well.Especially Gran turismo 5 which received a lot of lukewarm reviews and was perceived as a disappoinment after the 5 years wait.Mass effect 2 was the highest rated outside of Mario Galaxy 2(a great if safe sequel),so it winning so many awards is similar to Uncharted 2 which was the best rated game in 2009.

Only way Mass effect 2 would of lost is if Uncharted 3 had been released in 2010.This year is interesting since we have Uncharted 3 and Mass effect 3,Gears of war 3+Diablo 3.L.A Noire which showcase impressive tech which will score points with the gaming industry.Add rpgs such as Skyrim,Dark soul and Dragon age 2 and it's a packed year.I even forgot about Portal 2 and Crysis 2...

I don't see Mass effect 3 winning against such competition, unless it's a cohesive game in all aspect ( even better gameplay, planet exploration, big payoff concerning the plot, effect of choices made in 1 & 2 are significant, etc).

Not sure if troll, still gonna reply...

Mass Effect 2 is an RPG. Having thousands of menues or a phat lewt system is not what constitutes an RPG. An RPG is about roleplaying, which ME2 certainly had. If you want thousands of menues, go play Football Manager or something.

The only part of your critique that makes any sense is about the minigames. They weren't too bad tbh, the problem was just that there was far, FAR too much of them. Especially the mining one, yes.

Anyway, Bioshock 2 and GT5 definately aren't better. I would say whether SC2 or RDR is better is matter of taste. Neither had better writing, but gameplay is a matter of taste.

i hate people who just throw out hateful comments what would be old is if a non imaginative game like modern warfare 2 or black ops was one of the most critically acclaimed games ever sure its fun and is the best selling game but it just doesnt draw you in like bioware games always do.

with that does that mean ME2 has had the most game awards ever even more the half life 2 so in terms of awards the mass effect trilogy is going to be the lord of the rings of games as it got countless awards.

They will pull it off....remember it's Bioware we're talking about here.

Wow, this list is incredible. I've never seen any single game win so many GOTYs. I think the last one I saw anywhere close was Halflife.

jeez, bravo Bioware

Added the GDC Awards, next up are the BAFTA Awards.

Hope it gets at least 1 more Author's and 1 more Reader's Choice, so that it'll be 100 and 60. :)
