I have a doubt, when I saw the stats saying more than or close to 50% of the ppl play as Soldier and almost the same thing when ppl voted for favorite class, it really doesn't feel right for me cause I have lots of friends who played ME and almost noone has soldier as a favorite class, my point is most of people just play as a soldier cause they do the fast costum Shepard and don't even choose the class, I really would like to see the stats if Bioware change the display of choosing class every time you start a new walkthrough.
I would like to eveyone post his favorite class, why it's your favorite class and How many classes experienced (by this I mean reached atleast lvl 20 with that class), also if you wanna comment something more you are free to do it.
ME1 favorite class - Infiltrator (IMHO, no contest, it's truly the best class for any difficulty level)
ME1 other classes experienced - Soldier, Adept
ME2 favorite class - Sentinel (really like Assault Armour)
ME2 other classes experienced (up to level 20) - Soldier, Adept, Vanguard, Infiltrator
The Soldier wasn't that great in ME1, where it was more about using multiple powers. In ME2, where the cooldown system restricted you to one power at a time, the Soldier started to shine.
I agree with OP there's a slight bias towards the Soldier as a default class, but it may also be popular as it's just simple and effective to play for veterans or noobs alike.

talking about ME1, I experienced Soldier, Adept, Vanguard and Infiltrator on ME1 and favorite goes to Adept, Singularity on ME1 is really powerfull, and spamming all the powers to take down a though enemy was really coolZombie Chow wrote...

But I've just started a new walkthrough with a male Vanguard, so we'll see how that goes.

In any event, no I have only played Vanguard and Infiltrator myself although given my general ease at adaptability, I can theorize how I would play the others. The pure casts merely are not my forte under the same principle I infrequently play a mage in a JRPG. Biotics being gimped on Insanity lessen a desire to run Adepts but my love Biotics will see a file sooner or later. Sentinel will come ahead of that more than likely though.

However playing as a solider in ME1 i felt very limited and the powers i had were not that great or useful to me. I found it boring, (probably because the combat mechanics in ME1 were not hat great). So i tried the infiltrator class next and LOVED IT! I liked the pistols in ME1 because i could upgrade them and rank them up so they were like assault rifles. In ME2 when they gave us the cloak ability made the class epic. Positioning my squadmates behind cover and then cloaking to get behind the enemy and then taking them out from two sides where they had no cover was amazing. It gave a feeling of actual tactics. Not to mention the fact that they fixed the sniper rifle mechanics. Easily hands down the best class. I do miss my overload ability though from ME1.

My paragon play-through was a Vanguard, I really enjoyed the class in ME1 (the Pinnacle Station sims were really easy on this class) but it took me a long time to adjust to the way they'd set the class up on ME2 and in the end I'd probably say I didn't enjoy it (it didn't help that I'd bumped the difficulty up) there were too many occasions where I got myself too exposed. On the plus side the fights with a vanguard are a lot shorter as you can cut off the enemy respawn quickly.
My renegade play-through was also a Vanguard (I think because I was trying for level 60 ME1) which I changed to Sentinel at the start of ME2 for my Insanity play-through, this is a very boring class to play but it is extremely durable, which is why I went with it for Insane.
I created a Soldier for ME2 because I had not intention of playing one in ME1 (too boring) and this was my quick play to see the other means of completing the game. The adrenaline burst was very useful but all the ammo's were a bit OTT and made it quite boring.
I'm now playing an engineer on ME1 and will then start an Adept on ME1 (to finish the achievements) and will likely bring them across to ME2. I doubt I'll play a sentinel on ME1 Kaidan's choices seemed a bit dull and having played a core biotic and tech I don't see the point.
So I'm kinda surprised the soldier comes out top dog, but my best mate has only played the Soldier on all his multiple play-throughs, his reason is he doesn't like the 'magic' style powers that everyone else has. So maybe there are a lot of people playing ME that are more FPS fans than RPG and for them soldier feels more normal. I think when my mate played ME1 he had Garrus and Ashley as his team so pretty much all combat (not sure who he used in ME2)

The other classes I never really liked. Sentinal gets on my nerves, Adept just isn't the great to me and engineer is just all around awful in my opinion. (If some of you guys like it thats cool)
And yes I've played every class and to be honest ME1 has shaped my opinion of those classes and I haven't even tried them in ME2 but maybe thats just personal bias.

That said I do enjoy all classes, but Vanguard has a special place.

The other two classes I played a lot of in ME1 were adept and vanguard (in that order).
Sentinel and engineer, partial playthroughs.
Soldier - just for the weapon achievements.
With ME2 being a whole lot more replayable, plus the save game editor, its easy to try out other classes on any mission you like as long as you have a save in the right place.
Adept would be my favourite here, but vanguard, infiltrator and engineer are all fun.
I haven't given enough time to sentinel and soldier, but they are comparitively boring - the first being little challenge due to tech armour, the second being little challenge due to tearing through things with bullets and AR.

Try playing a sentinel with Power Armor on insanity and a shotgun. Sure, it might not be super hard, but it is certainly challenging and extremely fun when you master it.

- ME1 favorite and most played class - Soldier
- ME1 other classes experienced (lvl 20, but never beat game) - Infiltrator, Engineer
- ME2 most played class - Soldier
- ME2 most favored class (up to level 20) - Vanguard
- ME2 other classes experienced (up to level 20) - Sentinel
I keep wondering how much do the controls impact player preferences for classes?
I also wonder if the bias towards the Soldier as a default class, might simply boil down to people using the default ShepLoo when they first pick up the game, both PC and 360.
How are those statistics recorded anyway?

Will do. When I get some time I'll give sentinel another go.spock06 wrote...

I've played Soldier, Vanguard, Infiltrator and Adept all the way to complete. Xbox player prefer soldier and vanguard because I put squad powers on auto. Its because of the limited controller and I like pause-free playing.

I had trouble getting out of my soldier vibe after my inital playthrough... my fav. class is probably a toss up between soldier and sentinel. I love flashbang grenade & AR cqc, but at the same time I love Assault Armor + Overload + Warp.
I do know I don't like the engineer as much... at least at lower levels. Glass cannons are just not my thing.

In ME2 it was the Adept. The adept was more powerful, wasn't bogged down by the extremely long cool down sessions of ME1. The class in ME2 had access to the same armor types as Soldier so it was a win win for me in ME2.

SOldier, is fun coz I love anything that gives me slow mo..
vanguard..... I guess is the opposite to most people.... charge gets too dull way too fast.
Sentinel... with a bit of modding.... god is so kool... but I wish it had ammo powers and adrenaline rush...then it would be perfect.

2) Vanguard both games.
3) Infiltrator: both games.
4) Engineer: ME1, haven't been able to do one in ME2 yet, don't like the early part of game.
5) Soldier: Both games
6) Sentinel: ME2 find to be boring, armor and roll not too much thought, in ME1 never really played.
I am hoping to get the Sentinel run I am currently doing finished, but it has stalled again, this time I did make it to the DCS. I also hope to run a Engineer with shotties though. Once I figured out the ME1 engineer out it turned out to be really strong class, so I hope the ME2 will do the same.

That's a good question. It doesn't go into detail, but explains it a bit here:
http://uk.pc.ign.com.../1118657p1.html
I wish it elaborated a bit more on those stats. Example - I'm not sure if 80% of players played a ManShep means 80% played on their 1st playthrough or only 20% of players play FemShep or only 20% of players play FemShep exclusively (never playing a ManShep) or etc.
