Hi. If one is to buy a new computer, what is more important for the toolset, the cpu, graphic card or memory? Would something like this be ok, and what change would make a big difference:

- Cpu: Intel Core i5 -750
- Graphic Card: Gigabyte GTX 460 (768MB)
- Memory: Corsair XMS 4GB DDR3-1600

Thanks.

at a guess - you wouldnt really need a stellar graphics cardm and the toolset seems to only use at most like 2GB ram.

the two big strains on the hardware performance as i see them are toolset loading up a module (HDD read speed maybe?) and lightmapping (all on the CPU i think, maybe ram).

so at a guess - prioritise CPU. although, im not even sure why im replying i dont know the first thing about hardware lol. maybe ignore me and wait for a better reply hehe.

I would assume whatever best system requirements for the game would be for the toolset. (I may be wrong of course)

I am personally very very glad I have a good graphics card, otherwise I don't think my work would carry far.
This is what I have (old computer):
Windows XP Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.67 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512 Mb
2 GB RAM
RME hammerfall hdsp 9632 Pro Audio card

and the tooslet runs fine, though I would have liked more RAM and CPU power for software reaction speed. But for me, I think my graphics card is my savior. The toolset has many graphics applications and that is my own primary focus.

That setup would be more than enough, and significantly more powerful than my current setup. The toolset is really going to be most heavy on the CPU - calculating lighting is the most intensive process, and most of the other "difficult" tasks are also CPU bound. It's not really too taxing on the GPU, but either way, that system will still perform more than adequately in the toolset.

The processor is probably the most important part, then the amount of ram, then the speed of ram, then the harddrive speed, then graphics card. The graphics card would only affect rendering really large levels with lots of polygons.

Also, make sure your processor is the bottleneck, not the graphics card. If you have a really good graphics card, chances are you won't be able to feed it enough data for it to be worth the price unless you have a really good processor.

why not rig 8gigs of ram? it's cheap and you should use a 64bit os. although da:o and the toolset are 32bit applications they can address up to 4gigs.

Thanks fellows. My laptop is making strange noises lately and I may have to buy a new computer soon enough. A new computer costs more that I expected, 8GB of ram sounds good though, then again I'll have to buy 64bit windows. Couldn't computer grow on trees...
