I absolutely know this. I'm one of them.

Ms. Loveydovy...what is your argument for first person perspective? Saying it will make it better has no substance or reasoning behind it.

Oh of course. First person in ME3, NO! But first person is still a good thing.

So you're saying that having a game in a first person perspective automatically makes the people playing it become hyper active trigger junkies?

I wasn't arguing over it until you decided too. I was trying to open minds and get truly thoughtful opinions about it.

A while ago there were statistics that said players skipped 15 percent of conversations in the game. Now either those were people who were replaying a certain part over again, or they were some trigger happy people itching for some more action. :P

I'd say the part where first person perspective fails for me in regards to adding it into ME3 is that it's a rather personal perspective to have your character be in. Situational awareness is limited to that of one character, but you'll have two others in your squad. If you are prone to using the whole squad as I am, a wider view of the battlefield helps.

Now, if there was a sequence where I had to take on the role of Thane sneaking into a top secret facility, then the first person perspective would add to the atmosphere greatly.

An argument is a perspective of views that are defended through reasoning. That is all an argument is.

How do you think first person could be implemented to the combat structure? Would BioWare revamp combat again to accommodate that perspective?

Scrollwheel it. Like Dragon Age, but it can zoom all the way from isometric top down into first person.

Why not? It worked for Metriod Prime(side scrolling to FPS). I know that Metriod was an adventure game, but I'm of the opinion that first person is a more than adequate perspective for RPG's.

I don't know, I don't remember how the camera perspective changed when playing DA:O on the console. But I do change it a lot while playing on the PC depending on my mood.

But that might be a reason 1st person might not work for ME.

Eh that's another thing that the Development team will have to manage. . . There are only so many controls - buttons on a console. .

I know of a couple things I was disappointed with in ME 2 that was taken or left out and that was the toggles for walk / jog and stand / crouch. . . but I assume they didn't add them due to (well fill in the blank for reason) constraints in development. . .

Oh and I assumed the lack of buttons on controllers 'might' be the reason, coupled with 'crunch' time. (Which happens)

Theoretically, I believe you could map it to L/R3 (push in the joystick) and have only so many zone options before it reverts back to the standard. Certainly not ideal and most definitely irritating but feasible. In any event, I am with Pacifien here. I utilize my squad mates frequently either for tactical purposes or cover fire. This would be exceptionally difficult from a first person perspective.

I think it would be an interesting addition to the series. Being able to choose between 1st and 3rd person view.

That would require a ****load of resources dedicated to it, wouldn't it?
So no.

If it was like Rainbow six (whatever happened to those games haven't anything about them in awhile) where you're in first person while you're moving but third person while in cover that might be cool. I'd like it if ME became a tactical TPS/RPG. I wouldn't want first person on the Normandy or on hub worlds though.

Go play Halo, and leave Mass Effect alone.

Rainbow Six series was suffering from some internal issues. . er *cough, cough* that is what I had heard. I used to play a MMO with one of the upper managers. This person sent me a few IM's about the difficulties they were going though. (Ah yea that was a few years ago now. . . *sighs*)

But anyway with out trying to spread too many rumors they ran into some fiscal troubles with it and decide to cut what they were planning for that series.

(or delay . . . This was just before the Rainbow 6 Vagas 2 came out and that project had already reached there final phase.)

DISCLAIMER: I didn't read through every page here, and I don't plan to. If somebody's already said what I am about to, then that's fine with me.

Ok, so 1st person vs 3rd person, is it? Okay. But first, why do we have to choose between 1st and 3rd person at all? It's because we exist as a camera in-game. A camera. Not two, but one camera, to simulate our two eyeballs. Neither way is going to really work. Personally I think a mix of both would be nice. Like they did with the sticky cover in Deus Ex: Human revolution. Might take some getting used to, but meh.

Thing I hate about fps games is you're a camera without even a hint of a body (or voice). Think HL and HL2. I look down to see where I'm stepping and notice that I have no legs! All I am is a camera with 2 disembodied arms holding a weapon.

The thing I hate about 3rd person is the opposite, particularly in ME2 (as opposed to ME). Namely, that now my body is obscuring the camera (me). I can barely see the environment because "I" am vblocking my view.

The thing I hate about both perspectives is that developers shy away from introducing distortion to the playgui. They like everything to seem right and good, architecturally etc.. and forget that we humans have a 180 degree field of view. Sure we can't tell what it is we can detect at 120 degrees, but we do see light, shadows, shapes and other thingies. Give us the 1st/3rd person switch option that Fallout 3 (and Morrowind, Oblivion) has. But give us new shaders too! How about setting the FOV to 120 degrees but have a radial blur shader to wipe out some detail at the extremes?

That's my 2 cents.
