I don't want FPS, I have motion sickness illness and it doesn't work well with FPS type of games. Also some TPS aren't good, because they camera perspective is same as in FPS. Meaning you character is like glued figure in front of screen, no other camera angle's at all. Also too close to your character, so they feel like FPS. To avoid motion sickness the camera has to be as far as possible and very calm when it comes to movements. Changing camera angles based cinematic situation seem to be fine, like swiching close up camera. It's not the switch of camera angle, but fast motions what cause problems.

I can see why you might be interested in seeing this, but the 3rd person perspective and method for this has been already strongly established as part of the ME style of gameplay - having it "tacked on" would feel a bit odd at the end of the trilogy. A lot of games, particularly action RPGs like Elder Scrolls/Fallout have been successful in allowing both, but I wouldn't count on this happening any time soon.

No, thanks. I'd rather they put their time into the story and characters to close out the series.

Yup.

Imo the Story needs some serious redeeming along with "rpg elements" after ME2.

I doubt there's money/time for FP.

@ kaff33nd

You spiked a memory of mine about VR. The main reason why developers shy away from putting distortion into these games is mainly due to the limitations set with your view screens. Also for some reason it didn't take with many during the testing phases
utilizing fairly flat screen monitors, I assumed this had something to
do with motion sickness. . but honestly I don't remember all of the
reasoning. So it's been tried in the past to varying degrees of success /
failure.

Some developers had tried warping / distortions flat screens with varied degrees of success in the past. By that I mean, as a PC user you could be in the 2 feet range from your screen. . . but console users may be at any distance. Plus it's tough to manage with the various different compression ratios various visual devices already have and various sizes each monitor could be. (or formats in other words, example wide screen vs normal and raw screen size.) Maybe the software has caught up these days? I guess I can't think of a sim or game thats doing this right now?

VR (Virtual Reality took roots in the late 80's for those that remember.) was created to solve these problems and thus so are special screens (though goggles and the like) they and other simulators employ . . . (eg visit A.C.E.s at the Mall of America in Minnesota, they have bubble like screens that rap around and give you a real feeling of flying (if you want to try a flight sim.)  By the way I can't remember if the Mall still has the NASCAR sims or not, nor do I remember how their screens were set up. Arcades used to have a few games (I'm not sure if they do anymore.) with
VR goggles as well, and for some reason I think they had a few with sit
down booths too?

3d and stuff also had issues with folks who experienced nausea issues, headaches, and more than a few people (again in the past - I'm not sure what movie goers think about it today.) found the glasses wholly lacking in comfort to set though a movie.

Still I've been pleasantly surprise BTW that 3d seems to be making a come back in theaters these days!

Plus maybe someone could enlighten us with some updated info ? I know my memory is scattered on some things.

There is an international saying that fits right into this discussion:

"if it 'ain't broke, don't fix it".

3rd person perspective is fine, and it lends to the whole storytelling experience since it makes it feel like an interactive epic movie. And i love the cover system.

Ignorant... it was more inclined to Fallout 3, which allows you to switch between FPS and TPS

I never played 1st in my life (unless I didn't have a choice, but I can't remember any game right now that didn't offer a choice), so no. Let them focus on the story and such, 3rd works just fine with the ME games.

Fat chance that's gonna happen. ME and ME2 were in 3rd person. What kind of reason would there be to change it into 1st person for the last game?

I wouldn't want it too change, why mess up a great thing? I mean they changed the combat around meaning it's not boring more fun in mass effect 2.

I don't like first person sorry but I will pass, I like the cover strategy system.

Sorry, OP, I do not think it would work.  In FPS games and Halo, the character is thin enough that I can manage to see myself as the character.  With Mass Effect (and Dragon Age), I see the game as me guiding a third party through their life.  The third person camera is perfect for that.

Also, I miss the hell out of your Emma Frost avatar.  :o:D:P

1) Not gonna happen, the game is already too far in development and devs already stated that there wouldn't be much change between the ME2 and ME3 mechanics.

2) For those who think that a 3rd Person Cover shooter won't work with a 1st Person View, go watch a Rainbow Six Vegas/Vegas 2 gameplay video, it combines both very well, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 specifically has a customizable PC, so that goes for not being able to see Shepard.

3) Some of the people here should really get off their mile-high horses, the amount of ignorance on this thread about what is simply A CAMERA ANGLE is staggering, so much for the intelligence of this community, especially those who just reading the word FPS go screaming COD**** or HALO**** as if they were the only FPSs ever, what happened to Half-Life or Portal or Deus Ex or System Shock or BioShock or Thief or Mirror's Edge or STALKER 1/2/3 or Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas that can all be played in a first person view, must've been part of my imagination then since CoD and Halo are all that exist.

Back to lurk-mode.

I would say NO in ME trilogy but I think a good implementation or mix between 1st and 3rd person could work under some circumstances or e.g. as game mechanism.
Both have their pros and cons.
I'll say 1st person or fov is less cinematic and has a non realistic angle view, but can be more inmersive..., the contrary to the 3rd (more cinematic, better angle view but probably less inmersive).

I wish blowhards like Politeassassin would quiet down. If you think ME1 gameplay was better than ME2, you're in massive denial.

This thread is worth it just to see the haters get their panties in a twist.

As a PROUD fan of both the shooter AND RPG genres, I support this idea IF (a) you can toggle between first-person and third, as the op said, and (B) it doesn't divert resources from smooth graphics elsewhere in the game.

Maybe if you removed offensive posts on the first page of a thread, you wouldn't have to deal with insulting replies

Why do people use Fallout and Oblivion as if everybody likes them? I'm a huge rpg fan, and I thought those games sucked. There was oodles of stuff to do, and the graphics were great, but I didn't like the first person, the third person toggle looked horrendous, and the gameplay motion is WAYYYYYYYY too stiff. Oblivion more so than Fallout.

I like Mass Effect the way it is...people like me who are trying to keep the game true to its roots don't want it ruined by new concepts from other games I don't like. If I want a first person rpg, ill go buy those games. Until then, I'm going to stick to Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed.

The reason Mass Effect pwns all other games, in my opinion, is because it is what it is. When you meddle with a good thing by making a vast array of changes, the probability of a ruining it extensive.

@ The Ayes (from the Nay perspective)

The problem is you are suggesting yet another "encroachment" of FPS mechanics into ME. The mechanics implemented between 1 and 2 seem to have come at the expense of story and plot. We have ended up with bite sized missions, generic "mission complete" screens, limited character interaction, and a story short enough to play through in a single day.

ME1= Baldurs Gate

ME2= Icewind Dale

We have seen the thin edge of the wedge, and we dont like what we see.

@ They Nayers (from the Aye Perspective)

Many of you are asking for the return of "crouch". This motion is available in other FPS games, yet you dont seem to validate that point. We are simply asking for a view toggle. Many of you believe that a change of camera angle will "break" the cover system by forcing Shepard to look directly at his/her feet. If crouch is returned, then let us worry about cover manually. Toggle of on/off cover mode to go with camera mode.

Camera=3rd person. CoverMode=On

Camera=1st person. CoverMode=Off

(devils advocate mode=off)

If its as simple as above, then I don't really care if they implement it.

Would I play it in FPS mode? As a Vanguard, yeah, just for a more "in your face" experience. Probably not with any other class though.

Stop being ignorant and comparing games. It's still Mass Effect. Just because you don't like Halo doesn't mean every 1st person view is connected to it.

And don't be stupid for 2 reasons. He's not being ignorant. 2nd, not every ****ing game needs a 1st person view.
