My brother in-law decided to try the Me2 demo on PS3... he never played ME1 or ME2, but he's fairly familiar with them since he's watched a lot of my youtube vids I have on both games.

However, he's purely a Ps3 gamer... so he was delighted to try it finally...

Well it seems like for now he's not buying ME2 on Ps3 after playing the demo... he told me that the game has horrendous frame rate drops, frequent screen tearing and general poor performance... during both gameplay and dialogue.

I decided to drop by his house and check it out... and sure enough, it was atrocious... I run ME2 on a midrange PC on full settings at 1440x900 resolution and it runs like silk... I've played it on Xbox and it runs flawlessly as well.... but on PS3? Wooaa... it was unacceptably bad.

Why on earth did you release this horrific PS3 demo? I thought maybe it was my brother in-law's PS3.. maybe it was damaged or soemthing... but it isn't.

Just go to youtube, search for ME2 PS3 demo... and watch the intro, they all pretty much have the exact same screen tearing and frame rate loss I saw on his ps3.... so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident.

Did Bioware even test the damn demo? Or watch it? It may be an earlier build than the final version, but it's scared him off from buying it.. and probably a fair number of other people as well.

The worst though was during combat... anytime you tried to spin around quickly to face another direction, the FPS often dropped to what looked like no more than 20fps.... ugh.

I really hope Bioware doesn't release the full version on the ps3 in this state.... you'll burn yourself with ME3 on the ps3 if you screw up ME2

I'm not a ps3 gamer, so I don't personally care that much... but I want ME2 / 3 to succeed as much as possible... and this is not how you succeed

Edit: Maybe it's because the PS3 console can't handle the epicness of the game? That's why it should be played on an Xbox, or PC. I'm not going to start a console war or anything because I own all 3, but there are certain games I like to keep exclusive to to a certain console due to performance, and I have all 3 because of exclusive games.  I would have gotten it on the PS3, but no ME1= absolutely not for me. No comic will suffice for that.

Oh.. on the upside... the new explosions kinda sound better (or at least, different, heh) and some textures were increased significantly in resolution (i.e. Jacob's armor and even regular stuff like Cerberus clothing).



Still, the framerate loss and frequent screen tearing won't draw in new gamers to ME2... I'm assuming it's just because it's a demo and the full release won't have these issues... but if people play the demo, many will assume the full version will have the same problem and not buy it.

Tell your friend to invest in a 360 and purchase ME1 for less than $20 and enjoy the trilogy like the rest of us.

Never understood the issue with console wars... nothing should be console specific period...as long as everyone gets the same deal is fine.

Chris, my OP was not a bashing on the PS3 (if you look close, you'll notice I never once said anything derogatory about the console)... my post was simply to voice my concern that the MAss Effect series was having its image harmed by this flawed / buggy demo on the Ps3.... I was at no time claiming PCs or Xboxs are better than ps3... just that I am baffled why you guys released this messed up demo that puts ME2 in a bad light... people will think ME2 is broken on PS3 and it won't sell well (which I want it to.. since I want the damn ME franchise to prosper.. regardless of what console / system its on).



Anyhow, sorry if my OP spurred others into a stupid console war.. that was not the intent... the intent was to hope you guys do something about that buggy/broken demo (patch it or something ASAP).

I don't know if you know or not, but they are releasing ME2 with the ME3 engine on the PS3. That is probably why it wasn't working up to standards or something you aren't used to viewing. Also demo is well... a demo.

I played the ps3 demo and loved it. Seemed fine to me. I haven't seen any real differences between this and the 360 versions, but maybe I was too busy shooting stuff to notice.

Edit: The only thing that almost scared me away from the demo is the sheer size of the download. My god that thing is huge! I fully intend to buy the PS3 version, even though I already played ME1 and ME2 on the xbox. I love the game that much and I'll have a backup should one of my consoles crap out.

i dont really know what ur talking about. there was screen tearing once when i played and the frame rate never dropped for me at all! idk, maybe im a fluke!

EDIT: also, and this has happened with other games as well, at one point, certain sounds don't come out. like moving through the menus make no beeping, and biotics make no noise, and no sound when switching weapons. everything else is good though. I loves the demo and if ur friend is missing out on one of the best games of all time simply because of a graphical issues in the DEMO or as of yet unfinished game, thats his loss.
