My brother in-law decided to try the Me2 demo on PS3... he never played ME1 or ME2, but he's fairly familiar with them since he's watched a lot of my youtube vids I have on both games.

However, he's purely a Ps3 gamer... so he was delighted to try it finally...

Well it seems like for now he's not buying ME2 on Ps3 after playing the demo... he told me that the game has horrendous frame rate drops, frequent screen tearing and general poor performance... during both gameplay and dialogue.

I decided to drop by his house and check it out... and sure enough, it was atrocious... I run ME2 on a midrange PC on full settings at 1440x900 resolution and it runs like silk... I've played it on Xbox and it runs flawlessly as well.... but on PS3? Wooaa... it was unacceptably bad.

Why on earth did you release this horrific PS3 demo? I thought maybe it was my brother in-law's PS3.. maybe it was damaged or soemthing... but it isn't.

Just go to youtube, search for ME2 PS3 demo... and watch the intro, they all pretty much have the exact same screen tearing and frame rate loss I saw on his ps3.... so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident.

Did Bioware even test the damn demo? Or watch it? It may be an earlier build than the final version, but it's scared him off from buying it.. and probably a fair number of other people as well.

The worst though was during combat... anytime you tried to spin around quickly to face another direction, the FPS often dropped to what looked like no more than 20fps.... ugh.

I really hope Bioware doesn't release the full version on the ps3 in this state.... you'll burn yourself with ME3 on the ps3 if you screw up ME2 :(

I'm not a ps3 gamer, so I don't personally care that much... but I want ME2 / 3 to succeed as much as possible... and this is not how you succeed :(

I couldn't agree more.

After playing the demo i was horrified at how bad it was, certainly not on par with the 360 game, nevermind better, ie the definitive version. LMAO

From the screenshots and video's IGN and various other gaming websites had shown, the demo is likely a totally different game. I really hope the full game is ALOT more polished than this, or this will be a bargain bin buy, i'm really disapointed.

If this game is on the new ME 3 engine, then it doesn't give me hope for ME 3 on the PS3 either.:(

From my experience, Liara is only there if you romanced her. On the default play-through, both Ashley and Kaidan are aboard the ship depending on your sex.

My guess is VS will be determined in the comic, and you can't have Ashley or Kaidan on the ship if there's a chance either could die in the comic.

If you start a new ME2 game without importing any ME1 saved game, LIara isn't there at the opening. Depending on Shepard's gender, either Ashley or Kaidan is there. For PS3 demo, it assumes Liara was the love interest from ME1.

First the hype of ME2 on PS3 using ME3 engine has better "graphics". Just see how many PS3 gamers got excited by the hype of using ME3 engine on ME2 for PS3. How many question if ME3 engine is ready? Most just assume the new ME3 engine early on ME2 has to be better. ME3 game is still a year away and so is ME3 engine.

Now we have played the PS3 demo. Important question is why the demo has poor framerates and screen tearing.

For ME2 for PS3 to be using ME3 engine a year earlier, this means ME3 engine is still in beta with bugs and not optimized. From development point of view, it's a good chance to beta test ME3 engine on ME2 for PS3 to flash out the bugs.

Played the first part of the demo.....Used brightness setting + 1, turned film grain off for my presentation.......there is the occasional framerate hiccup and screen tear here and there, but nothing that was shocking.....definitely not as smooth as the 360 version though, but absolutely a decent port to the PS3.....with all due respect to Hudson in regards to this being the definitive version, thats all marketing.

PS3 users would be crazy not to get this though......nothing in the demo screamed 'pass' due to those issues

THE CONSOLE WARS NEED TO STOP

This forum is NOT for Xbox 360 fans, or PC fans, or PS3 fans to say "I am cooler than you because I use "X" and you don't". If you cannot keep your narrowminded platform bigotry to yourself, you will not be posting here.

Haha you should have saw that coming when the game was going to be officially released on the PS3. No console wars are as heated as the ones between Xbox and PS3 fans.

It's a fine example of just how %$#&ing dumb the Xbox vs PS3 console war is, though. Some game you've had for a year comes out on a platform you don't own? Clearly a reason to cry on the internet for three months because, well, how else are you going to make sure this affects you?

Now come on...

I agree that they are very silly... especially if you are a moderator, but you have to admit that even Bioware uses console wars to it's advantage to build hype, sell games, and make money.

The reveal for ME2 on PS3... all that drama to say that it was coming out on PS3.  The console fanboy fallout made that announcment go viral.  And how about the early IGN exclusive preview of ME2 on PS3 that had IGN hyping that ME2 on the ME3 engine for PS3 looked better than the 360 version... especially side by side.  Why no mention that the PC version has always been the best version?  Now that the actual demo is out, things look to be more at par.  Was that marketing?  Did Bioware recriut IGN to help spark some console wars fire all in the name of building hype and publicity?

N4G is now flooded with ME2 PS3 vs 360 comparison articles that are creating a lot of user traffic... all pointing a finger at IGN.  TRANSLATION: Hype and free advertising.  Flame the console war fire, and Bioware wins.

Didn't BW say the game went Gold? Doesn't that mean the Demo is pretty much the finished game?

Nah, demos that are based on final game are a rarity - i say that PS3 demo is an early build of PS3 code and that the sutters/bugs are fixed in the final product. Anyway, I'm a bit sceptical and I'm not getting the game until I see comparisons between full versions.

I suppose you should stop posting then. Considering in your videos you were touting how the PS3 version was better and the definitive version. You even went so far as to bring up disc swapping which was a not so subtle jab at 360 users.

If you don't want console wars look in the mirror. Your statements have started quite a few of them.

It must be his PS3, because I did not encounter any frame rate drops, screen tearing, or poor performance of any kind. If anything, it was better then the PC version (except for having to use the controller).

Why do people make outlandish claims like this ?  No it doesn't look better than the PC version.  The game is natively rendered at 720p and around 30fps.   A midrange PC with £100 graphics card can easily render Mass Effect 2 natively at 1080p and get 60fps.

That's a joke, right? Console version will not outplay a PC rig

LOL. Here we go. Shepards eyebrow problem was fixed, the shadows looked better, the graphical face glitches were gone, everything looked enhance (better bloom?), there were three instances of things that were not present in the PC version (broken holographic display when talking to Joker, extended explosion during Shepards death, Mordin's 'goodbye' dialogue was fixed').

Your turn. And don't bother saying frame tearing or FPS drops. My FPS was fixed at 60 and I did not encounter any frame tearing at all. Maybe because I don't smash my PS3 with hammers and leave it running for weeks on end.

Does the PS3 version run at 1080p and 60fps constantly ? erm nope it doesn't the PS3 version runs at 720p and 30fps but here you are making outlandish claims about the PS3 version looking better than the PC version.

That'd make no difference since either could die in ME1 yet you could get them if you romanced them, or not if they're the opposite gender and survived.

I appreciate your concern, but i'm not crying. Just trying to rub the inferior version to bioware's  face because they lied to the PS3 gamers. Thats all :)

100% agree with this.  I'm sure most of us can say that we've seen interviews with BioWare staff claiming that the PS3 version of ME2 is the 'definitive' version.  Nobody to blame but themselves when this crap starts.  And it is crap.

My demo worked fine...few sound glitches...but its a demo. I didn't notice any frame rate or screen tearing on my playthroughs. Sorry, but it must have been your download or something, but mine works fine. Either way i'm sure Bioware will live without your brothers money.
