How do you feel whenever somebody dismisses Mass Effect as a Star Wars rip-off???

Project Lazarus was part of Earthforces cyber experiments initiated during the
late 2230s
After the early experiments found that Humans couldn't function with machines in their brains,
Lazarus began using subjects on the verge of death such as accident victims,
wounded soldiers and coma patients. The running theory was to hardwire the
subject's brain with a computer intelligence that kept the brain functional
while the body was surgically repaired. After which a telepathic deep-scan would fixate
the subject on the moment of their death shutting down all conscious thought and
allowing the computer to exert complete control while the subconscious is dying
over and over again. The computer's power crystal emits a low level of a benign
ironium radiation that, while not normally detectable by nominally configured
environmental scanners, could be used to track a Lazarus subject.
Too similar to be ... coincidence ...

Plus mass effect does things differently the previous sci-fi films do not know any that have a race of machines than have a cycle of wiping of all civilization in the galaxy. Plus they design the levels etc more like the old retro future worlds shows etc not like star wars where everything looks the same with odd bits and pieces to make it look futuristic

Reminds me a lot more of Babylon 5 than Star Wars.
Also, I don't feel like ME is a rip off of anything. Sure a lot of stuff has similarites, its impossible to be 100% original but a lot of people use the term rip off when they are one of two things. 1. Is super fanboys/girls that feel like their "original" show or whatever is being encroached upon though the means of a similar show/game and they want to say "Well my show/game did this first" to defend what they enjoy (I'll admit I've made this mistake a couple times myself). 2. Are cynics who want to complain about stuff and sound smart.
There are rip offs out there and claiming them as such is fine but calling a show/game a rip off just because it has some similar elements is just dumb. That being said, I've never heard anyone claim ME to be a rip off of anything. I have seen a few things that remind me of B5 but ME is still its own thing. If anything it combines a bunch of different elements from multiple shows/games and that sort of blending I find makes both great games and shows.

This can hardly be all that surprising? The people who made ME had worked on SW games for years. It was bound to influence their future work.

A. As long as there is no "head reaper" with a 2 meter wide hole that goes directly to the ezzo core... then is not a rip off.
B. There is no "head male" in love with this weirdo girl... and although hardcore star war fans still believe that romance was believable... for me is like trying to convince you that a pillow on top of another pillow is pornographic... that is how believable that romance was.
C. The main good character turns bad... in the most ackward way possible.... the father of all emos was born... just cuz an old geezard told him... without him rectifying it with anyone. Although anyone he could have asked is dead or on the run.
Overall. Star Wars.... just no... star wars books... sure they may have influenced something. But not the Star Wars movies.

Oh, please. The Star Wars movies, which literally practically everybody is familiar with to some degree (especially the original trilogy) and have been a huge part of pop culture for decades, were little to no influence on the ME writers, and it's more likely the far less known and far less popular books were? C'mon. Sorry, that's just ridiculous. That makes about as much sense as claiming that Star Trek fanfic is a more likely influence than the various series/films.

doesn't mean if is "popular" Books only need to appeal to those who find them. besides non of the cliche's and stupidity found in the movies were in the knights of the old republic... but I duno.
Still, thank you... your rebuke is very.... warm lol.
Either way whether or not it was influenced by star wars is surely not as stupid.
Now has it had a hyge part in pop culture of course, some good came out of it. Imagination, new frontiers, what lays beyond, faith, sci fi.
Certainly were not the overly stretched romance, totally retarded 2 meter hole which blows the empire. Or the fact that defeating the empire seemed more akin to a board game than an actualy interstellar war.
Like robot chiken said it :
Lt. 1: Omg sir... they just killed the emperor, we must mobolized all nearby fleets to destroy the rebel alliance once and for all.
Lt. 2: No no we can't, they destroyed the death star as well, we lost.
Lt.1: what? we have nearby fleets which could trap the alliance and win the war!!!
Lt2: you dont understand the rules were for the alliance to kill the emperor AND destroy the death star, only then would the winning objectives be fufilled.
LT1: what? that doesn't make sense.... we have thousands of ships, dozens of fleets at our disposal the entire clone armies are more or less intanct, are you telling me we can't use them??!!!
lt2: yes thats exactly right, before they only destroyed the death star, but this time they destroy both targets, so it means we lost... nothing to do about lt 1.
lt1:...so thats it we lost? ....now what?
lt2: I dont know... want to grab a latte(probably mispelled)?
lt1: that sounds wonderful actually, let's go.
The story mentioned before... certainly had no contribution to pop culture

Supposedly most if not all of Shakespeare's plays are not original stories. Julius Caesar, King Henry V, and even Romeo and Juliet . . . In the end, it isn't so much about originality more than it is about how well a story is written, that determines how good it is. And ME 1 and 2 are well written.
