....I think i said enough?

If you want to be able to kill,
support and survive. What whould be the best build for an archer? I
would like to have your oppinions in every detail. I even want to know
what race to pick!

This will become my first archer playthru so I was hoping to get some advice so I will not have to come back here 1000 times to dig through the forum in search of a decent guide which will maybe help me out :)

I haven't given it much thought but I think I would go for somekind of build looking like this :

- Dwarf race ( noble)
- Roque!!!!! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]
- Bard & Ranger Specs
- All of the archer talents
- Stealth ( 4)
- A lot of Dex?!

Hope you can give me some advice or tell me that I was thinking in the right direction [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png[/smilie]

Thanks!

Dalish elf. Same build except stealth which you should reserve for your backstabber. Invest in Lockpicking instead.

Next time i'm going through origins, i'm doing this exact build.

And go for mastery and arrow of slaying first! Arrow of slaying will end any mage before he gets dangerous and Mastery will boost your effectiveness in general.

thanks!

So I should not use stealth? Even if i have another roque in my party that will invest in lockpicking?

Stealth shots are auto-crit if they hit, so I advise taking at least Cunning 22 for the bonuses.

And I love my Dwarven archers! Elves may have better starting bows, but they also have all attribute bonses in Magic & Willpower.

I think I will go for dwarf, because of those attribute bonusses...human would also be a good choice I think, but i've been human way to much so it's time for a little change!

I think this will be the build I do next. I have a new DNF Rogue I was thinking of making her a backstabber but I think I will respec her as an archer. I've done numerous stabby stab stab rogues already.

Here's what I'm thinking I'd love some feedback

Attributes:

Str =>20

Dex as much as possible

Cun at least 22?

Skills:

coercion 4

Combat training 4

Trap Making whatever is left

Talents:

Dirty Fighting

Lock picking 4

Stealth as muc has I canget

Full Archer trees

Specializations:

Ranger

Bard

Dead Legion Scout

@ Broznan - You will require 30 Cunning to disarm and open almost all traps & locks in the game, so I recommend this as a base goal. Higher Cunning may also be helpful for Bard songs.

Myself; I prefer STR of 38 for heavy armor, and taking Duelist & Assassin for the subclass bonuses, including more DEX.

Hmm thanks, I'm still kind of oblivious of some of the att requirements for skills. Glad I have the respec mod now so I can play around and see what works best.

Arrow of Slaying has a 3 second start up so if you use that you definately should be cloaking to cover for that as even the bugged repeater gloves (3.0 rapid aim bonus...) in the Return to Ostagar DLC won't help with that start up time.

The Dragon Age Wiki article: Archery: An Efficient Appoach will be a great help in molding an archery character.

You know thats not the ultimate archer build right? its pretty medicore.

http://dragonage.wik...icient_Approach

Give that a therough read.

For Rogues the 100% Crit cunning Build (With Bard/Duelest or even Bard/Assassin) is probably best.

You can build some very intresting Warrior Archer builds though too and in Awakening onwards they are capable of the single highest damage possible in the entire game because of Spirit Warrior. (You can actualy build a pure Str crossbow Archer since xbows use str instead of dex, or so I hear)

I thought Crossbowwws didn't draw on any attribute due to one bug or other? Has that been fixed?

Personally I don't care about the "ultimate" build just one that will be effective and fun.

From the Wiki:

Bug! As of patch 1.03, crossbow damage is not affected[/u] by either strength or dexterity. The same bug is reported to exist in Xbox360 and  PS3  versions of the game.

Personally, I have not used them and bolts for anything other than gold.

Well at least if you are on PC you can get a mod and get it working.

Is a useful mod for fixing xbow back to how it was.
