Hello Valen fans.

I have a little problem with the Valen romance and I thought maybe you can help me out. Somehow I think my game got bugged and the romance didn´t start in chapter 2.

The last talk I had was about how he left the abyss and went to look for the Seer. By this time I had done 3 of the 5 quests. I had the Illithid and the Beholders left. So I went to the Illithid city and after killing the elder brain I slept and there was no conversation with Valen, I thought that maybe it was because I had to keep progressing in the game so I did the Beholder´s lair and nothing. I realized something was off when I had the dream with the Valsharess and still nothing from him... (it is my first game but after playing so many bioware games you just know your romance is going to say something before a big battle!) Won the battle, killed the Valsharess, gone to Cania... nothing. He doesn´t say a thing and when I ask him about what he wanted to say earlier he keeps telling me about the spider caves under the Beholder´s lair. So I left the game and started to look for his dialogue lines on the internet to see what was I missing and I found out that the romance should have been started by now so I wonder if there is a way to unlock the romance without having to play from the Undead lair again. Can anyone help me out with this? Is there a way to trigger his dialogues so I can load a pre-final battle game and start the romance before Chapter 3?
Also I realized that there wasn´t much flirting with him because it was always Nathyrra who kept talking to me about the dangers ahead of us. So I am wondering if that could have affected the romance. The only real dialogues we had were those after resting and as I said the last one was when he apologizes for being distrustful.

Humph, I am really such at trigger stuff manually like this. So as much as we all hate, I would suggest you to go back and play the whole lovely Underdark quest again.

Like KOTOR series, the only way to make sure you don't miss anything is keep talking to him like there is no tomorrow. A new line option would be there if there is something new. BioWare games worked mysterious ways in those days.

Oh, btw, have you download the Valen patch? They fixed that littke glitch in Act 3 and we got more romance scene in it.

I downloaded a Valen fix and also some mimic dialog stuff... I was excited to try this but we'll see.
Yesterday I spent some time trying to fix the problem and I discovered something so I was wondering if you could help me out. Do you know how many dialogs does he have with you before saying that he loves you? And do you remember where exactly (meaning chapter) does he make his confession?

After replaying the fight with the Valsharess I got a dialog in Cania (outside in the snow) where he said something about admiring me. I figured it was THE DIALOG because it started like one of the videos i saw in Youtube so that actually confused me since I was in act 3 already and I can't blame that to setting his Romance to 1 via debugmode because I had a similar conversation with Nathyrra a little later. So I guess that i was getting a frienship talk instad of a romance one?

I have the same problem as Kyda honestly, though I've gotten the romance to work in the past. I wonder what I did to make it not work this time. Anyways, I'll take the advice that was given to her and restart the whole thing. Hopefully that will do the trick.
Edit: Annnndd, the toolset is being a butt and won't let me implement the damn fix for Valen. Do I really need it when I have the game patched up to 1.69?

If your game is patched up to 1.69, it should work, although you won't get all of the conversations (two in Ch. 2, one in Ch. 3, and the mimic scene, if I remember right). I'm not very good with the toolset, but hopefully someone else here knows it better. What, exactly, is it not letting you do?

In the neverwinter nights directory there is a file called nwnplayer.ini Open the file in notepad and find the line that says ''CODEWORD XP2='' or some variation thereof. Change it to: 

CODEWORD XP2=barkeater 

If there isn't a ''CODEWORD XP2='' line then just add it somewhere between the ''[Game Options]'' and ''[Control Options]'' lines. After putting this in you should be able to access all the chapters for the expansion campaign.

(Not written by me, as I forgot what the codeword was.

Do the above, and you should be able to access the chapter in the toolset. The game doesn't allow you to access modules you haven't completed.

This makes me really wish I still had my old computer working, as I have completed all the vanilla campaigns back then.. But this was a new install, and my first time tinkering with the toolset, so I had no idea that could happen. Thank you for telling me. ^^

I know this thread has died down recently, so I don't know how many people still check it regularly, but I figured this would be as good a place to ask my question as any.

I've finally caved and started writing a Hordes/Valen fan fic. I started playing the game again, but because I've written such an elaborate backstory for my first PC (ok, maybe not that elaborate, but still) I'm having a hard time roleplaying my current character properly.  I'd successfully differentiated between the two through SoU, but for some reason I can't do it in HotU. In my mind, I've tied the adventure too closely to my first PC that I can't imagine it unfolding for another character. I hoped that writing about my first PC and getting her story set in stone would help me overcome this, even though I've never done something like this before. I wrote a little bit and had a blast, and I thought that since NWN is such an old game, maybe people wouldn't mind the story being revisited again. I know I've enjoyed reading the stuff posted here; it's like spending time with old friends when I can't actually play.

The thing is, I don't have the faintest idea of how to "publish" it. I just want to have some fun and NOT GET SUED, so how do I ensure that doesn't happen? Also, where would be a good place to post stuff like this? I've seen people use their BSN blogs, but others use outside sites. Also, would anyone even want to read it, or should I just keep my story to myself?
