lol ok way to overreact and be gross while you do it.

I didnt say she needs to look like a bimbo, I was saying that her face has some pretty masculine features. Just look at her.

Again, she isnt ugly...just...not feminine at all. And the "you don't respect women because you think they should be pretty" is the stupidest argument I've ever heard, so lets avoid that one. I just think she could have had a bit more feminine elements. Better natural hair (no need for complicated, just better) and better face/bone structure.

Proof that female soldiers can be hot and completely believable and respectable (ie: not Miranda)

Those two are real actual soldiers in the Israelian Army, they work in the Sniper Recon Training School.

Would there have been anything wrong with making ashley the rugged yet delicate beauty that she could have been? Instead of giving her a guy's face?

Human nature does indeed seem to be to look upon how someone actually is and think about how they could look better. Someone doesn't find another attractive? Well then, the unattractive better do something about it. They don't want to go through life knowing they aren't as hot as they can possibly be, they'll never get a man that way.

ETA: Personally I have no problem with the way Ashley looks and feel she can look exotic should she put on the tinfoil skirt and thigh-high boots. Alas, fighting geth does not provide her with the opportunity. But nevermind what I think, it's about whether you think she's attractive or not that apparently matters.

WTF are you talking about?

I'm saying it's common sense to see that isn't somehow a female obligation to make oneself sexually attractive. Which would appear to be your point.

No, that wasn't my point. What made you think that was my point?

My point was that it's human nature to base sexual attraction on physical appearance. There are exceptions of course, but as a general rule it's true.

If you want people (especially men) to stop judging the sexual attractiveness of other people by appearance then keep dreaming, cos it isn't ever going to happen. And calling it "male chauvinism" is just insulting.

Edit: As a side note, if we were discussing a real person then I'd consider this thread to be in rather poor taste. People have feelings. But it isn't a real person, it's a fictional person who has been designed, so I really don't see what's wrong with critiquing the design.

I'm not sure how you can think this isn't an inflammatory thing to ask.
Whether Ashley is "attractive" or not by any standards is thoroughly irrelevant. She looks the way she looks and no superficial outcry will change that.
And personally, I happen to find her the most attractive human squad member in either game, save only Jack.

Jack would be waaaaaay hotter with hair and you know this.

That's entirely subjective.

ALl I want from female bodies, is that they have a chest piece, like space marines from alien movies, or metroid prime naval soldiers.

Imagine Samus Aran armor when it comes to her breast, just a triangular piece that accomodates her beautiful bumps, but shows no sign of them. On top of which aiding in deflection of incoming enemy fire. Sexy, useful, and down right common sense.

Since the impetus of this little exchange was my comment about women thinking about the status of their hair in regards to their attractiveness, perhaps the "male chauvinist" nature of my post should be described in better detail. I certainly don't intend to be insulting in such a manner.

However, sexual attraction is relative. Because one finds Ashley unattractive or masculine does not make it so for everyone. Nor would I think someone like Ashley would really care.

You'll see I removed that part because it wasn't the case, and it was a knee-jerk reaction on my part.

But either way, the point wasn't that I deplored the state of things in a world where human beings pass judgement on other human beings based on their physical appearance, (which I still do, but I see the inescapable truth in it) but rather that those whom someone might label "unattractive" has no obligation to render themselves "more attractive" for the benefit of anyone else.

Also, dismissing the whole thing as a "feminist issue" made me think it would be alright if I dismissed your angle as "male chauvinist".
You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

I never thought of any of the humans as being terribly hot, for some reason. Probably I'm working more off their personalities, and there, I'm happy with Liara.

Uh dude, I think you may be looking at this the wrong way, you seem to be taking this personally when I'm just making an observation of what I, personally, think of Ashley's looks. If someone really had the issue of "never getting a man unless they're as hot as can be" then I would feel bad for them, because having a meaningful relationship isnt only about being hot.

But again, thats besides the point here. Im glad that you like Ashley the way she is. I never intended to say that she should wear a tinfoil skirt and high heel boots. My complaint is with her masculine face, how did you go from that to thinking I want her to dress like a stripper?

I even criticized Mirandas look for how she is completely "comic book" in a game where she is supposedly engaging in combat.

As to your last point, thats exactly what Im saying. Whether I think Ashely is pretty is what matters. Thats the point of this discussion thread, to throw opinions back and forth on her facial looks.

Its really crazy, I made a completely subjective opinion based observation about her face and how it looks masculine, and in a short time there's so many people trying to turn this into a women's rights issue because somehow I said she needs to look like a floozy going clubbing.

Holy crap, if people want to uphold women's rights lets just talk frankly and openly about what we think about someone's looks. If I had made a similar observation about Kaiden like "Kaiden could be hotter because he has bad hair whatever"

Im pretty sure there wouldn't have been a bunch of people going "Oh see? I knew it! All you people are the same, you just want Kaiden to wear a bear skin and oil himself down dont you you sexist!"

I edited my previous post a little too late it seems.

Ashley is not even a real person. It's not like she's going to read this thread and decide to change her hair. We could say for the sake of argument that her designers might, in which case by all means object to any such changes, but I take offense at being labelled (directly or by implication) a male chauvinist for discussing whether a fictional person who has been designed to look attractive actually is attractive.

But even the abstract represents something tangible.
Altering Ashley's looks at this stage, assuming it's something more dramatic than simply changing her haircut (although that is a shifty area as well, all things considered), would be a rather shameless thing to do. Because it projects the sense that, somehow, she wasn't "enough" in her original incarnation.

I already clarified that it was nothing more than an ironic quip, since you made it a "feminist issue" for no apparent reason. I haven't referred to anyone as male chauvinist.

but still, unless you really really like her personality, her looks are definitely not gonna entice me to keep her over Liara, Tali or especially Mirandas "genetically enhanced" ... features. ;)

Yes, because we all know how hot Tali is...oh hang on we've never seen her without a fully enclosed helmet.

IMO Ashley is the most physically attractive squadmate in ME1 or 2. Hair up isn't just practical, it can draw attention to well definec neck, cheeks and shoulders.

..... so I am the only one who finds them all attractive???....damn dont know if there is something wrong with me.

AShley reminds me of Morrigan's... hair pulled up nice neck view.. feisty strong punch u in the face attitude but bold....very bold. her lips though... duno what is about em :P

Liara.......at least ME1... geeky love it ALthough I take Shiala fmro ME1 over her... she was beautiful purple skin in ME1... erm well liara is cute... leave it at that.

Tali..... you dont need to see her face.... her physical features are very nice... and in ME2 she has great hips. Plus a shotgun, plus mystery, plus purple... like the color, plus nerdy.

Miranda, obvious reasons of course. One of my favorites though is at the begining when you ask her about herself and she just pulls her fist up, and says " I can crush a mech with my biotics or shoot its heat of at a hundred yards take your pick".... I was heart struck then....

They are all charming in their own way... at least IMHO

I think to be honest its all personal taste some people like the rugged kind of look (e.g. Ashley) some like the model kind of looks (my personal favourite miranda) some like the mystery (Tali) some like the cuteness (Liara) and some just like the madness (jack).

I think its good to have a diversify range of characters to choose from i am sure people would not want a choice of Jack or Jack I know I wouldn't nor would many people want to have only the choice of Ashley.

but i do think she seems to taken a step backwards in looks in ME2 she looked better in ME1 oddly but thats saying we have no idea how she will look like in ME3 never know she could even try to sex herself up to try to get shepherd back you never know (doubt it though she did say 'this is who I am and you better like her')

Dude now you totally lost me, why are you talking about what Ashley said about not wearing slu*ty clothes? I tried to tell you before, I was talking about her face and how she has masculine features...

And no, before you were complaining that the point of the discussion was whether or not we found Ashley attractive. Then when I say that is the point of the thread, and that it's nothing objectable or against women's rights, somehow it's now about me not allowing you to disagree with me? Disagree with me on what?...Im confused. :?

Honestly, only thing I would change, is to have Miranda get jaw reconstruction... have her like the Miranda in the lithos posters... now THAT miranda has a nice jaw...the miranda in the game is a woman body with silverster stalone jaw line or somethin :P

In other news, Yvonne looks hotter in real life than she does in game. Something to do with how the digitising of faces works perhaps.

The way we view a persons facial characteristics are based on the miniscule differences said face has between the left and right halves, which comes down to defining the face millimetre by millimetre. These imbalances tend to get smoothed over, as they average out the differences between left and right.

To truly recreate a face, the resolution would have to be so fine so to require a seperate dvd just for facial models.
